I thoroughly enjoyed the New Year's Greeting Festival, especially the ping-pong segment—it was so exciting! I'm looking forward to next year's festival.
Also, I got Kongming in the lucky bag!
Chapter Twenty: The Price of Witnessing the Truth
Upon hearing Kannazuki Kyohei's words, Chang Yan felt his head start to ache again.
(This hopeless masochistic pervert.)
Although Chang Yan knew he was an incurable masochistic pervert, he never expected him to ask such a question. It can only be said that he has reached a certain level of perversion.
Despite the headache, I still have to say something.
"I can only say that I can't help with this. You should ask a professional."
"Is that so? Then I'm sorry to have bothered you. I'll take my leave now, Mr. Changyan."
"Walk slowly without sending."
Clearly, Kannazuki Kyohei was slightly disappointed at not getting an answer, but perhaps he had already prepared himself for it, and quickly smiled and took his leave.
Watching Kannazuki Kyohei walk into a small alley, Chang Yan asked Warwick, who was stealthily following him,
"Did that guy suddenly disappear?"
"Yes, my lord. He disappeared in an instant after he walked into the alley."
"Looks like it's Fraxinus's teleportation mechanism. No wonder they're such a big organization. Alright, let's go rest."
"Yes."
The next day
"Kurumi was late on her second day after transferring schools."
Yagami Tohka stared at Tokisaki Kurumi's seat, her tone full of dissatisfaction.
"She's not coming."
A calm voice came from the side; it was Origami Tobiichi speaking.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
Yatogami Tohka tilted her head cutely.
"It means exactly what it says. Tokisaki Kurumi is no longer coming to school."
Origami Tobiichi didn't turn around, and continued speaking with a blank expression.
"You clearly said you had to let me know if you were absent."
Today, Ms. Xiaozhu took attendance. Ms. Hiratsuka Shizuka is absent today, supposedly because she went to a blind date last night and got a hangover. Actually, Ms. Hiratsuka Shizuka is quite attractive, has a great figure, and earns a good salary, but for some reason, she doesn't have a boyfriend.
"Have."
Suddenly, a loud sound came from the back of the classroom.
Opening the back door of the classroom, there stood gracefully, none other than Tokisaki Kurumi, with a gentle smile on her face and her hand slightly raised.
"Really, Tokisaki-san. You're late."
"I'm so sorry. I suddenly felt unwell on my way to school."
"Huh? Are you alright? Should we go to the infirmary?"
"No, I'm fine now. I'm sorry to have worried you."
Kurumi Tokisaki bowed slightly, then walked back to her seat with light steps.
At that moment, Origami Tobiichi was staring intently at Kurumi Tokisaki.
Chang Yan turned his head back when he saw this.
(It seems Mana already defeated Tokisaki Kurumi's clone yesterday. But what's wrong with the people from DEM and AST? After defeating Tokisaki Kurumi's clones so many times, haven't they figured out her ability yet?)
As the lunch bell rang, Itsuka Shido walked out of the classroom under the resentful gaze of Yatogami Tohka. His three friends, Ai, Mai, and Mii, rushed to comfort him, scolding him for heartlessly abandoning Yatogami Tohka. Meanwhile, Origami Tobiichi left with Tokisaki Kurumi. To onlookers, it seemed that Itsuka Shido's harem was about to begin vying for supremacy.
(However, it was Origami Tobiichi who was cornered against the wall by Kurumi Tokisaki and almost got... well, you know.)
(Tomorrow is the school's founding anniversary, and the school will have a day off, which means—)
(Kurumi Tokisaki will attack Shido Itsuka at the school the day after tomorrow. Just ask for leave if you don't have any system missions.)
Just as Chang Yan was thinking this, the system gave him a task, but it wasn't about Tokisaki Kurumi.
(New task issued)
Task 4: Witness the Real Price
Everything has a price. So what is the price for witnessing the truth? Although the werewolf cleaned up the scene very well, there are still many ways to track you, or rather, your followers.
Kill all the enemies who are after you
Upon seeing this task, Chang Yan frowned.
(The price of witnessing the truth? I remember my first mission was called Witnessing the Truth. It seems to be related to the female ghoul I killed. But I remember that female ghoul was incredibly weak; the enhancement she gave me was less than half of what the ghoul with the kagune provided. If it's related, why was she so weak?)
Although the mission indicated there was more than one enemy, Chang Yan believed that most of those targeting him were ghouls. While these purely physical creatures posed little threat to the Annihilation Eye, Chang Yan still dared not be careless and immediately asked for leave to go home.
On his way home, Chang Yan wanted to check if anyone was following him, but he was disappointed to find that he had no knowledge of counter-surveillance techniques. He looked around but couldn't detect anything unusual. He bought a lot of canned food and bottled water to minimize his chances of going out.
Upon returning home, Chang Yan immediately drew all the curtains and had Jack and Warwick patrol the area, focusing on whether anyone came out of the forest.
On the other side, in that cemetery filled with deathly silence and tranquility, three figures stood quietly.
Thank you for the donation, Borea.
Chapter Twenty-One: Witnessing the Price of Reality (2)
A man and a young girl stood there, watching a figure in a robe chanting incantations and occasionally throwing out strange-looking objects. A moment later, a transparent figure appeared, staring blankly at the group.
Upon seeing the transparent figure appear, the person in the robe couldn't help but laugh.
"It seems she died here. My divination was right. Now things are much easier. Departed one, tell me, who killed you?"
Upon hearing the question from the person in the robe, the transparent, mechanical-looking figure replied...
"A boy with bright red eyes, not very old, and in great shape."
Bright red eyes?
After a moment's hesitation, the person in the robe continued to ask questions.
How did he kill you?
"He tore it apart with his bare hands."
Seemingly startled by the answer, the person in the robe and the couple beside him froze, while the man, seemingly unable to accept the answer, shouted...
"Tear a ghoul apart with bare hands? Even though my sister is weak, she's still a ghoul. To be torn apart with bare hands... how can I possibly believe that?"
As he continued, the man's voice lowered.
It's not that I don't believe it, but that I dare not.
A creature with a humanoid form, capable of tearing ghouls apart with its bare hands, and possessing crimson eyes, it is only a high-ranking demon or a high-ranking vampire. Even if ten more of these creatures came, it wouldn't be a match for it; they would just be easy prey.
At this moment, the person in the robe thought for a moment, then asked the transparent figure again.
Is there anything special about those eyes?
“There was a red cross in his eyes.”
cross?
Now, the person in the robe was completely confused.
With red eyes and the superhuman strength to tear ghouls apart, it should be a demon or a vampire, but these two races hate crosses, so it shouldn't be like that.
Could it be a holy mark? The person in the robe thought of another possibility, then shook their head, rejecting the idea.
If it really is a Stigmata, how could the ghoul's soul have been summoned? It must have been either purified or destroyed; there's no other possibility.
This is strange.
Seemingly remembering something, the man in the robe turned around, hesitated for a moment, and then spoke to the other two.
"Don't be so pessimistic. It shouldn't be those big shots who did it. Based on my speculation, the person who killed your sister should be a user of the Mystic Eye, probably one with tearing properties. However, it should be a newly awakened one. If it had been awakened for a long time, it would only take one glare to tear your sister in half, so don't worry too much."
Hearing the words of the man in the robe, the man perked up again, looked at the man excitedly, and thanked him.
"Then it is truly a great trouble for you, Venerable Master."
"It's alright, I'm just doing someone else's job for the money. Your partner is a werewolf, right? Let her sniff around and see if she can detect anything."
The woman immediately bristled as soon as she finished speaking.
"How many times have I told you, I am a noble werewolf, not a dog! Why do you always get confused! Although my sense of smell is very developed, that's all."
"Liannie, could you please help me?"
Seeing her companion's pleading eyes, Leni hesitated for a moment, then reluctantly agreed.
"Okay, I promise you. But so much time has passed, I can't guarantee I'll be able to smell anything, so be prepared."
"Thank you, Leni."
Two wolf ears sprouted from Leni's head, her green eyes gleamed with a wild light, and she lowered her head to sniff.
After a while, Leni stood up, and the man quickly walked up to her and asked nervously.
"Liannie, how is it? Any leads?"
Leni looked at the ground beneath her feet, a look of confusion on her face.
“There are clues, but… um… something’s strange. I smell four different scents here. One is the gravedigger’s, one is your sister’s. The remaining two are human, and the other… seems to be my kind, also a werewolf.”
"Werewolves? Why would this be related to werewolves? What do you think, Master Mage?"
The monk pondered for a moment, then shook his head.
“I can’t figure out why there are werewolves here either. After all, not many werewolves like to eat rotting human flesh. They’re probably just passing by. Alright, you lead the way.”
Leni walked to the big tree where Chang Yan had once hidden, sniffed her nose, looked at the monk, and hesitated before speaking.
"Huh? What's wrong?"
Leni looked at the mage and stammered...
"Well, um... the smell is strongest here, and then... then I can't smell it anymore. Too much time has passed, the scent has dissipated..."
We've just found a lead, are we about to lose it all?
Although the man understood Leni's abilities, he still grew anxious and asked the mage...
"Master, please make a move."
The monk's face was completely obscured by his hood, but his calm words reached the man's ears.
You pay for the materials.
The sorcerer began chanting the mysterious incantation again, and incomprehensible language rapidly flowed from his mouth. At the same time, strange objects emerged from his sleeves.
A magical light emanated from the mage, and instantly, footprints emitting a faint glow appeared on the ground.
Seeing this, the man marveled at the sorcerer's mystique.
"As expected of the Mage, truly amazing."
"It's just a small trick, let's go."
The magistrate remained unmoved by the man's words, his tone still calm and composed. Then, he looked up and saw only a purple figure.
It seems we should be careful.
The words flashed through the monk's mind, and he silently moved his lips.
The mages are all proud, provided they are still alive.
I'm going to my maternal grandfather's house to pay New Year's respects. There's no computer there, so this is my first time trying a scheduled post. If anything goes wrong, don't blame me; go find the scapegoat department.
