Chapter 51: Yeze Natsune
Chapter 51: Yeze Natsune
Shi Chen's gaze was drawn to the petite girl in front of him.
The words "Saintess" immediately came to mind. When he faced her in person, he realized that she truly lived up to the name.
The girl had a gentle smile on her face, which was like a breath of fresh air, making people forget about the terrible surroundings.
She also clearly seemed out of place among those around her.
Her snow-white hair, her pale blue eyes that shimmered like the light of a glacier, her indescribable aristocratic air, her pure and refined beauty—she seemed otherworldly.
Her delicate face was quite youthful, but her height was not like that of a child, which was probably related to the fact that she was different from Japanese people.
The girl was wearing a short-sleeved uniform, which Shi Chen recognized as the uniform of a nearby elementary school.
In other words, she was still just a primary school student, but she had grown into a graceful young woman with features as mature as a middle school student.
"Um..." the silver-haired girl reminded her again.
"Sorry." Shi Chen snapped out of his daze and smiled apologetically, "I'm sorry to have bothered you."
"It's nothing..." The silver-haired girl lowered her head shyly, whether she was amazed by Shi Chen's appearance or it was just her personality.
"Little girl, what are you doing here?" Shi Chen asked knowingly.
"I... um..." The silver-haired girl looked at the stray cat circling around her feet, hesitant to speak.
"I understand. You're here to feed these kittens, right?" Shi Chen said gently.
"Um......"
"Don't worry, I'm a teacher at Caihai Academy. My name is Shichen. I was just bored, so I came here to take a look around," Shichen explained softly.
"So that's how it is." The silver-haired girl seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, then looked up at the time and revealed a faint smile.
"Hello teacher, I am Natsune Yase."
She seemed to believe Shi Chen's words immediately.
"Yase-san, did you adopt all these stray cats?"
"Hmm... it should be fine, right?" Natsumi Yase looked at Tokichi cautiously, as pitiful as a little animal.
"Of course, no problem. At least I think it's no problem."
"Thank you, teacher."
"Why are you thanking me?" Shi Chen shook his head with amusement.
"Um..." Natsumi Yase lowered her head shyly.
"Speaking of which, how do you manage to raise so many cats all by yourself?" Shichen walked towards Yese Xiayin, about a meter away from her, squatted down, and looked at the cats around him.
There are seven in total, mostly black and white, some are snow kittens, some are black kittens, and some are mixed, but there are also two orange kittens.
Each one looks quite clean, and their fur is fluffy and soft, making them very cute and tempting to pick up and pet.
"I don't need to take care of them. I just come to check on them occasionally." Natsumi Yase also squatted down.
She noticed that Shichen seemed to really like the kittens, and he smiled gently.
"Occasionally?" Shi Chen looked at her and blinked.
"I'm sorry, it's every day." Natsumi Yase pursed her lips shyly and honestly admitted.
"You don't need to apologize to me, this isn't my territory. But why did you bring these stray cats here to raise?"
"Actually... this used to be a monastery, and I was adopted here."
"So, this place is actually your territory now?" Shi Chen said jokingly.
"No, no, no." Natsumi Yase quickly waved her hands, "This place isn't mine, I'm just borrowing it."
"Haha, just kidding. This place is abandoned. Feel free to use it."
"...Teacher seems to have a bit of a bad intention." Natsume Yase looked at him with embarrassment and annoyance.
"I'm so sorry, as compensation, how about I help you take care of these stray cats?"
"Huh? Really?" Natsune Yase asked incredulously, her eyes wide.
Her gentle expression finally changed; it seemed she truly cared about these kittens.
"I'm not kidding, I love kittens too. I can't resist them. If my family didn't forbid it, I would have taken one home to raise."
"Teacher, thank you so much!" Natsumi Yase immediately stood up and bowed deeply to Shichen.
"No need to thank me, I'm doing this for myself."
"Teacher is such a kind person, that's wonderful," Natsumi Yase said to the kittens, her smile radiant.
"Meow~" As if in response, the kittens came closer to her feet and rubbed their little heads against her.
This scene captivated Shichen; the pure and holy aura of Natsume Yase and the affection of the kittens were truly purifying.
"How do you know I'm gentle?" Shichen asked curiously.
"That's exactly how I feel," Natsumi Yase replied with a smile.
"so."
This must be her special inspiration? No wonder she trusted him so easily; she sensed that he wouldn't hurt her.
He did not deny the gentleness in his attitude at that moment.
Subsequently, under the guidance of Natsumi Yase, Shichen quickly became close to the seven kittens.
One of the little snow cats was particularly affectionate towards him, running up to him and rubbing against him.
"Teacher, it seems like Yuki really likes you?" Natsumi Yase was very happy to see Toki and the kitten being so affectionate.
"Is its name Xiaoxue? It seems we're destined to meet. It's a pity I can't take it home."
Nangong Nayue's apartment doesn't allow pets, otherwise he would definitely have been able to persuade her to get a cat.
It's so boring at home, we don't even have a TV. If we don't get a cat to guard the house, he'll really have nothing to do.
"It's alright, it's fine as long as the teacher comes to see them occasionally," Natsumi Yase said softly.
"I didn't bring them any food either. I can come back this afternoon and bring them some."
"Is the teacher coming again this afternoon?"
"Yeah, I'm a PE teacher, so I'm pretty free," Shi Chen replied with a smile.
"Can the teacher wait for me?"
"Are you coming this afternoon too?"
"I...I plan to come again after school, is that alright?"
"Why are you asking me?" Shi Chen smiled. "But are things alright at home?"
"It's okay... my dad doesn't restrict me."
"Your father..."
"Actually, I was adopted, but he is my mother's brother and he is very good to me," Natsumi Yase confessed softly.
"I see." Shichen secretly clenched his fist, then smiled at Yese Natsune: "You really are gentle."
"I just like small animals," Natsumi Yase said shyly.
"It's a good thing to like small animals. I like them too. We're kindred spirits."
"Um."
"Okay, I'll wait for you here after school."
"Thank you, teacher."
"Let's stop here for now. You should go back to school. It's quite far from here. I'll watch over Xiaoxue and the others for you a little longer."
"I understand, then I'll leave it to you, teacher."
"Okay, leave it to me." Shi Chen smiled and patted his chest to assure him.
"Shall I go now?"
"Hurry up, don't be late."
"See you this afternoon, teacher."
"Okay, see you later."
Natsune Yase turned back every three steps, quickly crossed the small park, went down the hill, and left the place.
Shichen didn't rush to leave. He played with the kitten for a while, and only stood up after confirming that Natsumi Yase wouldn't be coming back.
"Xiaoxue, can you two go hide over there for a while?" he said to Xiaoxue and me.
Meow~
As if understanding the time, Xiaoxue led the other kittens away from the ruins.
Shi Chen was very happy with Xiao Xue's intelligence, and then turned around and went to the metal sign with two intertwined snakes.
[Sage's Blood Detected. Activate with Divine Shard?]
Sage's Blood is a crimson liquid metal life form with independent will, created by the alchemist Nina Adilard. If one's soul is transplanted into this life form, one can become a truly immortal being.
What makes this miracle possible is a control unit made of a bright red gemstone known as the "core refiner".
When one transfers their consciousness into the "core," they can maintain their consciousness even while merging with the "spiritual blood." They can then transform their physical body into an immortal metallic life form, gaining near-eternal life and magical power comparable to that of a true vampire progenitor.
Shichen came here because he thought of the Sage's Blood.
He had no interest in transforming his physical body into a metallic life form, since he already possessed an immortal life. But what if he could absorb the blood of a sage to gain magical power?
Opportunity favors the prepared mind; one should always give it a try.
He knew about "core refining," but thinking about his own fragments of godhood, he figured he might as well give it a try.
In hindsight, he was right.
