Chapter 8 Extraordinary Gathering
Chapter 8 Extraordinary Gathering
"Hey! Watch out!"
Lorne, carrying a suitcase and a bag, dodged a speeding carriage with a somewhat flustered air.
This is the third time today.
But this can't be blamed on Lorne. For a transmigrator like him, Rune's left-hand traffic rule was too counterintuitive, and the roads were far less spacious than in the original world.
Looking at the crowds around him and feeling the sunset reflected on his face, Lorne felt a little melancholy, as if he were an outcast in the world.
For some reason, he felt something inside him loosen up.
"Forget it, don't think about these things anymore." Lorne calmed himself down and continued walking towards Grizzly Bar.
It took Lorne a while to get to the Grizzly Bar, his suitcase making him stand out from the surroundings. After ordering a drink, just like last time, Lorne found the 'bottle' in the innermost room on the second floor.
"I'd like to leave my suitcase and bag here with you for now, and pick them up when I'm done."
"I'll pay you for the storage," Lorne added, looking at the 'wine bottle'.
"Can."
The bottle nodded.
"By the way, I'd like to buy some weapons."
The bottle glanced at Lorne and asked, "What do you want?"
"A pistol and the corresponding ammunition," Lorne replied.
Lorne didn't originally need weapons that much, but his current situation is dangerous. He's unarmed, and the 'monster' potion doesn't provide him with any offensive capabilities, so he has no choice but to buy some things for self-defense.
While bullets may not be effective against extraordinary individuals, they can at least provide them with some sense of security.
"3 pounds," the 'bottle' quoted a price.
"I'll give you a revolver and 60 bullets, and I'll also give you a gun holster under your arm."
"Believe me, this price is fair. I wouldn't be giving you such a good deal if you weren't a regular customer."
Lorne looked down and recalled the prices of the relevant items from his memory, then nodded.
"Can."
Lorne took out a three-pound note and handed it to him, then took out a two-sol note.
"Storage fee." With that, Lorne handed his luggage to "Bottle."
Without saying anything, "Wine Bottle" took Lorne's luggage. When he picked up Lorne's bag, he found that the bag suddenly started moving.
"Alive?" the bottle asked doubtfully.
"My pet." Lorne's eyes darted away, offering no further explanation.
'It is an extraordinary pet, though,' Lorne added to himself.
"Wait for me a moment," 'Bottle' said, carrying his luggage to the door.
After watching "Bottle" leave the room, Lorne looked down and glanced at the card table beside him.
He discovered that the style of the playing cards was very similar to what he remembered, and the way he played it was exactly the same as the Dou Dizhu game he played before he transmigrated, only with a different name: Dou Evil.
Could it be Roselle again? Lorne couldn't help but think of that name.
About five minutes later, "Bottle" pushed open the door and entered, carrying a small wooden box in his hand.
Lorne took the box and opened it directly. What came into view was a black-barreled revolver with a mahogany handle. It looked very new, and the whole gun reflected the light.
In addition, there were 60 bright yellow bullets.
Lorne took out the pistol and examined it. He had absolutely no idea how to test a gun; neither he nor the original owner of this body possessed any knowledge in this area. It was only after 'Bottle' reminded him that he was able to successfully open the magazine and take a look.
"My intuition tells me there's nothing wrong with this pistol." After putting down the pistol, Lorne made his judgment. Now that he had become an Extraordinary, he chose to trust his intuition.
Seeing Lorne's clueless expression, 'Bottle' asked, "Do you know how to use this gun holster?"
"Uh..." Lorne shook his head awkwardly.
There was no other way, so "Bottle" had to instruct Lorne on how to equip the gun holster under his arm.
After fiddling with it for a while, Lorne successfully put away the gun and bullets.
"It's almost time, kid, come with me." He said, glancing at the clock on the wall.
Lorne followed the "bottle" to the back door of the bar, from where he entered a dark alley. After turning left and right, he arrived at a dark house.
He pulled a mask from his pocket and handed it to Lorne, saying, "Consider it a free gift with the gun purchase."
"Pretty professional," Lorne said, taking the mask and putting it on.
Seeing that Lorne was almost ready, "Bottle" stepped forward and knocked on the door rhythmically.
About ten seconds later, a small wooden board on the door was suddenly pulled open, revealing brown eyes behind it.
After being scrutinized by that gaze for a while, Lorne finally saw the front door of the house open.
A man wearing an iron mask stepped forward, handed Lorne a hooded robe, and said in a hoarse voice to 'The Bottle', "Come earlier next time!"
After saying that, he closed the door and led Lorne through the dark living room to the first-floor sitting room. A candle was lit on the coffee table there, its dim yellow light casting shadows throughout the room.
A dozen or so people, dressed in robes and wearing masks, were sitting on chairs around the coffee table, just like Lorne.
Lorne found an empty spot to sit down and looked around.
After a short while, an elderly man with a strong scholarly air spoke up: "It's almost time, everyone, let's begin."
He had barely finished speaking when a slightly immature voice rang out.
"Um... I want to ask everyone a question, and I'll offer a reward."
"If someone drinks a potion from one pathway, do they still have the opportunity to choose another pathway?"
"I wanted to ask that question too, what luck!" Lorne said excitedly. Since someone had asked first, he didn't have to show his face.
"Ha, what a stupid question," a burly man scoffed.
"Are you so rich you don't know how to spend it, that you're just here to throw money away?"
Before the man could say anything more, the scholarly-looking old man spoke up: "No payment is needed. I can answer your question; the answer is no."
"Once you choose a path and drink the potion, there is no going back, so you must be careful when choosing a path."
"If you drink potions from other sources, you'll either lose control or die." The old man added another point of knowledge.
"Thank you for your generosity, Mr. 'Eye of Wisdom'." His voice was clearly tinged with disappointment.
Lorne, who was standing nearby, was also disappointed. He had originally planned to try to change the monster path if he could, but he didn't expect to receive this news.
"Am I destined to be a 'monster'?" Lorne sighed inwardly.
Although he got the answer for free, Lorne was not happy at all, and he also felt that the old man known as the "Eye of Wisdom" was showing off a bit.
After a moment's thought, Lorne also spoke up, "I'd like to know some information about 'assassins.' Does anyone know anything? I can offer you a reward that will satisfy you."
The silver-haired woman gave him the "Assassin" potion, so she was most likely an extraordinary individual on this path.
Moreover, since his orange cat had drunk the "Assassin" potion, it wouldn't hurt Lorne to spend some money to buy some information about this method.
"It's a pity that woman didn't tell him the name of the organization, otherwise I could have asked her." As soon as Lorne finished asking, he noticed that the old man with the "Eye of Wisdom" turned his gaze towards him.
"I know that too. I can tell you, how about 10 pounds?" the old man with the "Eye of Wisdom" said.
Watching him answer the question quickly, Lorne always felt that this "Eye of Wisdom" seemed to have a special desire to perform.
After a moment's thought, Lorne replied, "Yes."
"Then stay behind after the party, and I'll tell you privately."
