Chapter 3 Barbecue Meteor Bird
Chapter 3 Barbecue Meteor Bird
Three days after leaving the village.
"That's Oisaster."
As Shutark gazed into the distance, he saw the vague outline of a magnificent city in the center of the vast lake.
"It's still a long way off. Let the carriage give us a ride along the way."
Frillie, carrying the suitcase, said expressionlessly...
Lynn and his party soon boarded a carriage bound for Oisast. Along the way, Frilian took a nap on Philon's lap pillow, but sat up again because she could only see half the sky.
Half a day later, the carriage entered Oisast.
"Let's go register at the Magic Association first."
Frillie finally perked up and led the team to the Northern Branch of the Magic Association.
The Magic Association is a magnificent building constructed of white stone.
The receptionist was a young woman wearing glasses. After registering Lynn and Philon, Frillie almost couldn't register because she only had the "ancient top scholar" certificate. Fortunately, an old man recognized the antique, and Frillie was able to register successfully.
After registering, the four went to the library to look up information.
Two months later, the Level 1 Magician Exam began.
Upon entering the hall, one finds it bustling with people.
Lynn's gaze swept across the crowd, spotting many familiar faces, such as Rabinhee, Connecticut, and Yubel.
A middle-aged man in an association uniform, with a serious expression, walked onto the platform, surveyed the entire audience, and spoke through a magical amplification system:
"I am one of the examiners for this exam, Gennau."
The hall fell silent instantly.
"The selection examination for Level 1 Magicians is now officially beginning."
Gainau remained expressionless. "There are fifty-eight candidates in this exam."
He paused, his sharp gaze sweeping over everyone.
"The first test item is a team battle. You will need to form groups of three, with only one group having four people. However, don't feel it's unfair, as the extra person is a level five mage. Now, I will distribute bracelets to everyone to identify their teammates."
Association staff began distributing silver bracelets to the test takers, each with a small number on it.
"The bracelet has numbers from 1 to 19 on it."
Gennau continued to explain, "By infusing magic into the bracelet, one can sense the approximate location of teammates who possess bracelets with the same number."
Lynn took the bracelet and glanced at the number on it.
It is 13.
He infused a wisp of magic into the bracelet, causing it to heat up slightly, and quickly sensed his teammate's location.
Two are very close, on the other side of the hall, while the other is a little further away.
He raised his head, his gaze piercing through the crowd, and precisely locked onto a direction.
There, an elderly man with brown hair and beard, wearing a monocle over his left eye, was calmly looking over; it was Duncan.
Beside the old man stood a dazed young female mage, wearing a blue high-slit skirt, with a bun hairstyle and side-swept bangs; it was none other than Laofen.
They are Duncan and his grandson.
Of course they're not related; it's just that some people on Earth like to use memes.
The other was a middle-aged man with a small beard, Lichta.
Lynn straightened his collar and walked over.
"Looks like we're on the same team."
Lynn walked up to Duncan and spoke calmly.
Duncan's gaze lingered on the two swords at his waist for a moment, then he stroked his beard and said, "I am Duncan."
"Lynn".
Lynn nodded.
He knew that Duncan was a court magician, with strength at least at the level of a near-first-class mage, and was also a pure-hearted warrior.
The girl with the bun hairstyle standing next to Duncan also peeked out, a naive smile on her face: "My name is Laofen! Nice to meet you!"
"Lichta".
Another middle-aged man with a beard, Lichta, also nodded in acknowledgment, his expression somewhat indifferent.
Examiner Gennau once again stepped onto the platform, his indifferent gaze sweeping over the nineteen temporary teams that had been formed.
"The exam will be held in the Grob Basin, north of the Association. The Grob Basin is covered by a powerful barrier, and you cannot enter or leave from the outside. Now, I will take you to the entrance of the basin."
……
The group arrived at a designated area at the entrance to the basin, where staff distributed specially made birdcages to each team.
"Your objective is to capture a 'Meteorite Bird' before sunset tomorrow, bring it back here, and ensure everyone's safe arrival..."
After reading the exam rules, Ganau announced, "Let's begin."
Each team quickly sprang into action.
"Do you know anything about meteorite birds?"
Lichta asked the other three.
Lynn looked up and pointed to a treetop where a meteorite bird was perched: "All I know is that it's sensitive to magic, and..."
Before he could finish speaking,
call out!
The meteorite bird swept across the treetops at a terrifying speed, leaving only a string of leaves shaken off by the sonic boom.
"So fast!"
Laofen gasped and raised her hand to shield her eyes from the sun, trying to lock onto the target with her gaze, but she lost sight of it instantly.
Lichta's expression also turned serious: "It looks like it's going to be a tough battle."
Duncan stroked his brown beard, his expression unchanged, as if he were contemplating a strategy.
at this time,
"Well, I'm not very good at catching birds, and I don't know any useful magic."
Lynn shrugged, looking sincere. "I'll wait for your triumphant return in the safe zone not far from the examiners."
Upon hearing this, Lishita frowned, expressing her displeasure.
The Level 1 Mage Exam has somehow been snuck in by someone who just wants to coast through and win? And they're not even going to put on an act?
Laofen tilted her head, looking bewildered, and asked, "Huh? But it's a team battle, and Mr. Lynn isn't coming along. What if we can't catch him?"
Lynn smiled and said, "I believe you."
If we follow the normal plot, you will definitely be able to catch him, and even if there are deviations, I will still take action.
Duncan gave Lynn a deep look with his cloudy eyes, then smiled meaningfully: "It's alright. It's good for young people to have their own ideas."
He turned to the other two: "Let's go."
"Old man?" Laofen wanted to say something more.
"Let's go." Duncan's tone left no room for argument.
Although Raphael was puzzled, she obediently followed.
She looked back every few steps, her eyes filled with worry as she watched Lynn, who remained standing alone. "But what if something happens to Mr. Lynn? Wouldn't we lose then? The rules say that no team member can be missing."
Duncan didn't stop walking, but said in a steady voice, "Don't worry, Laoffen, no more than three people can kill him here."
Upon hearing this, Laofen and Lichta turned around sharply to look at the slender Lynn, their faces filled with disbelief.
Three? Including the examiners? This seemingly harmless man actually possesses such terrifying strength?
Lynn watched the three leave, his smile gradually fading.
Catching birds using magic is too inefficient.
The most efficient way to capture a meteorite bird is to first deplete your magic power.
He raised his hand and casually cast a few basic defensive and offensive spells at the empty wilderness.
The faint magical energy rippled through the air, quickly dwindling to almost nothing.
"Alright, my magic is exhausted. Now the meteorite bird won't be able to notice me."
Next second,
The warrior's physique was pushed to its limit.
The world instantly changed in his senses; the movement of every dust particle in the air, and even the subtle changes in the airflow at high altitudes, were clearly presented in his mind.
He looked up and his gaze locked onto a figure that was rapidly passing by in the sky.
Meteorite Bird.
He could even see the tiny sparks generated by the friction between its feathers and the air each time it flapped its wings.
"I've found you."
Lynn's lips curled into a smile, his legs slightly bent, and his body lowered, like a cheetah poised to pounce.
boom!
The ground beneath his feet cracked instantly, and his figure transformed into a blurry black shadow, soaring into the sky at a terrifying speed exceeding the speed of sound.
High in the sky, the meteorite bird, flying at high speed, seemed to sense the danger, but it was too late.
A hand precisely gripped its neck. The overwhelming force instantly silenced all its struggles.
Lynn's figure traced an arc in the air, landing lightly in his hand, holding a meteorite bird that had completely lost its ability to resist.
The entire process takes no more than three seconds.
"I wonder what the meat quality is like."
He weighed the bird in his hand and began to think about how to pass the time.
……
Meanwhile, on a high ground within the basin.
The examiners, Gennawu and Zanze, were sitting at a tea table, leisurely drinking tea.
"There seem to be quite a few formidable candidates among this year's applicants."
Gennau picked up his teacup, his expression serious.
Zanze nodded expressionlessly.
Suddenly, a strange fragrance wafted over.
"What does it taste like?"
Gainau frowned.
Zanze sniffed and said blankly, "It smells like roasted meat."
