The enraged dog demon howled to the sky.
With a piercing roar, his body began to violently transform, changing from the tall, bear-goblin-like figure into a ferocious-looking blue-furred giant wolf.
The next second, the giant wolf vanished without a trace.
This is Antichrist's innate magical ability, "Invisibility Orb." This ability allows him and allies within a ten-foot radius to become invisible.
Immediately afterwards, he cast another innate magical ability, "Anywhere Door".
An invisible blue giant wolf traversed layers of spatial barriers and silently appeared on the outer hull of the golden dragon gunboat. It gripped the hull tightly with its claws, climbing upwards.
Above the giant wolf's head was a row of small, openable square windows, from which the barrels of cannons protruded. With a deafening roar as the cannonballs were fired, thick white smoke billowed from the muzzles, and the cannon barrels then retracted.
The invisible giant wolf seized the opportunity to climb up two steps and squeezed into the gap next to the cannon barrel.
This is the lower deck of the gunboat, where twenty cannons are neatly arranged behind the gun ports. Beside each cannon, two sailors are loading shells.
A sergeant walked along the ship's cabin with his hands behind his back, turning the majestic golden dragon's head as he went, meticulously supervising the sailors as they performed their duties.
In the army of the Golden Dragon City-State, ordinary soldiers are human, while officers are dragons of the Golden Dragon race. But the atmosphere among them is not so tense.
"Sir," a soldier shouted as the Dragon Sergeant passed by, "what exactly are we fighting for, and whose ships are those?"
"Just now, the Broken Tooth was subjected to a shameful aerial attack by the enemy."
The dragon sergeant said in a deep voice, "The bronze dragons hired a lot of harpies. After harassing us, they flew off in the direction we were bombarding."
"Sir, is Broken Tooth alright?"
"The Broken Tooth is safe and sound. Nothing can shake the scales of the great golden dragon."
Sergeant Long said sternly, "But obviously, our plan has been discovered by the enemy. They have ambushed us here with more than twenty small sampans."
He chuckled, "I'd rather not use the term 'naval fleet' to describe them. According to the observers above, those pathetic bronze dragons don't even have magical cannons; they're like a bunch of pirates, and they actually dared to come and fight us hand-to-hand. Just now, our two salvos sank at least seven of their wrecked ships!"
The sailors burst into laughter.
The dragon-type sergeant raised his voice: "Then let's make another effort and try to get them all into the sea!"
"As you command, sir!"
"Yes, sir!"
The sailors responded noisily, filling the hold with a cheerful atmosphere.
Suddenly, the heads of two sailors next to a cannon vanished into thin air, leaving only their bodies gushing blood from their necks.
The moment the attack was launched, the "invisibility sphere" failed, and the terrifying blue giant wolf revealed its enormous size before everyone's eyes. Antirk, now a ferocious wolf, surveyed his surroundings, greedily scanning the prey within the pod. His tongue darted out from his lips, almost licking his own wolf eyes, which were reddened by the stench of blood.
All the sailors were stunned and stopped what they were doing at the same time.
The giant wolf displayed a very human-like expression, which is called a sneer.
“So it’s a golden dragon’s offspring,” Antik said. “A dragon that deserves to be eaten alive.”
Saliva dripped incessantly from the wolf's kiss.
The radiance of magic continually enveloped itself.
Those are also the innate magical abilities of the Hound Demon: "Berserk" which increases strength and physique; "Misdirection" which blocks prophecy spells; and "Flash" which allows the Hound Demon's body to blink back and forth between the material plane and the ethereal plane, thereby avoiding physical attacks.
In that instant, the dragon-blooded officer realized what was happening, roared, drew his sword, and charged toward the giant wolf.
A glint flashed in Antirk's red eyes, and an invisible magical energy, filled with utter despair and sorrow, suddenly extended from in front of it.
This is the Dog Demon's spell-like ability, "Despair and Helplessness".
The dragon officer had barely reached the giant wolf when he was overwhelmed by this emotion.
"Damn monster!"
He roared in an attempt to fight back, but his shout turned into a sob. The sergeant, leaning on his longsword, knelt dejectedly before Antik, watching in terror and despair as the gaping maw drew ever closer, completely losing the will and courage to fight the canine demon.
Antik bit off half of the sergeant's head.
The giant wolf chewed back and forth, and the golden dragon's long whiskers dangled from between its teeth, slipping out of its mouth. The blood and brain matter of the dragon flowed down the whiskers.
All the sailors were terrified and turned to run away.
However, the giant wolf's enormous figure vanished from the spot once again.
Large canine demons like Antirk can cast "Invisibility Orb" an unlimited number of times.
Amidst the splattering blood, bloodthirsty laughter echoed through the lower deck.
Meanwhile, at the docks in Beate City.
When the Golden Dragon sergeant removed his disguise and led his warriors out of the warehouse, they were surprised to find that there was no one else there but themselves; the Casta lizardmen, whom they had imagined they would have to fight and defeat, had already withdrawn.
The soldiers of Jinlong looked at each other and lowered their swords.
A golden dragon asked, "What's going on?"
“I don’t know,” the other said.
Under the dazzling sunlight, looking at the deserted dock, he was a little dazed. "But it seems... we won?"
"Won?"
The dragon that had asked the question earlier said, "But where are our warships?"
“I don’t know,” another said, “but according to our orders, after capturing the dock, we should hold this position until the fleet arrives and the navy lands. So I suggest that we start facing Beate City and build positions on the spot.”
"Let's do it then."
One of them, looking listless, said, "What kind of mess is this? I thought... Wait, did you hear that?"
The next dragon listened intently.
They heard shouts and sounds of fighting coming from the city center, and the sounds were getting closer. It seemed that two fighting forces were closing in on them.
"Build a defensive line as soon as possible!"
The second dragon said sternly, taking out a large number of sacrificial items and the golden dragon's divine emblem. He was a golden dragon priest, "This city belongs to the supreme golden dragon. We must not allow the bronze dragon's lackeys to succeed in their counterattack!"
Author's note: I've added two chapters, but I still owe some. I'll continue to add more tomorrow. That's all for now.
Chapter 176 Who am I, where am I, what am I doing?
When the dwarf Sonnetto led his Hooded Party through a bloody path from the town center to the docks, and saw the Golden Dragon Navy waiting in full battle array ahead, his heart shattered.
The mansion purchased by the dwarf Sonnetto was the result of his careful selection. The town's central square is right outside the gate, and the town hall is opposite the central square, which is where the target, the bear goblin Maui, usually works.
He had planned countless times to start from his mansion and make a rapid run to the city hall, taking less than three minutes.
The Hooded Gang members he ordered to infiltrate the Beiat Territory and gather at the mansion were all mercenaries from the northern coastal region. Each of them was a highly skilled warrior, capable of taking on ten men at once.
With his shadow magic added to the mix, Sonnetto felt confident that the operation was a sure thing.
Just as the dwarf and his accomplices rushed out of the mansion, they ran right into the Casta lizardmen squad that had just been transferred back to patrol the town center.
The dark, hooded figures met the sand-yellow Casta lizardmen, and both were taken aback.
The air seemed to freeze.
The next second, both sides drew their weapons simultaneously and roared as they clashed.
Sonnetto was both shocked and furious, thinking that his plan had been exposed and that these Casta lizardmen had come to his door to capture him; while the Casta lizardmen had received orders from their master in advance that if they saw any group of more than three people gathered together in the street and carrying weapons, they should not ask any questions but simply kill them all.
In a single exchange, more than a dozen of the Casta lizardmen fell.
The older generation of Casta lizardman pirates were all wiped out by Ivy Beate. These Casta lizardmen were mostly newly grown recruits, inexperienced rookies, and far less capable than their dwarf allies.
The Casta lizardmen died one after another at the hands of the dwarf hooded accomplices.
The hooded men fought their way through the narrow gates of the mansion, stormed into the central square, and stormed toward the city hall as planned.
However, once they entered the open area of the square, they were firmly blocked by a large number of Casta lizardmen and could hardly make any progress.
Although the young Casta lizardmen lacked experience, their innate bravery and numerical superiority more than made up for their disadvantages. They charged forward wave after wave, roaring as they surged forward.
Ivy Beate, now transformed into "Iren-Otukan," saw through the eyes of the harpy in the sky that two colors, gray-black and sand-yellow, were intertwined and locked in fierce battle in the square.
The hooded men dashed left and right, but could never get close to the city hall.
Among the hooded figures, the dwarf, covered in the blood of the Casta lizardmen, occasionally cast illusion spells to mislead or intimidate his enemies.
However, what he couldn't see was that the hooded men were gradually becoming outnumbered and were beginning to be suppressed by the Casta lizardmen.
Although the hooded mercenaries were all highly skilled mercenaries with exceptional individual combat abilities, they came from various regions and lacked coordination. Their weapons were also a mixed bag. The more valiant the mercenary, the more they preferred heavy weapons with wide, sweeping strikes, such as greatswords and cleavers, thus their positioning was much more spaced out than that of the Casta lizardmen.
This gave the Casta lizardmen a gap in their tactics.
Although the Casta lizardmen were young, they had grown up among their kind, who were steeped in military culture. Although they were initially thrown off balance by the hood, they quickly realized the enemy's weakness after calming down.
They raised their shields high and thrust them between the hooded figures, dividing and surrounding them. From the sky, the square was filled with scenes of three to five sand-yellow lizardmen besieging a black-hooded figure.
In the center of the square, a black-hooded warrior, the most valiant in battle, wielded a greatsword and cleaved the Casta lizardman who was blocking his way, along with his shield, flying with a single strike.
But before he could finish off the enemy, three other Casta lizardmen attacked from both flanks.
Under the cover of three shields, three Birth Blades were simultaneously extended towards him.
The black hood blocked one of the blades, and the man dodged another by tilting his head, but he couldn't avoid the last one no matter what: the blade tip pierced through the gap in the leather armor at the hood's waist, slicing open his soft belly.
The hooded man howled and kicked away the Casta lizardman who had stabbed him, but the wound that had ripped his guts out had taken its toll, and he could only kneel on one knee, leaning on his greatsword.
The Casta lizardmen he had slashed and kicked away were not seriously injured because of their shields. The two men quickly got up and, together with their companion, surrounded the wounded Black Hood, swarming him and hacking him down with their blades, severing his head.
The dwarf noticed that his own people were dwindling. All he could see were sand-yellow figures wandering around.
"retreat!"
He yelled, "To the docks! Let's meet up with our men first!"
The voice, imbued with the "Wind Spell," reached everyone's ears. Except for the two hooded figures trapped within the encirclement, everyone else rushed towards the dock upon hearing the sound.
The dwarf Sonnetto glared hatefully at the city hall, which was so close yet so far away, but suddenly paused.
He saw a bronze dragon paladin swaggering into the city hall entrance; it was none other than the idiotic new governor who had been patrolling the town that day, "Iren-Otukan" from the city of Fiery Earth.
The dwarf grinned, drew his magic staff, and fired a powerful supermagic "Fireball" at Iren-Otukan.
His magic staff was a "Lesser Greater Hypermagic Staff." When a dwarf casts spells below level three, this staff grants the spell its theoretical maximum damage. This "Fireball," enhanced with both Greater and Hypermagic powers, was among the most destructive spells available, enough to reduce the Bronze Dragon Paladin Governor and the town hall behind him to ashes.
—Turn them all into a sea of fire, you bastards!
The dwarf cursed inwardly, watching with a mixture of malice and glee as the bright red ball, brimming with magical power, flew straight toward the city hall entrance.
He wanted to watch it explode, engulfing everything in flames and death—huh?
The dwarf stared in disbelief as the unexploded, bright red ball struck "Iren-Otukan" squarely in the chest.
However, there was no explosion or flame.
Nothing at all.
The double super magic's "Fireball" spell vanished silently, leaving only a faint black mark and a wisp of smoke on the damned bronze dragon paladin's breastplate.
He also saw Ilhão Otukan tilt his head and smile at him.
That smile infuriated the dwarf.
"Anti-magic field!" the dwarf Sonnetto screamed in fury. "Damn it, how can a paladin have an anti-magic field?!"
"It's time to go, boss."
A hooded figure beside him spoke urgently, brandishing a spear to shield the dwarf Sonnetto from two approaching Casta lizardmen.
The dwarf did not continue fighting.
No arcane spellcaster would recklessly charge at a paladin with an "anti-magic field." He hurriedly followed the multitude of hooded figures toward the docks, silently cursing his bad luck and feeling so frustrated he felt like vomiting blood.
The dwarf swore in his heart: once Antik has landed, he will launch a counterattack: he will kill that damned paladin and that damned Casta lizardman!
He knew exactly what Antik was and what Antik's strength was.
However, when the dwarf Sonnetto, along with his hooded companions, was chased to the dock by the Casta lizardmen, he was not met by the landing pirate Antik, but by golden dragon sailors wielding swords and shields, and a barrage of divine magic.
At this moment, the dwarf's heart was filled with questions.
Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?
Chapter 177 Silver Sword and Golden Catfish
When their artillery suddenly stopped firing, the boatswain, Gold Catfish, knew something was wrong below deck.
"Golden Catfish" is the nickname of this golden dragon species.
