Chapter 22 Tony Unleashes His Power
Chapter 22 Tony Unleashes His Power
"Mr. Tony, S.H.I.E.L.D. is always ready to support you." The agent guarding the gate of S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters gave "Tony" a standard military salute.
Tony nodded to the agent and took back his identification card.
This was Shendu's first time entering S.H.I.E.L.D. Fortunately, he had previously sent Shadow Legion ninjas to infiltrate the place, and according to the information they sent, he was already very familiar with the floor plan.
Fury's office was at the top of the building. Just as the Lord arrived at the elevator, the elevator doors opened, and Steve stepped out.
"Tony?" Steve was surprised to see Tony. "Perfect timing, I was just about to look for you."
Tony raised an eyebrow: "Looking for me? What a coincidence, I was just about to go see Fury to ask about the situation."
"Looks like we're on the same page." Steve and "Tony" returned to Fury's office.
"Tony? What a coincidence, I just asked Steve to look for you." Fury was also surprised by "Tony's" appearance.
"I just happened to run into the captain at the elevator entrance," Tony said casually.
"Alright, let's get straight to the point. You should know that there's a mole within S.H.I.E.L.D., and their goal seems quite clear: to sow discord between us and Valon." Fury relayed the results of their previous discussion to Tony.
Tony stroked his chin, looking thoughtful. "What good will this do them?"
Fury pulled up the video of the Holy Lord controlling Leviathan: "This dragon is very powerful, controlling inanimate objects. You should know better than me how dangerous this power is."
"You mean, they want to use Valon's power to control my Iron Legion?" Tony feigned shock.
"It's not just that. If they have a way to amplify the Holy Lord's power, communication devices, missiles, and satellites could all be destroyed." Fury's fear grew as he spoke, and his determination to win over the Holy Lord became stronger.
Tony, listening from the side, was also shocked. Could the Rat Talisman really be used like this? He had never thought of it before. If it really could, he wouldn't have been sealed away by his father.
"Hmm...that does sound terrifying." Tony said after a long pause.
"Furry, you said in your message that there's a mole within S.H.I.E.L.D.?" Natasha's voice came from behind.
"Natasha, you've arrived," Fury greeted her. "Just as the message said, they're trying to sow discord between us and Valon. We can't let them succeed."
"What are you planning to do?" Natasha asked.
"As the message says, have Tony and Steve work with you to find the mole." Fury handed the prepared plan to Natasha.
Natasha glanced at the plan and put it aside: "The plan is feasible. I'm confident I can find the mole within a week."
Natasha arrived at the archives. S.H.I.E.L.D. agents register their work every day, and it's easy to find suspicious points by reviewing the work records over a period of time.
Just as Natasha was about to check the files, she was stopped by an agent: "Excuse me, Agent Natasha, the archives are under maintenance and temporarily closed."
"Repairs?" Natasha frowned. "Is there a problem with the facilities within S.H.I.E.L.D.? Or did you receive orders from someone?"
Natasha pulled out her identification card and said to the agent guarding the door, "Now, as a Level 7 Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., I order you to open the door."
The agent hesitated. If the equipment was damaged, the scene should be sealed off immediately to prevent sabotage. This was one of the rules for S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Now his superior wanted him to break this rule, which was a difficult situation.
Seeing this, Steve also took out his ID card and said, "Open the door."
Seeing that Steve had also spoken, the agent no longer hesitated and opened the door. He trusted Steve's character; if there were any problems with this matter, Steve, who had given the order, would take responsibility for him.
The archives room was filled with various cabinets, each containing information on agents. Tony picked up a file and glanced at it. In addition to basic information, all the files had a section at the bottom indicating whether the agent had been brainwashed, and all of them were marked "accepted".
Something's not right.
Natasha's voice came from the direction of the mainframe recording data: "All systems have crashed. Not only can we not see the agent's work records for this period of time, but we also won't be able to upload records for the next period of time."
"System crashed?" Steve also came to the mainframe: "I remember that the system here was installed by Stark Industries, and Stark Industries also has some control over it."
After Steve finished speaking, he and Natasha looked at Tony.
Sensing their gazes, "Tony" waved his hand: "Hey, you guys don't suspect I'm a mole, do you? What's this new lame joke?"
"We don't doubt you, but the current leads are related to Stark Industries, and we need an explanation," Natasha said in a hostile tone.
Tony's tone was unhurried: "You know, I'm just one of the shareholders of Stark Industries, and I'm not interested in cooperating with S.H.I.E.L.D."
"Stark Industries also has internal problems," Steve remarked from the side.
The trail went cold from the start, and Natasha felt increasingly uneasy. Stark Industries had never made a mistake so far, so why was something amiss at this crucial juncture?
She took out her phone and dialed several numbers in a row, her face growing increasingly gloomy.
"What happened?" Steve asked from the side.
Natasha ignored Steve's question and went straight to "Tony": "Stark Industries' monitoring facilities within S.H.I.E.L.D. are all currently malfunctioning. Don't tell me you didn't know that."
Tony didn't answer, but just looked at the other person with interest.
"Mr. Stark, I think we should address the problems within Stark Industries before we find the mole within S.H.I.E.L.D.," Natasha pressed.
"I refuse," Tony said decisively. "At least for the time being, Stark Industries must continue operating normally."
"Normal operation? You mean paralyzing all the Stark Industries systems within S.H.I.E.L.D.? Mr. Stark, are you kidding me? I don't think that's funny." Natasha stared directly into Tony's eyes, as if trying to see through him.
Seeing that the atmosphere was gradually becoming serious, "nice guy" Steve started to smooth things over.
"Natasha, calm down. Tony must have his reasons for not doing it now. The important thing now is to find the mole."
Natasha took a deep breath and glanced at "Tony" one last time: "Mr. Stark, I shouldn't have doubted you, but the facts all point to you."
"In the coming days, gather the agents within S.H.I.E.L.D. in batches according to their divisions, re-brainwash them, and then investigate Stark Industries after everything is over."
