Chapter 51 The Necromancer
Chapter 51 The Necromancer
Lynn had just come downstairs to ask about the location of the Nan Yong statue in the village when he heard Lorraine and Vic's words and was taken aback.
Lorraine, who was behind the counter, noticed him, waved, and said with a smile, "Young man, let's have a chat."
Lynn immediately walked to the counter and sat down.
Vic placed a large glass of ale in front of him, full of foam.
"Can you tell me about the old man?" Lynn asked.
Lorraine nodded and said, "It's been twenty years already. When I first met him, he was searching for his daughter."
Lorraine's thoughts drifted back to a long time ago, "That year, our village was attacked by monsters, and my parents died. I was the only one who escaped. But I hadn't gone far when I was surrounded by other monsters."
I thought I was going to die, but then the old man appeared. He was wielding a ten-meter-long wooden stick and wiped out the monster.
As Lorraine recounted this, she couldn't help but chuckle. "After the fight, he asked me if I had ever seen a girl named 'Lorraine'."
"Aren't you Lorraine?"
"My original name was Russell."
Lorraine shook her head. "I had nowhere to go at the time, so I stayed by his side and took care of him. He was sometimes lucid and sometimes confused. When he was lucid, he would tell me the real Lorraine, and when he was confused, he would treat me like a stranger."
"About a year later, one morning he woke up, looked at me, and called out 'Lorraine'."
"From that day on, in his mind, I was his daughter."
Lorraine laughed, "Later I opened this tavern so he would have a place to stay and stop running around. He always said he was going to defeat the Demon King and save the world, and sometimes we just couldn't stop him."
"The old man seems to have a strong obsession with defeating the Demon King," Lynn couldn't help but say.
"When the old man was lucid, he told me some things from the past."
Lorraine continued, "He said he was a member of the hero's party that went to defeat the Demon King, but less than half a year after their party set off, news of the hero Simmel defeating the Demon King spread."
Lynn put the glass back on the table, the foam of the ale sloshing around. "That's really unfortunate."
"By the way, is the old man really a magician?"
Lynn asked, "No matter how I look at him, he seems more like a warrior."
Lorraine's expression suddenly turned serious, and she said, "The old man was indeed a magician, and the magic he was skilled in was terrifying."
"fear?"
"right."
Lorraine's gaze drifted toward the stairs. "And he cast that spell on himself as well."
Just then, a series of hurried footsteps came from the stairs.
"Lynn!"
Laofen rushed downstairs, her face drained of color. "You have to go see! Something's happened to the old man!"
Lynn's heart skipped a beat.
He followed Laofen, rushing up to the second floor in two strides.
Vic and Lorraine followed behind, but their steps were not hurried.
Push open the door.
Cromwell lay peacefully on the bed, his hands folded over his abdomen.
Lynn walked quickly to the bedside and reached out a finger to check the old man's breath.
There is no airflow.
He then placed his hand on the old man's neck.
The skin was cold and there was no pulse.
Laofen stood to the side, looking flustered. "How could this happen? Everything was fine just now."
Lorraine and Vic then entered the room.
Vic glanced at the scene on the bed, sighed, and turned to lean against the door frame.
Lorraine walked calmly to the bedside, reached out and pulled the blanket up to cover Cromwell's chest.
"Let him get some rest."
Lorraine had a faint smile on her face.
"rest?"
Lynn frowned.
What's the point of resting when everyone's dead?
However, the next second.
"What's all the noise about?"
Cromwell yawned, rubbed his eyes, and said, "Are we having a meeting right outside my room?"
The air condensed.
"Grandpa, you...you're not dead?"
Laofen's voice trembled.
Cromwell turned to look at her, his eyes filled with bewilderment. "Die? Why should I die? The great task of defeating the Demon King is not yet complete."
After saying that, she threw off the covers, put on her shoes, and walked straight to the door.
Vic was still leaning against the door frame when he saw the old man walking over. He simply moved aside to make way for him.
Once the person left, the atmosphere in the room became extremely strange.
Lynn and Laoffen exchanged a glance, both seeing a big question mark in each other's eyes.
That's just how the old man is.
Lorraine turned around and met Lynn and the other person's stunned gazes. "This is the magic I was talking about."
Raphael became interested and took a step closer. "Is it magic that makes someone appear dead?"
"It wasn't a fake death. He used preservation magic and soul-binding magic on himself to imprison his soul inside his body."
Lynn's mind went blank.
Preservation magic combined with soul-binding magic?
These two types of magic are a perfect match.
"So, does that mean the old man is immortal now?"
Lynn was shocked.
"It's not that exaggerated. Soul-binding magic has its limits. It has lasted for ten years now, and it will probably expire in another two years."
"Lorraine said."
Cromwell had reached the top of the stairs and was shouting upstairs, "Come down for dinner!"
.......
After the meal, Lynn found the statue of Nan Yong in the village.
He still looked like an elegant middle-aged man, gazing towards the Demon King's castle.
Touching the statue, a warm current flows into my body.

……
The next morning.
Lynn got up very early and sat alone at the table by the window, munching on black bread.
Lorraine approached carrying a tray. "Mr. Lynn."
Lynn looked up, swallowed her bread, and said, "Good morning."
Lorraine clasped her hands together in front of her, looking somewhat hesitant.
"Mr. Lynn, I have a favor to ask."
"Speaking."
"It seems that the old man is determined to go to the Demon King's Castle this time."
Lorraine looked helpless. "So, I'd like to ask you to take the old man with you."
"I don't think there will be much of a problem if the old man goes alone, after all, I have witnessed his abilities."
Lynn remembered the three demonic bears that had been smashed into a pulp.
With that power, he felt it was possible not only to go to the Demon King's castle, but even to demolish it.
A bitter look appeared on Lorraine's face. "Although the old man is incredibly powerful, he has a fatal weakness now. Because he has forgotten that he is already dead."
"...If he were to encounter a priest on the road who could use purification magic, he would be completely powerless to fight back."
"That is a problem."
Lynn hesitated.
A person who has forgotten his own death is still determined to complete the "career" he did not finish in his youth.
This mess seems to be deeper than I imagined.
However, risks and rewards go hand in hand. With a necromancer by your side, as long as you avoid priests and churches, most monsters are no match for you.
After weighing the pros and cons, Lynn nodded solemnly, "I understand, we will take him with us."
Upon receiving an affirmative answer, Lorraine's tense shoulders finally relaxed, and a look of heartfelt gratitude appeared on her face.
"Thank you, Mr. Lynn."
