Chapter 528 When Barbatos and the Anti-Monitor Knock on the Door Together (Original Comic Text Attached)
The owl suffered a crushing defeat.
As the Joker said, a good plan needs a core that is consistently followed from beginning to end.
But for Night Owl, his plans were constantly changing.
One moment he wants to team up with Batman to fight the Anti-Monitor, and the next he decides to betray Batman based on information he obtained from the Mobius Chair.
After Batman came knocking on his door, he thought he could persuade the other to sacrifice himself. However, when he discovered that the other had turned the tables on him and was targeting Superman the Younger, he compromised on this core issue, even handing over the right to "who activates the Speed Force Storm".
They are hesitant and indecisive, good at planning but bad at making decisions. They have a lot of trump cards, but very few of the key ones. They lack a complete decision that is not influenced by external forces.
The political situation entangled his plans and actions, ultimately turning them into a complete mess. He wanted everything, but grasped nothing of substance.
Those who chase after the times will eventually be swallowed up by them.
When Batman found Nite Owl, he saw him slumped on the ground, utterly crushed by the irreversible reality.
Chen Tao removed Night Owl's helmet. Underneath that heavy, thick armor was nothing more than a powerless mortal, like a child who had killed his parents and accidentally killed his younger brother in the crime alley, his hands stained with blood.
Chen Tao immediately checked whether the owl in front of him was a robot or a clone. He pinched the other's chin and gave him a blood test, which showed that it was the real thing. This result left him full of doubts.
He has now separated from Möbius. In their universe, Möbius could still speak clearly and logically, but after entering this universe, the other's condition became increasingly abnormal.
When they first met, Möbius, or rather the Anti-Monitor, gave him the impression of a cold-blooded demon, who remained ruthless even when his heart was ripped out.
This personality remained unchanged until just now—the Counter-Monitor suddenly awoke from some kind of manipulation, like a puppet breaking free of its strings. He displayed a great deal of human-like emotion, including not only resentment and fear, but even sought an alliance with him on the spot.
This attitude is completely different from before, and it even gives people a somewhat frightening feeling upon closer inspection.
And he truly hadn't expected... that the Möbius before him was nothing more than a pitiful creature, coveted by a higher power, just like himself. The only difference now was that he had broken free from these controls, while the other remained trapped within them.
Yes, that familiar feeling is back.
Despite the Night Owl's series of trump cards being unleashed, which failed to stop or change anything, Chen Tao still watched helplessly as Möbius gradually reverted to being the ruthless anti-surveillance agent.
His face, which had been full of expressions after he took off his helmet, began to freeze again in the short time after he killed the Galactic Golem, transforming from a living creature back into a relief.
Although the other party still identified as Möbius rather than the Anti-Monitor, Chen Tao felt increasingly uneasy the longer he stayed next to him. So he quickly separated from the other party while he was still rational and rushed to find Night Owl. He planned to complete the exchange reaction between the two universes first and move the sun, which contained the Supreme Superman, into this universe. Otherwise, he was really not confident.
He originally thought he would encounter fierce resistance from Night Owl, after all, this was a life-or-death situation for the other party. He and Möbius had just entered his universe through a tiny area where the two universes overlapped, and they were immediately met with a series of Night Owl Plan mini-attacks.
Even now, the Anti-Monitor is still slaughtering the seemingly endless Amozzo robots that are attacking him, dealing with the magical explosions created by the Propulsion Tower system using the magic energy of the Planetary Heart at specific points, and extinguishing the forced teleportation arrays that the Night Owls somehow created to try to teleport him away.
Night Owl's preparations were far more thorough than his; he must have spent a considerable amount of time devising these plans. Although he hadn't inflicted any damage, he had still slowed them down, which weighed heavily on Chen Tao's mind.
He worried that before meeting Night Owl, he would have to go through a tedious puzzle-solving activity comparable to collecting the Riddler's question mark boxes, to find his real body among the many fake bodies set up by Night Owl, and he would have to go through a lot of hardship to crack what other tricks the other party had left in the push tower system, wasting a lot of time before finally completing the replacement.
But he found the Night Owl's true form so easily. Chen Tao then examined the Night Owl from head to toe, even thinking it was a trap.
After wasting a while, Chen Tao finally realized he had been tricked. He grabbed the limp Night Owl, opened a portal, and stepped out, appearing...
In front of Luther.
Luther had somehow acquired a spaceship, which was currently in a corner of a sector. Since Night Owl went mad, he had fled with Wolf and Nightwing, and then appeared here. Seeing Chen Tao here, Luther was overjoyed.
"Batman!"
He greeted them with a beaming smile, then secretly activated the scanner on his armor.
Chen Tao also used the Kryptonian X-ray vision of the high-speed bullets to temporarily verify at the cellular level that Luther was still the Lex Luther he knew.
After both sides subtly verified each other's authenticity, Luther grabbed Batman's arm.
"I need your help. I've finally found the location where Night Owl is hiding the Green Lanterns under my control, but he's placed a reinforced barrier on it that's connected to the Propulsion Tower system's magical energy, so I can't open it for now. But according to my calculations, if I use enough power to attack the weakest point inside..."
Nightwing, seeing Batman nearby, was eager to say a few words, but his attempt was first interrupted by Luther, and then stopped by Chen Tao with a look, so he had to retreat.
Before Luthor could finish speaking, Batman picked up the Night Owl clone he was holding—Luthor had assumed it was a Night Owl clone, as he had seen far too many of these flesh-and-blood puppets controlled by Night Owls.
But three pink dots appeared on Batman's face, and then a large number of tiny mechanical chains, exactly like Brainiac's, extended from his arms and pierced straight into the brain of the Night Owl in front of him.
Then Night Owl spoke up, saying, "Everything is going according to my plan."
"What?" Luther said.
"The password, the password to open that barrier, the pure English letters of what Night Owl just said."
Chen Tao briefly accessed Night Owl's memories; time was of the essence, so he couldn't read them all and could only pick out the important ones first. Then he told Luther, "That's how Night Owl was set up."
Luther suddenly realized what was happening. While controlling his robot outside the spaceship to input the password on the console, he also issued an order to Bizarro outside to return.
"Let me see... It really is this password. How ironic." Luther glanced at Night Owl, whose forehead was pierced by a metal tube, his mouth and eyes distorted, completely worn down by Batman and cruel reality, his facial expressions utterly out of control.
"Everything was planned? Ha! Even getting beaten up like this was part of your plan?"
Chen Tao tilted his head and stared at him, feeling that Luther was subtly criticizing a certain Bat of Laughter.
"Stop talking nonsense and hurry up," he said. "We really don't have much time."
"Okay, two seconds."
Luther finished quickly and then handed the situation over to Nightwing: "Make sure they're all out of the barrier! Being trapped inside might prevent them from returning to our universe via displacement. And then..."
Before he could finish speaking, Chen Tao grabbed him and tucked him under his arm. With his other hand, he grabbed Night Owl. Three pink dots on Chen Tao's head flashed, and a metal tube protruded from his forehead toward Luther.
Luther protested:
"Hey, I never said you could read my mind like that—ugh!"
Before he could finish speaking, Chen Tao interrupted.
He found the teleportation coordinates he needed, and then the three of them disappeared behind the sonic boom tunnel once again, leaving only Nightwing bewildered in the wind amidst a bunch of complicated instruments that Luther had put together.
They appeared at the main tower of the Propulsion Tower. Luther knew Batman was in a hurry, so he kept the question of how the other man had captured Night Owl to himself.
Night Owl is such a formidable opponent; Batman must have gone through countless battles of wits and courage to capture him. Asking about these details now would be a waste of time.
Chen Tao didn't waste any more words. He threw the limp Night Owl onto the seat next to him, and then did the same to Luther, with the two of them sitting side by side.
He then connected the two men's heads with a metal lock similar to the one used by Brainiac. In an instant, the veins on Luther's forehead throbbed, and a large amount of information and knowledge about the entire propulsion tower system from Night Owl flooded into his mind in a short period of time.
"I know how to conduct the displacement reaction after the superposition of two universes." He gritted his teeth, and blood gushed from his nose, the result of the ruptured capillaries in his nasal cavity.
Chen Tao removed the metal tube from his forehead, and then with a wave of his hand, the power armor worn by Night Owl was transformed into a metal coffin that trapped Night Owl under the deconstruction of the metal spirit's magic.
Anyway, the opponent's true form is just a mortal. Once the power armor is gone, there's no way for them to break free. Just leaving them a way to breathe is enough.
He casually tossed the night owl from the coffin aside, then turned to Lex Luthor: "Hurry up, ignore everything else, just swap our universe's sun with this universe's sun."
He urged urgently, "Superman and William are inside."
"Hurry!"

……
The melting pot of the world.
Emerging from the darkness are glimmers of molten potential. This is the land of creation, the origin.
For countless generations, the World Forger has forged here the hopes and fears of all living beings into countless universes. The most stable ones have risen to the orbits of the universe, while the distorted and capricious worlds are destroyed by Barbatos so that these energies may return to the furnace.
But now, the great craftsman of the Hammerchain universe is long gone, and a destructive dragon lies coiled on its master's corpse, usurping his authority.
As the embers of the world's furnace were dying down, Barbatos opened his eyes.
His figure was shrouded in a huge cloak, with only a pair of enormous dragon wings slightly folded behind him.
A chilling chewing sound came from his mouth, purple lightning swirled around his body, and a large number of clown dragons cowered timidly beside him.
He then turned slightly to the side and listened intently.
He heard a faint sound coming from the horizon, like a whisper in his ear.
"...It's you."
Barbatos licked his paws, and then the beast stood upright.
The sound continued to ring.
"Mobius is mine. Batman is yours."
"Okay," Barbatos readily agreed.
Then the voice disappeared, as if he had never left.
The Dark Multiverse Dragon lay back down. It bared its fangs, revealing a sinister grin.
That Batman was struggling, he knew it. Just like countless Batmen in the Dark Multiverse were struggling.
But under Barbatos's rule, everything will end in darkness. And within this darkness, who will be the fool...?
Do you believe you will win?

The Batman universe.
Fiji.
That damned blue portal reappeared, but it was as if it were welded shut, always only appearing in the caves inside the volcano, unable to interfere with the existing reality.
"I told you trying was pointless, Master Time."
"Enough, Golden Vanguard. Barbatos has already made a deal with the Anti-Monitors. Don't you understand? It's like two tigers have agreed on how to divide the spoils after killing you. Next, they'll come knocking on your door and let you choose how you die."
"Relax, the Anti-Monitors can't affect reality. The First Crisis is the cornerstone of the multiverse; it laid the foundation for the Hypertime Flow. It's like the foundation of a building."
(Note: The first crisis mentioned by the Golden Vanguard refers to Crisis on Infinite Earths, which was also the first major event in the DC universe to reboot the universe, laying the foundation for everything that followed.)
"But once the foundation collapses, the chain reaction caused by the hypertime flow will put the entire multiverse in danger of collapsing! Damn it, Golden Vanguard, you have no idea how important our work is, or how dangerous it is."
The Time Master wailed, "If the Anti-Monitor upstream in the trans-timeline manages to reach an agreement with Barbatos, who is already troublesome enough in this current timeline, he has a chance to reverse his defeat in the First Crisis. This is devastating!"
"He can't do it."
"A three-foot layer of ice doesn't form in a single day. If we continue to let him run rampant, his scheme will eventually come to fruition."
The Time Master snapped, "Stop talking nonsense! I'm trying, I have to find a way to intervene—damn it, why? Why can't I intervene no matter what I do?"
(Note: The idea that if the Anti-Monitor changes its own fate in Crisis on Infinite Earths, it will cause the collapse of the multiverse is mentioned in Convergence of the Multiverse. In the original comics, Superman in P52, Parallax Morhal, the Flash during Crisis on Infinite Earths, and the original Supergirl Kara Zoe-El—note that this Supergirl's name does not have "Zo" in the middle because she is the first Supergirl, not the sixth Kara Zoe-El; they are completely different people.)
They teamed up at the end of the "Multiverse Convergence" event to stop the Anti-Monitors, thus successfully restoring the multiverse. (I'll post the original comic text here ↓)
