Chapter 30 Crystal of Resentment
Chapter 30 Crystal of Resentment
He ignored the Black Hand's urging.
Yu Jing squatted down in front of the chained corpse and examined it closely.
His experiences along the way were enough to prove that this alien land had long been occupied by undead and alien insects. He originally thought it was the result of the alien environment, but the corpse in front of him was telling another possibility.
Even though the flesh and blood had long since dried up, it was still possible to see that the skeleton of this corpse was extremely large, and it was highly likely that he was a strong man no less than Yao Feng in life.
His limbs were bound by iron chains, his facial features were sewn together with rusty wire, his body was covered with various scars, and his chest and face were carved with a large number of twisted runes in an extremely vicious manner.
Upon closer inspection, one can see that some of the runes are highly similar to those on the fog door leading to this room.
More importantly, these runes were carved into the flesh with a knife, rather than drawn as Yu Jing initially thought.
This suggests that the person must have endured extremely cruel torture and some kind of evil ritual during their lifetime.
Although those spiders have sharp claws, they cannot perform such delicate "flesh carving" work.
In other words, the castle's current state is most likely due to human intervention. Considering that each time you pass through a fog gate in this alien world, a closed space appears, Yu Jing vaguely feels that there are probably more secrets hidden beneath.
It is important to know that each alien realm is a real, existing otherworld. The original purpose of the Explorers' Headquarters was to explore these alien realms and uncover their secrets. The alien realm they are currently in seems to be a "level-based game," but in reality, it is full of eeriness.
The mission objective designated by the Explorers Headquarters does not mean that it is the final boss of this ancient castle!
"Tsk, what are we waiting for? Let's go!"
The gradual loss of sensation in his left arm made Black Hand increasingly anxious, and he kept urging him on.
He doesn't ask for anything else now, as long as he can save his life. At worst, he can return to the real world and have his body modified with surgery.
Yu Jing decided to keep his doubts to himself for the time being, knowing that now was not the time to dwell on these details. He could ask Yao Feng for confirmation after completing the assessment and returning to the border area.
But just as he got up to leave, he caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye that the corpse's eyelids, which were sewn shut with wire, were suddenly turning.
"It's alive!"
Yu Jing paused for a moment, then immediately raised his knife and returned to a crouching position to guard against the corpse suddenly rising up.
"What nonsense are you talking about? This guy's practically a dried-up corpse, how could he possibly live... Don't waste your time!"
Black Hand frowned and questioned, if Yu Jing's performance hadn't been so impressive, he would have already started cursing.
The green ghost and the mercenary exchanged a glance, then took a few steps closer and bent down to examine the scene.
At a time like this, they don't think Yu Jing would deliberately find something to amuse himself.
Yu Jing knew that Black Hand was being extreme because he wanted to survive, so he didn't pay any attention. He quickly glanced at the Torch Watch; the monster detector's pointer hadn't moved, but he still trusted his eyes.
In the past, Yu Jing might have suspected that she was seeing things because she was nervous.
But now his eyesight is far beyond that of ordinary people, and at such a close distance, there's no way he could have made a mistake!
To prove to them that he wasn't talking nonsense, Yu Jing walked straight up to the corpse, stared at it for a few seconds, then raised his machete and, under the watchful eyes of the other three, used the tip of the knife to pry open its eyelids.
The pale, shriveled eyelids, no longer restrained, quickly slipped down, revealing lifeless, grayish-white pupils underneath.
"Whatever you want to tell me, say it now!"
Yu Jing stared intently into the corpse's eyes and spoke directly.
Having seen too many corpses in the mortal world, the Black Hand knew very well that eyes of this color meant that their owner had long been steeped in death, with no possibility of being alive. In his opinion, Yu Jing's speaking to it was somewhat like being possessed.
Wait, what's that?
Almost the instant Yu Jing finished speaking, a blood-red glint suddenly appeared in his lifeless pupils.
Resentment, anger, pain...
With just one glance, Yu Jing sensed a massive amount of negative emotions that sent chills down his spine.
However, he did not back away because he knew very well that this was not directed at him.
Bloodshot eyes weren't focused on Yu Jing; from the moment they opened their eyes, they were staring intently at the darkness above.
Before Yu Jing could react, a large cloud of blood mist suddenly seeped from the corpse's eye sockets.
It wasn't real blood, but some kind of extremely concentrated negative energy, shooting straight to the ceiling.
The four members of the team all looked up at the sky simultaneously.
Initially, due to the suppression of light by the foreign environment, all they could see was an increasingly deep darkness.
Just a few seconds later, Yu Jing was surprised to find that in the depths of darkness, a crimson light suddenly burst forth, instantly transforming into a fiery inferno that ignited the ceiling of the room, turning it into a sea of fire and completely exposing the situation inside to the group.
That wasn't the ceiling of the room at all; it was a giant spiderweb cage!
The ceiling of the entire room was covered by a web woven by alien spider monsters.
Countless tiny spiders were scurrying about inside the flames due to the intense heat.
As much of the spider silk was burned, human skeletons and iron cages holding mummified corpses were finally revealed deeper inside, far more than what Yu Jing had seen before.
These skeletons seem to have already been transformed into monsters, but they are too tightly bound by spider silk to get down. Now they are in a sea of fire, and as if they sense that they are about to be destroyed by the crimson sea of fire, they struggle frantically to try to escape.
In contrast, the numerous dried corpses bound by chains in the iron cage burned silently within this sea of fire ignited by hatred, carrying a sense of liberation.
Spider silk burns extremely quickly, and the skeleton was covered in spider silk. In no time, it turned into ashes under the high temperature, falling to the floor of the room along with sparks. Then, the iron cages began to sway precariously.
"Get out of here immediately!"
Sensing danger, the blue demon quickly warned him and rushed to the other side of the room.
After they ran a few steps, they realized that Yu Jing was still standing in the same spot, looking up as if searching for something.
"Hey! Ash, get out of there!"
The mercenary shouted a warning, but Yu Jing remained unmoved, instead reaching out to a ball of flame that was rapidly falling towards him.
The scorching flames completely burned out a second before touching his palm, leaving only an irregular, dark purple crystal that still exuded a chilling aura despite being scorched by the fire.
Its surface, illuminated by the light, presents a constantly shifting, ephemeral appearance.
While the rest of the team were far away and unable to see what was happening, Yu Jing opened the item page that displayed a red exclamation mark and checked its information:
