Chapter 86: The Mantis Stalks the Cicada, Unaware of the Oriole Behind
"Edward Stark, draw your sword, just you and me."
James dismounted, drew his longsword from his waist, and looked at Prime Minister Ed with a defiant expression.
"However, in case you use my brother's life as a threat, I promise that after I defeat you, I will spare your life in exchange for my brother's complete body."
"Do you know these people? That's the Prime Minister! The Warden of the North!"
In the dark alley, thirty or forty men with their faces covered by black cloths were lying in wait.
Rolger's tone was somewhat impatient. Was this man really a madman? He actually wanted them to attack Prime Minister Ed? Was he insane?
"Look at you, so impatient. You only know Prime Minister Ed, but you don't know who that man in the white robe is?" Lu Tie said nonchalantly, arms crossed.
Meanwhile, Crescent Moon was recording the upcoming unrestricted duel for his viewers in his live stream with great interest.
They've been following the prime minister all this way, and unexpectedly they've encountered a hidden mini-game here. Great, when the dogs are fighting and getting into a fight, they'll just jump in and reap the benefits.
"Fuck, is this something for nobody like us to get involved in!" Roger complained.
"No, no, no, you are a nobody, I am not. Standing behind me is His Majesty Viserys of House Targaryen, your true king."
You know my methods. Once they're both badly injured, your men go for it! Go after Eddard and Jaime. Kill one, and the king will knight you. Kill both, and you'll get land, making your descendants nobles for generations to come!
"Lifting weights," he said, placing his hand on Roger's shoulder. His tone was menacing.
"Can you represent the King?" Rolger's tone softened.
"I cannot reward you on behalf of the king, but the king will not mistreat a meritorious official. Think about it yourself, one is a friend of the usurper, a former traitor."
"One of them is the regicide who killed the former king. If you kill one of them, why would you be afraid that the king will treat you badly?" The weightlifter tempted the big, dumb guy in front of him.
"Hmph, I'm afraid if we don't get the reward, we won't even be able to leave King's Landing!" Rolger replied curtly.
"Why should we go out? The king is a good-for-nothing who only knows how to eat, drink, and have fun. The only capable person is this Prime Minister Ed. If you kill him, who will investigate the murderer? The commander-in-chief of the capital's garrison?"
Upon hearing this, Lu Tie curled his lip in disdain.
Roger fell silent, his gaze fixed on the two sides that were closing in and about to clash.
"I'll go and call the capital's garrison right now!" Littlefinger said, stepping out of the brothel and standing behind Ed.
"I advise you to go in, or I guarantee I'll chop you up first."
James's sword deterred Littlefinger from taking another step, and he had no choice but to retreat back into the brothel in a huff.
"Except for our prime minister, leave no wolves alive."
At James's command, the wolf pack and the lion pride quickly engaged in a bloody battle.
Eddard's captain of the guard, Jori, was indeed a skilled fighter; in a short time, he had already killed several red-robed men wielding spears with his longsword.
In a fit of rage, Prime Minister Eddard drew his sword, playing right into Jaime's hands. This highly skilled white knight was perhaps only able to set aside his arrogance with a handful of figures, such as the young Ser Barristan, the former Ser Arthur Dayne, Prince Rhaegar, and the Smiling Knight.
Jori, a man from the North, stood in front of Jaime, his blood-stained sword in hand. At his feet lay the fifth red-robed man he had already slain.
Without exchanging words, the two drew their swords to meet the attack. Admittedly, Jori was a rare and skilled fighter, but he was no match for the top-tier expert James.
When Eddard managed to escape from the crowd of red-robed figures, his captain of the guard, Jori, had already collapsed to the ground, lifeless.
Meanwhile, the Winterfell Guard, who were protecting the Hand of the King, had been completely wiped out, while Jaime's Redcoats still had seven or eight men remaining.
James smiled as he wiped the blood from his sword, gesturing for Ed to fight him one-on-one.
"I will kill you!" Ed coldly wiped the neck of the red-robed man he had pinned down.
"I have never considered you a match for Sir Arthur Dayne." James stepped forward slowly.
puff!
"Well!"
A flying spear struck Ed squarely in the calf.
The prime minister, whose calf had been pierced, immediately knelt on the ground.
James turned around angrily, only to see his men looking completely bewildered.
"kill!"
Suddenly, twenty or thirty people appeared from all directions. They were all dressed in armor, holding swords and knives, and had fierce expressions on their faces.
In the alley, a weightlifter stopped Roger.
"Alright, I guessed right, but I didn't expect them to hold back until now."
"Lifting weights," he said slowly.
"Them? You arranged for others too?" Roger looked bewildered.
"It's none of your business. Let them wade through first, we'll make our move last," said Lu Tie.
"The capital's garrison will probably arrive soon!" Roger said anxiously.
Lifting weights gave James a meaningful look and said:
"If they had come earlier, they probably wouldn't have had anyone of any importance to go looking for them. Paro's dim-witted boss wouldn't have sent anyone. Let's wait."
"That's the prime minister of a country," Rolger mused.
"Kill them both, and the reward will be split equally among everyone!"
"Be careful, everyone. This game has been updated; if you die, you can't respawn on the spot!"
"Take care of them!" James said with displeasure.
His men in red robes immediately turned their spears and faced the enemy.
James gave Ed, whose forehead was already beaded with cold sweat, a cold glance, then turned, mounted his horse, and left the scene.
"Don't let him get away!"
The identity of the visitor was self-evident; he was naturally a player who remained steadfast in his original intention to assassinate a few ministers or kill the usurper, hiding in the realm of kings.
Seeing a big target about to slip past them, the players panicked, and some even pulled out the Molotov cocktails they had made over the past few days.
Whoosh~ He threw it over.
Unfortunately, his aim wasn't very good, and James's steed, while not quite on par with Red Hare, quickly disappeared from the players' sight.
"Damn it, killing that one would be fine too!"
"Hurry up and get started, lest we attract the Golden Robe's attention again!"
The red-robed figures who remained in place were quickly slaughtered by the players, who suffered several casualties.
They quickly turned their attention to Ed, who was unable to move easily.
"You can leave now." Lu Tie, who had been observing from the shadows, waved his hand, signaling the bewildered Roger to leave with his men.
He then patted Crescent Moon on the shoulder.
The other person pulled out a crossbow from his pocket, aimed at Ed, and fired an arrow.
puff!
Ed's pupils dilated suddenly as an arrow struck him squarely in the throat.
"Well done!"
"Damn it! What a load of crap, they're not one of ours!"
"Capital Garrison! Lay down your weapons!"
"Let's go!" Seeing that Crescent Moon had succeeded, Lu Tie put away the short crossbow he was preparing to use to finish off the enemy, and the two turned and left.
"Damn it, we're the scapegoats now!"
"Damn, that's really mean!"
The large contingent of the capital's garrison was already closing in from a short distance. The players could only curse under their breath and turn to flee.
