Chapter 79 Midnight Lord
Chapter 79 Midnight Lord
The flagship of the thousand-year-old Fateh.
The area was under heavy security and the atmosphere was solemn.
The Scarab Guard of Magnus and the Black Armor Guard of Conrad Coates stood in two rows of ten, silently at the entrance to the observation deck.
Li Wei changed into a think tank robe, slowly stepped forward, and walked through the wide-open alloy door under the cold gaze of two rows of guards dressed in Terminator armor.
Looking up, against a backdrop of a dazzling starry sky, the two Primarchs stood before a huge, transparent porthole.
Crimson Magnus stood under the lamplight, clad in a long golden robe, while not far away, his brother, the Primarch of the Midnight Lord, was wrapped in a black hooded robe.
This infamous midnight ghost truly lived up to his chilling title, his entire being shrouded in shadows where no light could reach, like a ghost without a physical form.
At this moment, the two Primarchs, with their contrasting personalities, are arguing fiercely, looking like they might turn on each other at any moment.
However, through the isolation array created by Magnus's Sosmes Mark, Li Wei could not see the lip movements of the two, nor could any sound be heard.
Before Li Wei entered, there was only deathly silence and the low hum of the ship's engines. But as soon as he stepped into the entrance of the observation deck, he heard Magnus's roar, so loud that it hurt his eardrums.
"My brother, Conrad Coz, what are you saying? You're saying that Levi, the chief think tank of the Thousand Sons, my closest friend, is actually the Empire's greatest enemy! What are you doing...?"
Before Magnus could finish speaking, he was startled to see a dark figure in the shadows beside him suddenly leap up like a black lightning bolt, its target aimed directly at Levi's head.
hum!
A thick, purple psionic shield suddenly unfolded, firmly protecting Li Wei's entire body.
Then came the muffled thud as the shield was struck by tremendous force. Conrad Coates, having failed in his attack, immediately withdrew into the shadows and vanished without a trace, as if the deadly attack had never happened.
Levi, who had been feeling something was amiss, was already on guard and managed to deploy his shield just a second before Conrad Coz, who was faster than lightning, could strike.
Before he arrived, he had already sensed that something was wrong, because Ahriman, the chief mage of the Black Crow School, who was best at predicting the future, was not there.
He also remembered Magnus saying that Conrad Coz had come specifically to discuss prophecy, and that Levi remembered Ahriman, the chief mage of the Black Raven School, was himself on the flagship of the Thousand Sons, the Fortep.
But he had already traveled from Kel to the Futep aboard the Stormhawk, so Ahriman should have been here too, either to participate in the discussion or as a witness.
Therefore, from the moment he stepped into the flagship, Levi's nerves were already on edge, preventing any accidents. In particular, his Primarch Magnus's furious remarks had set off alarm bells, and he reacted just before Conrad Coz made his move, deploying a psionic shield in advance and barely saving his life.
"That was close."
Still shaken, Levi took a half step back, a purple psionic fireball gathering in his hand as he scanned the surrounding dark corners, wary of Conrad Coates' sudden attack, ready to take Levi's life in an instant like a midnight ghost.
After waiting for a long time, even Magnus released his psionic energy to search the surroundings, but found no trace of the Midnight Lord.
With a furrowed brow, Li Wei looked somewhat solemn. He felt that his current psychic combat power had indeed reached the pinnacle of mortal strength.
However, when facing the imperial offspring and the genetic prototypes of Astartes, who were known for their speed and strength, he was at a disadvantage at every turn, and could easily perish if he was not careful.
"It seems I need to find a way to improve my physical strength; I can't always rely too much on psionic energy."
Li Wei, still vigilantly patrolling the darkness, thought to himself.
Faced with Conrad Coz's murderous intent, in the few seconds it took to be attacked, Levi's brain raced under the stimulus of death, and he made a preliminary guess: he had always been the biggest variable in the Warhammer universe.
Because Li Wei is a transmigrator, a variable not belonging to this universe, the moment he arrived in this world, he brought unpredictable variables to the Warhammer universe, which was already destined to go dark.
Conrad Coates's desire to kill him was likely due to his uncontrolled prophetic abilities, which allowed him to see the future he had altered. However, his attempts to change the future had not always been aimed at a positive direction.
Was it that his own changes were not good for Conrad Coates, who could only see a dark future, or that his own intervention triggered a butterfly effect, causing even worse results?
I spent ages thinking about it in my head, but only a few seconds had passed in reality.
Conrad Coates was still hiding in the darkness. Even Magnus and Levi, two psionic masters, could not pinpoint his location. Levi even suspected that Conrad Coates had already left and was hiding in the countless intricate pipes and cabins of the Thousand Sons' flagship, the Queen of Glory, the Fortep.
However, with the still heavy atmosphere and the oppressive aura of the Primarch permeating the air, Li Wei did not lower his guard.
At that moment, Li Wei also had an idea: a thorough search. He turned to Magnus and said in a deep voice:
"My Lord Archmage, remove the sound-blocking array of the Sosmes Mark and immediately order the warriors of the Thousand Sons to come here and conduct a thorough search."
Li Wei's words were extremely calm, yet filled with an undeniable ruthlessness. He told the Thousand Sons warriors that if they were to search for Conrad Coz, the Primarch of the Midnight Lord, who was hiding in the shadows, the Thousand Sons warriors would almost certainly die.
But Li Wei had long been tempered by the cruelty of the Warhammer universe and lost some of his naivety; this was the only safest solution he could come up with.
The sightseeing deck was so large that the effectiveness of psionic detection was greatly reduced, allowing only close-up observation.
Conrad Coates is highly likely to launch a fatal attack while waiting for Levi to personally search for him in the dark corner, killing Levi instantly.
"...Hmm." Magnus listened to Levina's cold suggestion, remained silent for a moment, and could only nod in agreement.
As the Primarch of the Legion, although he loves his offspring dearly, necessary sacrifices are inevitable.
Otherwise, the Great Crusade, filled with bloodshed and sacrifice, should not be carried out. Magnus, the Primarch of the Thousand Sons and a psionic scholar, is indeed full of care and elegance.
But he was, after all, the son of an emperor, and by nature, warlike. Magnus would not object to the sacrifice of his son as long as it was worthwhile.
Just as Magnus was about to remove the Sosmes Mark, the protective shield that blocked internal sounds and external observation, Conrad Coates, unable to contain himself, launched an attack on Magnus.
