Chapter 8 Brave Heart
Chapter 8 Brave Heart
boom!boom!
Gunshots echoed through the woods.
Yu Jing believed he had seized the opportunity and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
Smoke billowed as two silver streaks shot out.
He didn't expect to kill the monster with two shots, he only hoped that one silver bullet would hit and make it back down.
However, while the idea was wonderful, the reality was quite cruel.
Although Yu Jing had watched many gunfight movies, he was not born in a country where guns were used as stationery in his previous life, so his accuracy when he actually fired a gun was truly appalling.
The first shot only hit the branch beneath the monster's feet, knocking down many branches and leaves.
The second shot, affected by the recoil, went completely astray.
Such a clumsy marksmanship sent a chill down Yu Jing's spine. He thought the monster would rush over and tear him to pieces, so he gripped his tactical straight knife and prepared to fight to the death.
Unexpectedly, the monster seemed to be frightened, letting out a mournful roar before retreating into the distance.
Were they frightened by the gunshots?
Without time to think, Yu Jing decisively seized the opportunity and moved closer to the alien space node.
However, during the run, he noticed that although the detector's pointer fluctuated briefly, it always remained within the high-risk range.
This undoubtedly means that a monster has been lurking nearby!
The guy wasn't scared off by the gunshot; rather, he sensed the danger of the silver bullet and chose to follow from the shadows, waiting for an opportunity to attack.
The problem is that the detector can only warn Yu Jing that there are monsters nearby, but it cannot pinpoint their exact location.
In other words, a monster attack could come at any time.
Faced with this situation, Yu Jing had no choice but to concentrate on observing the surroundings while constantly checking the detector.
We are currently only a short distance away from the alien space node.
Looking up, you can see the outlines of buildings nestled among the woods ahead.
That's most likely the location of the alien space node.
The monster was unaware that Yu Jing possessed a means to directly escape the alien realm, so all Yu Jing had to do now was deal with it.
Like those colorful caterpillars.
Even if you have to pretend, you have to pretend to be very powerful so that the monsters will be wary and won't dare to attack you recklessly!
Having figured this out, Yu Jing adjusted his pace once again.
Before the monster attacks, take a quick breath and try to recover some strength.
Swish~
Suddenly, I heard the sound of rustling leaves behind me.
Yu Jing, who was prepared, turned around and pulled the trigger almost reflexively.
That last attempt made him stop having unrealistic hopes about his marksmanship.
Since the chances of hitting the monster from a distance are slim, let's change our strategy and use the silver bullets as a deterrent. Regardless of whether we can hit them or not, let's fire the bullets to make a sound.
puff!
The dull thud of the bullet hitting flesh was exceptionally clear, and then the monster was seen falling from the branches high in the trees.
Could it be that he was shot in the dark?
Yu Jing looked on with surprise and stared intently at the falling monster.
The next second, my head felt like it was being electrocuted.
That was clearly the fish-monster corpse I had seen on the cross not long ago.
The corpse couldn't have jumped up the tree on its own, so there's only one possibility left... it was bait!
Almost at the same moment the fish monster's corpse hit the ground, a dark figure shot out from the bushes on the left and rushed straight at Yu Jing.
Although they had sensed it beforehand, it was too late to run.
In desperation, Yu Jing disregarded everything and raised his revolver, gritting his teeth and striking a pose as if he were going to die with the monster.
Especially at such a critical juncture of life and death, one must not show weakness.
Come on, as long as he has a breath left, he'll shove the gun barrel straight into the monster's mouth and pull the trigger!
Surprisingly, the monster facing the gun seemed to recall something bad. Its attacking motion stopped halfway, and it then bent down and shook its head to avoid the gun. It swung its front paws and struck Yu Jing in the chest, sending him flying.
After landing and rolling a few times, Yu Jing grimaced as he got up, raising his gun and trying to aim again.
The monster had vanished from sight.
It's hidden again!
Having narrowly escaped death, Yu Jing was no longer as tense as before. He looked down at the three bloody marks on his chest. Although his whole body was burning with pain, he had a slightly crazy smile on his face and spat a mouthful of blood on the ground.
So you can be afraid too...
In close combat, he got a clear look at the monster's appearance; it looked somewhat like a werewolf.
But this is not important.
The key lies in the gunshot wounds on the werewolf's chest and neck!
Even a brief glimpse leaves a deep impression.
Both gunshot wounds were probably caused by silver bullets.
The holy effect is extremely damaging to monsters covered in negative energy, causing large areas of hair loss and charring from the wounds, which are particularly conspicuous.
Yu Jing finally understood why this monster could chase after them from a great distance, and why it reacted so "cowardly" when it heard the gunshot.
The previous guess was correct.
The deceased in the tavern clinic was attacked by werewolves in this area before his death, and there must have been a fierce battle between them.
The result was clearly a lose-lose situation for both sides.
The former's wound became infected, ultimately leading to his death and forcing him to commit suicide.
The latter was also hit by two silver bullets, and the wounds have not yet healed and are even continuing to worsen.
Without a doubt, the monster hated the person who had severely injured it.
Unfortunately, Yu Jing was wearing the deceased's belt and had recently had "intimate" contact with the deceased, so he inevitably picked up the scent.
Fortunately, he got a revolver and silver bullets.
Even though his marksmanship wasn't great, the monster still mistook him for the dead man in the tavern, and reacted strongly to the sound of gunfire, fearing he would be hit again.
I glanced at the detector pointer on the Torchwatch.
As expected, they remain in the danger zone, proving that the monster is still lurking nearby.
That guy was severely injured by the silver bullet and dared not confront it head-on, but he wanted revenge, so he chose guerrilla tactics.
The successful sneak attack just now has made it even more patient, probably thinking that if it can do it a few more times, Yu Jing will definitely be worn down.
If the Torch watch weren't available, its choice would certainly be correct.
Yu Jing was indeed no match for a werewolf in this dark and dense forest; if it dragged on, the wound on his chest alone could be fatal.
But what can you do when he has the Torch Watch?
The determination to perish together with Yu Jing earned him this precious chance to escape!
While the werewolf was still waiting for an opportunity to launch another attack, Yu Jing endured the pain and sped towards the finish line.
He soon saw the building he had spotted earlier on his journey.
It was an abandoned tower, half of its outer wall collapsed, and it was in a dilapidated state.
By the moonlight, you could see through the gap that some miscellaneous items that hadn't been moved away were piled up inside.
The watch map confirms that the tower is the location of the alien space node that leads back to reality.
Yu Jing staggered forward, feeling a chill run down his spine as the murderous gaze behind him filled him with unease.
The werewolves are probably about to launch another attack.
Faster, faster...
Just as Yu Jing was about to step into the tower, he suddenly caught sight of a tattered scarecrow lying against the tower wall.
Their steps suddenly came to a halt.
He squinted his eyes and examined it closely.
