Kuina struggled to lift her head, her face covered in grass clippings and dirt, looking utterly disheveled, but the flame in her eyes did not go out; instead, it burned even more fiercely!
She spat out the grass root in her mouth, looked at Karp, and instead of admitting defeat, she forced a smile that was both painful and incredibly excited:
"I...I felt it! Let's do it again!"
Garp: "..." (This girl's got a stubborn head, huh?)
Ace and his two companions: "!!!" (A warrior! An absolute warrior!)
In the cellar, Rouge covered her eyes, unable to bear watching any longer.
Liu Jiu's lips curled up almost imperceptibly.
It seems Kuina has suffered the consequences.
Karp's vacation lasted a full two weeks.
This naval hero waved his hand and settled down at Mount Colbo. In his words, "I rarely come back, so I'm going to give these little brats a good talking to!"
Thus, Ace, Sabo, Luffy, and Kuina, who volunteered to join, began a two-week "hellish training."
Every day before dawn, Garp's thunderous roar would ring out precisely on time:
"You brats! And that stubborn little girl! Get up, all of you! The sun's already high in the sky!"
Then, the four of them, still half asleep, scrambled out of the house to face Garp's merciless "iron fist of love" and all sorts of unbelievable physical training.
Carrying a giant log and running all over the mountain?
Free climbing a steep rock face?
They engage in a life-or-death struggle (with Garp watching intently from the sidelines)?
Ace and Sabo complained bitterly, while Luffy cried and wailed (although he still had to continue training after crying).
Only Guina, despite always being beaten the worst and falling the hardest, had a light in her eyes that grew brighter and brighter.
She discovered that although Karp's training methods were brutal and even somewhat unreasonable, the results were extremely remarkable!
Her strength is increasing rapidly, her speed is constantly improving, and her resilience is growing stronger at a visible rate! More importantly, Garp's seemingly chaotic attacks contain an ultimate understanding of power and body control.
She began to try to incorporate this understanding into her own kendo.
Instead of sticking to fixed moves, it focuses more on the application of force, timing, and instantaneous judgment of the battle situation.
Her movements became more concise and efficient, carrying a subtle, Garp-esque domineering quality!
In just half a month, Kuina's progress has been nothing short of phenomenal. Although she still can't last more than a few moves against Garp, she can now easily neutralize the coordinated attacks of Ace and Sabo, even making them suffer greatly!
Ace and Sabo watched her terrifying rate of progress, feeling both admiration and frustration.
This violent woman... she's a monster!
During these two weeks, Liu Jiu and Lu Jiu were not idle either.
With Robin's help, they used the Flower Flower Fruit ability to scout their surroundings and avoid all of Garp's sight.
They quietly left Dadan's courtyard and found the old bandit hut in a more secluded ravine in the Korpo Mountains, where they settled down temporarily.
Although it is more basic here, it is safe and quiet.
Chapter 50 Inviting Someone to Dine and Dine Without Paying
The two-week hellish training finally came to an end with the conclusion of Garp's vacation.
As Karp's iconic dog-headed warship disappeared at the edge of the coastline, the entire Colpo Hill seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
Ace, Sabo, Luffy, and Kuina collapsed onto the grass in the yard, completely disheveled, their bodies aching and not wanting to move a single finger.
“It’s…it’s over…” Ace stared at the blue sky, his eyes vacant, as if he had just woken up from a terrible nightmare.
“I feel like I’ve died ten times already…” Sabo echoed weakly.
"Grandpa...it's so scary..." Luffy pouted, his eyes brimming with tears, but deep in his eyes there seemed to be a hint of unwavering determination.
Only Kuina, though equally exhausted, had an astonishingly bright eye, sparkling with a sense of lingering satisfaction and a great sense of accomplishment.
After a brief moment of dead silence.
Sabo suddenly tried to sprawl out like a carp... but failed. Gripping his teeth, he struggled to sit up, tossing his slightly disheveled blond hair aside, a radiant smile of relief spreading across his face.
"Hey! Brothers! And... Kuina!" He looked at the girl next to him, and after half a month of "sharing joys and sorrows," his address had become much more casual. "To celebrate that we survived the old man's hellish training!"
With a flourish of his hand, he announced with great enthusiasm:
"My treat! Let's go to the best pub in town... and the barbecue stand next door, and have a big meal!"
"Yay!!!" Luffy was the first to jump up in response, instantly forgetting his earlier fatigue, his eyes only seeing the barbecue.
Ace also struggled to sit up, licked his lips, and was clearly very interested in Sabo's proposal.
For the past two weeks, they've been eating food that they hunt and roast themselves, and their mouths are practically tasteless!
Kuina rubbed her still slightly sore arms and nodded nonchalantly: "Sure, it'll be good to stretch my muscles."
She feels she could eat a whole cow right now.
"Bookworm, shall we go together?"
Robin had come over at some point and overheard their plan. It just so happened that she also needed to replenish some new books and paper.
So, the five children, not quite grown up, packed their things quickly and set off down the mountain in a grand procession, heading towards the only bustling town in the Kingdom of Goa.
The atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful throughout the journey.
Ace and Sabo put their arms around each other's shoulders and discussed what kind of meat they wanted to order later.
Luffy jumped around Kuina, shouting that he wanted to have a contest with her to see who could eat more.
Kuina got annoyed by his noise and simply grabbed him by the throat, trapping him under her arm. Luffy immediately started flailing his arms and legs and yelling.
Robin followed quietly behind, watching the noisy scene before her, a faint smile playing on her lips.
For Ace and Sabo, who spent their lives in the junkyard and Mount Colbo, the towns of the Goa Kingdom were already synonymous with "prosperity".
With a clear goal in mind, the five headed straight for the barbecue stall that Sabo had described as having the "best food in the whole city."
It was a small stall set up on a street corner, with a charcoal fire burning brightly, oil sizzling on the hot plate, and a rich aroma of meat filling the air, making one's mouth water.
"Boss! Twenty skewers, no! Fifty skewers of grilled meat!" Sabo slammed his hand on the table with an air of grandeur, as if he had mountains of gold and silver in his pocket.
"Alright!" The stall owner, a chubby uncle, smiled so broadly that his eyes narrowed into slits when he saw that a big customer had come in.
Ace and Luffy had already eagerly sat down, their eyes glued to the metal plate, practically drooling. Kuina also pulled Robin down to sit, saying nothing, but her eyes were filled with anticipation.
Soon, the meat skewers, grilled to a perfect crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, with an irresistible aroma, were served.
"We're starting!"
Ace and Luffy pounced on the meat skewers like hungry wolves, stuffing them into their mouths even as they gasped for breath from the heat.
Sabo ate very quickly, mumbling between bites, "Kuina, Robin, don't be shy! Eat up! It's on me today!"
Kuina and Robin were relatively more refined, but they still enjoyed their meal. After two weeks of living a rough life, they certainly needed a good meal like this to comfort them.
Fifty skewers of grilled meat were quickly devoured by the five teenagers (especially the three gluttons).
"Boss! Fifty more skewers, please!" Sabo wiped the grease from his mouth and shouted again.
Another round of feasting ensued.
When Luffy stuffed the last piece of meat into his mouth, the five of them (mainly three boys) slumped back in their chairs, rubbing their round bellies and burping contentedly.
"Ah... I'm alive again..." Ace said with a contented expression.
"Sabo, that's great!" Luffy patted Sabo on the shoulder and grinned.
Sabo proudly raised his chin, then... he stood up and gave the stall owner an extremely bright and innocent smile:
"Uncle, the barbecue is delicious! We'll definitely come back next time!"
After saying that, he winked at Ace and Luffy.
Ace and Luffy instantly understood each other, and the three of them jumped up from their chairs almost simultaneously!
"run!!!"
Sabo shouted, and the three of them, like startled rabbits, turned and ran wildly into the depths of the alley! Their movements were so practiced it was almost heartbreaking!
Kuina and Robin were left sitting there, holding tissues they had just used to wipe their mouths, looking completely bewildered.
Is this how you invite them?!
Dining and dashing?!
Kuina's face instantly darkened. She was the future heir to the Isshin Dojo in Shimotsuki Village! Koushirou's daughter! How could she do something as shameful as dining and dashing!
Robin's lips twitched slightly as he watched the three guys disappear in an instant, then glanced at the stall owner next to him, whose smile had frozen on his face and was gradually turning into anger. He helplessly rubbed his forehead.
"Hey! You three little brats! How dare you dine and dash! Stop right there!" The stall owner was so angry that he picked up a rolling pin and was about to chase after them, but he couldn't catch up with them.
He turned around angrily, glaring at Kuina and Robin who were still sitting there, and said viciously, "Hmph! You can run away, but you can't hide! You two are in cahoots with them, aren't you? Pay the bill right now! One hundred skewers of grilled meat, one thousand Berries!"
Guina's face darkened further. She clenched her fists, wishing she could go and drag those three bastards back right now and beat them up.
Robin gently pressed her hand down and shook his head at her.
Then, under the suspicious gaze of the stall owner, Robin calmly counted out enough Berries from his small cloth bag to pay for the meal and gently placed them on the table.
“Uncle, this is our meal payment.” Robin’s voice remained calm. “I’m sorry to have troubled you.”
The stall owner paused, glanced at the neatly stacked pile of Baileys on the table, then at the two girls in front of him, whose demeanor was clearly different from the three wild boys from before. His anger subsided somewhat, and he muttered, "At least two of them are sensible..."
He put away the money, said nothing more, and went to pack up his stall.
Kuina watched Robin pay, knowing it was the best solution, but she was still seething with anger. She gritted her teeth and muttered, "Those three bastards… I'll teach them a lesson when I get back!"
Robin sighed and stood up: "Let's go find them first. It's just the cost of a meal."
The two girls left the barbecue stand and headed in the direction Ace and the others had fled.
