Chapter 313 The Pure and Kind-hearted Obito
Chapter 313 The Pure and Kind-hearted Obito
The sun shines brightly in Konoha Village.
Obito Uchiha squatted on a tree branch, a blade of grass dangling from his mouth, watching the people coming and going on the street with utter boredom.
"Obito, what are you doing?"
Yuan Yelin stood under the tree, hands on her hips, looking up at him.
Obito moved the grass stalk from the left corner of his mouth to the right, saying, "I'm observing the enemy's situation."
"Enemy activity? In the village?"
"Yes, that's a cunning cat," Obito said seriously.
Lin smiled helplessly. Just then, an old woman's voice came from afar: "Oh dear, my vegetables—"
Otto jumped down from the tree and rushed over in three steps. He caught the old lady who was about to fall with one hand and caught the vegetable basket that rolled down with the other.
"Grandma, are you alright?"
"It's nothing, thank you so much, young man." The old lady looked at him with a smile. "Whose child are you?"
"I belong to the Uchiha clan!" Obito puffed out his chest. "My name is Uchiha Obito, the future Hokage!"
The old woman laughed heartily, but didn't take his words seriously. She took an apple out of her basket and handed it to him: "Work hard, young man."
Obito Uchiha accepted the apple without hesitation, took a bite, and then remembered his important task.
"Oh dear, my cat!"
After saying that, he hurriedly ran away.
Seeing him scrambling and crawling like that, Yuan Yelin didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Ten minutes later, Obito appeared in a small alley. A tabby cat was perched on a wall, looking down at him, its tail wagging slowly.
The two stared at each other, their expressions fierce.
The tabby cat licked its paws and scrutinized him with a smug look.
Obito touched his nose, then scrambled forward in three quick steps, and pounced—
Although the tabby cat was fat, it was agile and with a graceful leap, it immediately jumped to another wall.
That disdainful look as he turned around seemed to say, "Kid, you still need to practice."
Obito, unwilling to accept defeat, lunged again, only to have his face stomped on and fall to the ground.
A cat paw print was left on his face.
Yuan Yelin watched from the side and couldn't help but cover her mouth and laugh.
"Rin, you look so beautiful when you smile." Obito Uchiha, ignoring the mud on his body, got up and grinned foolishly.
Finally, they cornered the cat in a persimmon tree.
Obito Uchiha carefully climbed up again. He reached out and just touched the kitten's bell, seemingly about to catch the cat thief.
The kitten remained unmoved because the branch had broken.
"Ahhh..."
Obito yelled and fell into a pile of freshly washed bed sheets.
The owner of the bed sheet was a wealthy woman. She opened the window and saw an Uchiha character printed on her pristine white bed sheet, and screamed.
"Ah, I just washed the sheets!"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry—" Obito struggled out of the sheets, clasped his hands together, and apologized repeatedly, looking very pathetic.
Instead, the tabby cat meowed and jumped down from the branch on the other side, leaping into the lady's arms.
The lady recognized the cat and exclaimed in delight, "Mimi!"
The tabby cat rubbed against the noblewoman, as if it were pleading for Obito, after all, it had played the cat-and-mouse game with him for so long.
"Thank you for helping me find Mimi!" The lady's attitude changed completely. "You don't need to pay for the sheets."
Obito scratched his head and chuckled foolishly.
Just then, a boy dressed in a loose martial arts robe appeared smoothly in front of the two of them. He squinted and smiled, saying, "There's a new mission, Obito. Your teacher wants you to assemble."
"Hyuga Kagami already said that he is not my teacher!" Uchiha Obito was furious, but he still returned to the meeting point with the two of them.
The three walked side by side down the street. Obito precisely tossed the apple core into the roadside trash can and whistled.
"Lin, what do you think this mission will be like?"
"I don't know. But Kakashi came to find us specifically, so it must be an important mission."
"Could it be that we can finally go to the battlefield!" Obito's eyes lit up. "My eyes have been itching for battle!"
Lin said helplessly, "Going to the battlefield is no joke. You need to be serious."
"I'm very serious."
"Every time you say you're being serious, that's when you're being the least serious."
Obito stopped talking, but the corners of his mouth were still turned up.
Only Hyuga Kagami stood by, smiling with narrowed eyes. The battlefield was a cruel place, and the price of awakening the Sharingan was quite high.
Back at the mission rendezvous point, Kakashi Hatake was already waiting there. He was leaning against a pillar, his face still cold and expressionless, wearing a mask.
Obito Uchiha leaned closer: "We've arrived. What are we going to do this time? Is something important?"
Kakashi Hatake said, "Actually, I have serious doubts about whether you can carry out this mission."
"Tch." Obito rolled his eyes. "I'm going to be Hokage, what mission can't I complete?"
Kakashi ignored his reaction and took out a mission sheet from his pocket and handed it over.
"Rank B mission, frontline support. Destination: the border of the Land of Rain, the area of conflict with Iwagakure."
Obito took the mission sheet, read a couple of lines, and the smile on his face slowly faded.
"Finally..." he clenched his fist, "Finally, I can go to the battlefield!"
"Don't get too excited," Kakashi said calmly. "This mission isn't just for Team 7."
"Who else?"
"Root." Kakashi glanced at Obito's expression. "Lord Danzo sent a small team to accompany us."
Obito frowned slightly. Compared to the past, Root is now a semi-public organization, but its reputation is very bad.
Why go with them?
"Command," Kakashi Hatake replied curtly.
Hyuga Kagami squinted, a gentle smile on his face. He walked over to Obito and said, "Don't overthink it. Root isn't some kind of ferocious beast."
Obito looked at his perpetually squinting eyes: "Can you open your eyes and speak?"
"No way!" Hinata Kagami's smile remained unchanged. "After all, my white pupils are really not very attractive."
"Hmph!" Obito turned his head away, not taking it seriously.
"Alright!" Kakashi put away the mission sheet. "Let's go."
The four of them walked towards the village entrance.
On the way, Obito suddenly asked, "What do you think it's like on the battlefield?"
Kakashi didn't say anything.
Hyuga Kagami smiled but didn't say anything.
Yuan Yelin thought for a moment and said, "I heard from my senior that it's both noisy and quiet."
"What do you mean?"
"It's just that... it's very noisy when they fight, but very quiet when they're done."
Obito nodded as if he understood, but he didn't realize what those words meant.
