Chapter 19: Jensen's Impotent Rage!
Chapter 19: Jensen's Impotent Rage!
Portland, Rose Garden Arena.
In the corridor outside the locker room, several staff members were gathered together, whispering about the hottest topic of the past two days—Qin Yu!
"Tom, did you see the team's intra-squad scrimmage today? Oden actually defended LaMarcus for three consecutive possessions!"
The speaker was Mickey, the venue manager. He was holding a stack of towels, leaning against the wall, and had an exaggerated expression on his face.
"I saw it." Tom, who was in charge of equipment management, pushed up his glasses and clicked his tongue. "The key is the speed of his lateral movement when he's covering for his opponent. It's nothing like someone who just had knee surgery a little over a month ago. I've been in this business for twelve years and I've never seen such a recovery speed."
"I've never even heard of him, let alone seen him before." Mickey chuckled and said mysteriously, "I heard that when the medical team was evaluating him yesterday, those old men's eyes almost popped out of their sockets. They were so anxious they almost knelt down before Qin Yu, crying and begging him to join their medical team."
"It can't be that exaggerated, can it?" Tom didn't believe it. He looked around to make sure no one was in the corridor before lowering his voice, "I don't know if the medical team is in a hurry. But Jason is definitely extremely anxious right now. Qin is the team's star player now, and he probably won't be able to get revenge for that slap back then."
"He deserved it!" Mickey scoffed. "Calling someone a 'yellow-skinned monkey' in public, who could tolerate that? Doesn't he treat us like slaves all the time? He thinks he's so great just because he's the head trainer. Now he's a laughingstock. Qin's slap at least got everyone's revenge."
The two were engrossed in their conversation and did not notice a figure standing quietly at the corner at the end of the corridor.
Jay-Jansen's figure was half-hidden in the shadows, his hands clenched into fists, his knuckles turning bluish-white from the force, his face flushed like a pig's liver, and the veins on his forehead throbbing.
He wanted to curse, but he held back.
Because what those people said... was true.
Since Oden's recovery was confirmed, the team's attitude towards him has changed.
Payne no longer supported him as before. In fact, when he tried to cause trouble for Qin Yu, Payne gave him a light reprimand twice, warning him not to cause trouble for Qin Yu, not to interfere with Oden's rehabilitation training, and to do his job properly.
My main job?
He's the team's chief trainer!
In the past, he was the one who made all the decisions regarding the team's rehabilitation plans and training arrangements.
Now, with a simple "don't interfere," he has been completely removed from Oden's rehabilitation efforts.
This is not finished.
Yesterday, after news broke that Oden had passed the medical team's examination and was cleared to participate in all training sessions, he noticed that when the other team members saw him, they no longer surrounded him to flatter him as before. They would simply greet him briefly and then lower their heads to continue with their work.
Everything seems to have changed overnight!
"Damn yellow-skinned monkeys!" Jason cursed under his breath, but ultimately ignored the two staff members and walked into the training hall with a livid face, preparing to call on the players to train as usual. He planned to personally guide the rehabilitation training of several injured players.
However, the next moment, he was shocked to find that the players had all disappeared.
Jason called over another strength and conditioning coach, Green, and asked with a dark expression, "What happened? Where are they? Where did Nicholas (Nicolas Batum) and the others go?"
Green hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but then stopped.
"I'm asking you, where did they go?" Jason roared.
"They all went to find Qin." Green no longer hid it.
Now, Jason was furious.
He really wanted to rush over and teach those people a lesson, especially that yellow-skinned monkey.
But times change.
He used to be able to bully Qin Yu at will because the other party was just an insignificant "rookie," an intern earning a meager salary.
But now, Qin Yu has cured Oden, the whole team is talking about him, Payne has given him a raise, and the players trust him.
And what about him, Jason?
The team's head trainer?
fart!
What Qin Yu held in his hand was Oden's "miracle of recovery," a set of miraculous "traditional Chinese medicine treatments" that had astonished the medical team—things that Jensen did not possess.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!"
For a moment, anger, jealousy, resentment, and an inexplicable fear surged in Jason's heart, threatening to overwhelm him, leaving him only with impotent rage.
……
Meanwhile, Nicolas Batum, one of the team's injured players, contacted Qin Yu. He underwent right shoulder surgery last October and was expected to be sidelined for five months. He is currently still in the recovery phase.
Batum's eyes were eager and expectant: "Qin, can we talk to you?"
Qin Yu nodded: "Okay, what's up?"
Batum rubbed his hands together, trying to make his tone more polite and courteous, and said, "Um... could you help me create a rehabilitation plan as well?"
Before Qin Yu could answer, another person approached. It was Jeff Pandegraf, the team's power forward, who had undergone hip surgery last September and was expected to be sidelined for three months.
Then, one player after another arrived.
Small forward Travis Outlaw underwent surgery for a fractured left foot last November and is expected to be sidelined for 3-5 months.
Defender Wayne Fernandez suffered a sciatic nerve injury last December and is expected to be sidelined for a month.
Center Joel Prtzbila suffered a dislocated patella and a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee last December, ending his season.
Finally, guard Brandon Roy arrived. He suffered a right hamstring strain in January and is still recovering, but is expected to return after the All-Star Weekend.
Seeing that so many people had already arrived, Roy was taken aback. His gaze swept across everyone's faces, then fixed on Jeff Pendergraf and Rudy Fernandez, and he said irritably, "Weren't your injuries already healed? What are you doing here?"
Jeff Pendergraf gave an awkward laugh: "The team doctor said I'm fully recovered, but you know how it is, I don't really trust them, so..."
This left Roy speechless, but to be honest, he didn't trust the team's medical staff either, so he said with a straight face, "You're not in a hurry, so go to the back of the line."
With the team leader speaking up, and since none of the others were in a hurry, Jeff Pendergraf and Rudy Fernandez exchanged a glance and moved to the back of the crowd.
Roy looked at Qin Yu and said, "Qin, could you help me develop a rehabilitation plan, like Oden's? I can pay extra for it, like a private rehabilitation consultant."
Upon hearing this, others chimed in, expressing their willingness to pay extra in exchange for Qin Yu's guidance in rehabilitation training so they could return to the competition as soon as possible.
Seeing everyone's anxious expressions, Qin Yu sighed inwardly. He could understand their feelings. What athletes fear most is not losing, nor a decline in performance, but the long wait—that kind of recovery period with no end in sight, which is enough to wear down a person's will and confidence.
He had experienced this kind of torment before!
only......
"I'm really sorry." Qin Yu sighed softly and shook his head, saying, "Greg hasn't officially returned yet. His rehabilitation plan is still in a critical stage, and I don't have the extra energy or time for him at the moment."
Upon hearing this, the anticipation on everyone's faces instantly dimmed.
Roy opened his mouth, wanting to try again, but Qin Yu stopped him with a raised hand: "I know you're anxious, but my energy is really limited. You all know Greg's injury, and I have to make sure he's 100% recovered and back on the court. This is also very important for the team, so for now... I can only apologize."
This statement was reasonable, and although everyone was disappointed, they could not refute it. Moreover, Qin Yu did not make a definitive statement, leaving room for maneuver.
Roy gave a wry smile: "We were too hasty, I'm sorry, Qin."
Batum forced a smile through his grimaces and said, "It's alright, we'll talk to you again after you've finished with Greg's business."
A group of people left, feeling disappointed.
Soon, Oden ran over. He glanced in the direction Roy and the others had left, frowned, and asked, "Qin, why didn't you help them?"
"It's not the right time yet." Qin Yu shook his head, his tone becoming serious. "Greg, if only one of me and Jason could stay, who would the management choose?"
