Chapter 566 The Function of the Room of Requirement
"Who, Dumbledore?"
Xilun's words caused a brief silence around them, and everyone looked over in disbelief.
"What, didn't I tell you?" Xilun blinked and asked.
"Absolutely not!" everyone said in unison.
"Alright," said Sirius. "The person waiting for me in the Great Hall isn't Snape with the Time-Turner, but Dumbledore, he—"
At this point, Xiren paused slightly, and after a few seconds continued, "He asked me some questions and, incidentally, gave me a very special Apparition lesson."
"A special Apparition class—what does that mean?" Ron asked curiously.
"It's something that most people rarely have," Siren told them about the Pensieve.
After hearing this, the three of them immediately showed an envious expression, and even Harry temporarily forgot what he had seen in Snape's memories.
"You mean, you've become a young Dumbledore?" Ron's voice unconsciously rose considerably.
"It wasn't that I became a young Dumbledore," Sirius explained. "I just experienced a part of his memory from that time."
"That's already quite remarkable," Hermione said with a hint of envy. "That's Dumbledore, after all."
Suddenly, the fact that Xilun had learned Apparition made perfect sense.
After the initial surprise, everyone's attention returned to Harry.
"Me too, pretty much," Harry said, forcing a smile. "Snape thought I had grasped the basic rules and could learn the rest on my own."
Hermione was still a little suspicious, but Harry made an excuse that he was too sleepy, rubbed his eyes, and went straight back to his dormitory to sleep.
Hermione and Ron knew Harry was lying, but he refused to say anything, so there was nothing they could do.
As for Siron, he was still thinking about the Room of Requirement. While Hermione was checking Ron's paper, he secretly left the common room.
With five minutes left before curfew, most of the students in the library had returned, and the dimly lit corridors were deserted.
Looking down, one can vaguely see a faint yellow light in the third-floor corridor; it is Filch patrolling the castle with an oil lamp.
Since Filch is on the third floor, things become much simpler.
Siren quickened his pace, passed through two corridors, and stopped in front of a particular tapestry.
On the tapestry, a person is trying to teach a troll to dance ballet, but is instead beaten up by the troll with a wooden stick.
Xiren looked at the clean, tidy wall opposite the tapestry, took a deep breath, and began pacing back and forth along the corridor, thinking to himself, "I need a place where I can apparite—I need a place where I can apparite—"
'
As he passed the wall for the third time, a door appeared on the wall that had previously been empty.
Xilun turned the doorknob and went inside.
Inside was a large room, similar to an auditorium, but without the extra tables and chairs. Instead, there was a large three-tiered wooden shelf on the left wall near the entrance.
The top row is filled with various books, all related to Apparition.
"A Beginner's Guide to Apparition", "Common Mistakes in Apparition and How to Avoid Them", "Apparition,
Portkeys and Floo: The Theory and Practice of Spatial Teleportation Magic ———
The second row is full of white umami essence, dozens of bottles, enough to last even if it's split hundreds of times.
Xilun opened one of the bottles and took a look. Although the bottles looked old, the white succinate inside was very fresh and ready to use.
And on the very bottom shelf, which is what Xiren finds most incomprehensible, are various trinkets: markers, plush toys, miniature Muggle mailboxes, and normal Muggle mailboxes.
Further on, in the empty room, there is a special mark every ten feet or so.
With a thought, Xilun turned around and pointed his wand.
"A mailbox flew in."
A normal Muggle mailbox slowly flew over and was placed by Celen on one of the more distant markers.
Then Siren stepped back to the door, closed his eyes, and recalled the feeling in the Pensieve and the appearance of the mailbox.
In an instant, the surrounding air became viscous, followed by a dizzying sensation.
However, when Xiren opened his eyes again, he was already standing next to the mailbox.
Success! Apparition is indeed possible in this room.
Xilun was delighted and immediately used the Summoning Spell to place more things around him.
In general, at least two people should be present when practicing Apparition, since the separation of the body is unpredictable and anything can happen. Having an extra person to help makes it easier to reassemble the body.
Then apply white essence.
However, Xilun has already successfully Apparated two or three times, so there's almost no possibility of him splitting into two bodies, and there's no need for such trouble.
What he needs most now is practice, lots of practice, until he can cast the magic instinctively without having to consciously search for the feeling.
The next day, when Harry saw Cyron in the Great Hall, he was almost startled by his appearance.
His face was pale, with faint dark circles under his eyes, making him look extremely listless. He walked unsteadily, as if he might fall at any moment, and his messy hair was disheveled, making him look almost exactly like himself.
"What did you do last night?" Harry asked hastily, as it was the first time he had ever seen Siron so unkempt.
Xilen didn't answer, but just yawned and poured himself a large cup of unsweetened hot cocoa.
This new drink provided by the house-elves was probably the best decision he made this school year; its bitter taste finally cheered him up a bit.
"You didn't go out for a night stroll, did you?" Hermione looked at Siron with suspicion.
"Of course not," Siren said.
Nighttime wandering refers to sneaking out of the dormitory at night without sleeping and returning before dawn.
But he didn't go home all night yesterday, so it definitely doesn't count as a night out.
From last night until early this morning, he had been practicing Apparition in the Room of Requirement.
Originally, Siron hadn't planned to practice for this long. Dumbledore had also said that Apparition requires more rest than most magic.
There was no clock in the House of Requirement, so there was no way to tell the time. By the time Xilun realized this, it was already dawn. After the initial novelty wore off, he felt like his head was about to split open, and his body was shaking uncontrollably.
But it's not without its advantages.
At least now when he Apparates, he no longer needs to consciously recall anything, which can be considered as completing the first step of the practice.
