Chapter 95 Entering the Treasure Vault
Chapter 95 Entering the Treasure Vault
The doctor didn't answer her, but simply pressed her back onto the bed and whispered a few words to his assistant in Asgardian.
Jane couldn't understand what they were saying, but she had a strong feeling that something bad was about to happen.
Footsteps came from outside the door, but they weren't the steady, heavy footsteps of Asgard; these footsteps were lighter and more dangerous.
The door was flung open by a dark elf, who pointed a cloud of black energy at the person inside: "Jane Foster, Lord Malekith wants to see you."
The doctors stood in front, raising their medical equipment to try and block the attack, but the dark elves did not hesitate to pull the trigger. The doctors' bodies melted in the beams of light, turning into a pool of liquid before they could even scream.
Jane screamed and rolled off the bed, hiding behind it.
"Don't resist." The dark elf approached Jane. "The more you resist, the more pain you will suffer."
Another doctor turned into a puddle of liquid beside Jane, who closed her eyes and waited for death in despair.
Not long after she closed her eyes, she heard another loud bang. When Jane opened her eyes again, she saw the dark elf lying on the ground with a fist-sized hole in his forehead.
Wanda stood in the doorway, chaotic magic dancing at her fingertips: "Come with me, the master wants to see you."
Jane was taken aback: "Master? Who is that? Why does someone else want to see me?"
Wanda turned and walked towards the door: "You're not qualified to know. If you don't want to die, hurry up and follow me."
At the entrance to the vault, another group of dark elves broke through the defenses and rushed to the vault's gate. This time, their numbers were greater than the last, and their equipment was even better.
The general's voice echoed through the corridor like thunder: "The treasury of Asgard, Lord Malekith said that it contains things belonging to the dark elves."
The Holy Lord said impatiently, "Why is it always this kind of talk? Is your language system really that low-level?"
Wanda led Jane through the corridor and ran wildly toward the vault. Jane, being an ordinary person, was far less physically fit than Wanda and could only follow behind, panting heavily.
"How much further?" Jane asked, panting.
Wanda replied without turning her head, "Happy, the master is just ahead."
After turning a corner, the treasure vault came into view. Jane saw a man in a black robe standing in front of the vault. The corridor was charred, and the mutilated corpses of some dark elves lay on the ground.
"Master," Wanda bowed respectfully before the Holy Lord, "Jane has been brought."
The Holy Lord nodded and looked at Jane.
Jane stared at those golden vertical pupils, feeling as if her heart was being gripped by a hand, and for a moment she couldn't breathe.
The Holy Lord spoke calmly and gently: "Hello, Dr. Foster, I am a friend of Saul's. You may call me the Holy Lord."
Jane breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the Holy Lord's explanation: "Thor's friend? That's great! What exactly happened outside? What are those black creatures?"
"Dark Elves," the Holy Lord said calmly, "Their leader Malekith wants what's inside you."
Jane was stunned for a moment: "The thing inside me? What's inside me?"
The Holy Lord walked up to Jane and raised his hand, the power of the Mind Stone flashing in his palm: "Aether particles, you may not feel it yourself, but there is indeed a very powerful force within you."
Jane's face turned pale: "You mean there's something else inside me?"
"That's one way to put it." The Holy Lord withdrew his gaze. "But this is not the time to discuss this. Malekith's people are looking for you. Once they obtain the power within you, the consequences will be unimaginable."
Jian opened his mouth as if to say something, but was interrupted by the Holy Lord raising his hand: "Go into the treasure vault first, that's the safest place right now."
Jane hesitated for a moment and glanced at Wanda.
Wanda said expressionlessly, "The master wants you to come in."
Jane sighed and followed the Holy Lord toward the door of the treasury.
The captain of the guard stopped them: "Holy Lord, the Father of the Gods has decreed that no one may enter the treasury without his permission."
The Holy Lord glanced at the guard captain, and in that instant, the guard captain felt as if something had invaded his consciousness, and a sense of dizziness arose in his brain.
"Open the door," the Holy Lord commanded.
The guard nodded mechanically, turned around, walked to the treasure vault door, and began operating the mechanism to open it.
Loki emerged from the shadows, lowering his voice: "The chief guard you control?"
The Holy Lord said calmly, "It's only temporary; opening the door requires his authorization."
Loki's lips twitched slightly, but he didn't say anything more.
The treasure vault doors slowly opened, and golden light shone through the cracks. The Holy Lord looked at the space behind the light and a slight smile appeared on his lips.
The doors to the treasury opened fully, and golden light emanating from within illuminated the entire corridor.
Jane subconsciously squinted and raised her hand to block the light. When her eyes adjusted to the brightness, she gasped when she saw what was in front of her.
The interior of the vault was far more magnificent than she had imagined, far surpassing any building on Earth. Countless gems were carved on the dome, emanating all the light within the vault. Carvings of the World Tree spread across the walls, recounting the prophecy of Ragnarok without any demonstration.
The Holy Lord stood at the entrance of the treasury, his eyes sweeping over the display cases before finally settling on the deepest part.
"Master," Wanda said, walking to the Holy Lord's side, "I can sense two extremely powerful auras of yours deep within the treasure vault."
The Holy Lord stepped onto the golden passage: "That's what we're looking for."
"Halt!" The guard captain reacted and his voice came from behind Gao, trying to stop the Holy Lord and his group.
The Holy Lord stopped and turned around to look at the Guardian Captain with some surprise. This man's consciousness was much stronger than that of the Asgardian soldiers.
"The Father of the Gods has decreed... that no one may enter the Treasury without his... permission."
The Holy Lord looked at him with only a calm scrutiny in his eyes: "Your loyalty is commendable."
The Holy Lord's voice wasn't loud, but everyone in the empty space could hear him clearly: "But you've already seen the battle outside, the Dark Elves are invading Asgard, and you've also witnessed my power. You can't stop me. Besides, according to the personnel arrangement, you should now obey my orders."
The guard captain frowned, his hand holding the spear trembling slightly.
"Are you questioning the Allfather's judgment?!" Loki's mocking voice came from the other side. "Father entrusted the defense of the vault to Shendu because he absolutely trusts him. Now Shendu is entering the vault to prevent the Dark Elves from obtaining the Aether. You, a mere captain of the guard, dare to stop him?"
The guard captain's face darkened. He knew Loki's words were absurd, but he couldn't find a reason to refute them.
"I will tell the Father of the Gods about this," said the captain of the guard.
