Chapter 19 The Sect Leader's Wife, Shi Xiaocui
Chapter 19 The Sect Leader's Wife, Shi Xiaocui
"You're joking, Mr. Chang!"
Cheng Zixue was so angry that he blew his beard and glared, while Feng Wanli remained calm and composed.
He pointed to Shi Zhongyu, who was still practicing his skills.
"Elder Cheng should know that my disciple has just entered the sect. Even when practicing, the cold air he exhales is only a small amount around the perimeter."
"Disciples with even a little skill around me can be ignored!"
As Feng Wanli spoke, he looked at the several senior disciples in the middle of the side hall.
"Will Shi Zhongyu's training affect you?"
The disciples quickly shook their heads.
"It won't affect anything."
Feng Wanli smiled slightly, then said to Cheng Zixue, "If my disciple affects them, even if Elder Cheng doesn't say anything, I will still drag him out!"
Cheng squinted his eyes as he studied on his own.
"But he influenced the few disciples who had just started their training!"
As he spoke, he looked at the people around Shi Zhongyu.
"Has Shi Zhongyu's practice affected you?"
These newly initiated disciples had long disliked Shi Zhongyu.
They nodded repeatedly.
"Yes, he is an elder who has influenced us."
"He shouldn't have been practicing his martial arts in the side hall!"
The group chatted amongst themselves, clearly wanting to throw Shi Zhongyu out.
Elder Cheng snorted and stared coldly at Feng Wanli.
"Did you hear that!"
"Your disciple certainly can't influence those disciples who have been practicing for a long time, but he has influenced the disciples who have just started practicing."
Feng Wanli remained silent for a moment, then said quietly, "Elder Cheng, the fact that my disciple can influence the new disciples shows that they need to practice more!"
"Some of them started learning earlier than my disciples, yet they are still affected by it even slightly, which shows they haven't been practicing enough!"
As Feng Wanli spoke, he looked at the disciples who had just entered the gate.
"How much of the sword principles that Elder Chengzhang explained can you understand?"
Upon hearing this, the disciples looked at each other, speechless.
Bai Wanjian stood up and coldly stared at the few new disciples.
"Your Senior Master Feng is asking you a question, why aren't you answering!"
"Do you all understand?"
When Hua Wanzi and the others saw Bai Wanjian stand up to help Feng Wanli, a strange look flashed in their eyes.
These disciples were reprimanded and questioned by Bai Wanjian.
In the end, they dared not remain silent.
"Most...I don't understand!"
"I... I could understand it at first."
Bai Wanjian nodded slightly, then slowly sat down.
Feng Wanli then looked at Elder Cheng.
"Elder, the sword principles we've discussed are initially superficial, but become more profound later on!"
"For these novice disciples, they are still practicing the first three forms. The sword principles we will discuss later are like listening to gibberish!"
"For them, it's better to focus on cultivating their inner strength even when they can't understand the teachings!"
Elder Chang narrowed his eyes, his gaze sweeping over Bai Wanjian, who was sitting obediently, a hint of annoyance flashing in his eyes, before finally looking at Feng Wanli.
"Feng Wanli, you are not yet the leader of our Snow Mountain Sect."
"It has been a long-standing rule of our Snow Mountain Sect to have our disciples come to the side hall to listen to the lectures given by the sect elders."
"Firstly, it allows them to reflect on what they've learned during the day's training; secondly, it lets them know the rules of our Snow Mountain Sect; and thirdly, it broadens their horizons in the martial world."
"Do you perhaps intend to change the rules of our Snow Mountain Sect?"
The label of "self-taught" was attached to Cheng, which startled Bai Wanjian and the others.
They looked at Feng Wanli with concern.
Feng Wanli chuckled softly.
"Uncle-Master Cheng, what you're saying is a bit much."
"This disciple has never considered changing the rules of the Snow Mountain Sect, nor does he have the ability to do so!"
"Furthermore, we're just discussing my disciple's training; how does that relate to the Snow Mountain Sect's rules?"
Cheng Zixue sneered.
"Isn't this because your disciple disrespected his elders and violated the rules of the Snow Mountain Sect!"
"And you, Feng Wanli, are even protecting your disciple. What are your true intentions?"
Feng Wanli's face turned cold.
"Uncle-Master Cheng, I cannot accept such a compliment!"
"Please be mindful of your words, Uncle Cheng, and refrain from slandering others!"
The two began arguing back and forth in the side hall.
The disciples sitting below all shrank their necks, not daring to look up.
The disciples of the Wan generation on either side also watched without saying a word.
Hua Wanzi noticed that the jade in the stone was very interesting.
Despite the commotion in the side hall, Shi Zhongyu remained seated cross-legged on the ground, practicing his martial arts, showing no sign of being disturbed.
She didn't believe that Shi Zhongyu couldn't hear her.
Clearly, this kid heard it but still chose to practice his skills.
She thought to herself that Senior Brother Feng and Elder Cheng were arguing so fiercely that their faces were red, as if it had nothing to do with this kid.
She thought for a moment and asked Bai Wanjian in a low voice.
"This kind of arguing isn't going to work, especially since it's happening in front of all the disciples."
Bai Wanjian nodded in agreement.
Originally, he disapproved of Cheng Zixue's self-study and wanted his senior to step up.
However, arguing in front of all the disciples would be beneath his dignity.
Bai Wanjian wanted to speak, but then he realized that his status made it impossible for him to stop the two of them.
So he whispered a few words in Hua Wanzi's ear.
Hua Wanzi's eyes lit up, and then she secretly slipped away.
Just as Feng Wanli and Elder Cheng were still arguing, a cold snort suddenly came from outside the door.
"One is an elder of the Snow Mountain Sect, and the other is the acting sect leader!"
"What kind of decorum is it for the two of them to argue about right and wrong in front of all the disciples?"
Feng Wanli and Cheng Zixue were startled and both looked towards the door.
A woman with a sharp face and piercing eyes stood at the door.
The woman stood at the door, watching the two of them coldly without moving.
Feng Wanli acted immediately.
He hurried over, cupped his hands in a respectful bow, and said, "Master's wife, what brings you here?"
As he spoke, he noticed Hua Wanzi, who was standing next to his teacher's wife, out of the corner of his eye.
Clearly, it was the junior sister who summoned the master's wife.
Shi Xiaocui looked at the respectful Feng Wanli and snorted.
"You were asked to handle sect affairs on behalf of your master, and this is how you handle them?"
"Or was it to make you talk back to your Uncle Cheng?"
"Do you even respect your elders?"
Feng Wanli immediately bowed his head.
"Master's wife is right, disciple knows his mistake!"
"Aren't you going to apologize to your Uncle-Master Cheng yet?"
Feng Wanli did not refute at all. Upon hearing this, he turned around and clasped his hands in a fist salute to Cheng Zixue.
"Uncle-Master Cheng, it was my fault just now."
Cheng Zixue breathed a sigh of relief; Feng Wanli's bowed head made his expression much better.
However, he did not put on airs in front of Shi Xiaocui.
"Never mind, I was also at fault."
The two men softened their tone, and the atmosphere in the side hall improved somewhat.
Shi Xiaocui nodded in satisfaction, then turned to look at Shi Zhongyu, who was still practicing his martial arts in the side hall.
Shi Xiaocui looked at Shi Zhongyu, who was still practicing his martial arts, and a hint of surprise flashed in her eyes.
This kid, doesn't he know what happened in the side hall?
Hua Wanzi was very perceptive and immediately stepped forward to call out to Shi Zhongyu.
Shi Xiaocui stopped Hua Wanzi.
She stared at Shi Zhongyu with great interest.
"I'll see how long this kid can keep up this training!"
