Chapter 6 Illusory Realm
Chapter 6 Illusory Realm
"Bang!"
The loud crash and the sound of glass shattering woke Lin Yue.
She looked around blankly, then suddenly realized that Lin Yuan was gone from the hospital bed. She instantly snapped out of it, ran into the bathroom following the sound, and saw Lin Yuan standing in front of the sink.
His face was contorted in a grotesque expression, and the mirror on the sink in front of him was shattered into pieces.
His right hand, hanging by his side, was clenched into a fist, which was covered with tiny cuts and dripped blood.
"Brother! Don't scare me!"
Lin Yue rushed forward and forcefully hugged Lin Yuan's injured right fist into her arms. Her body and voice were trembling violently, filled with deep fear and unease.
Lin Yuan lowered his head, looking at his younger sister who was like a frightened deer. He forced a smile, trying to suppress the nagging opera singing in his head. "I'm fine. Did I scare you?"
No, no.
Lin Yue was terrified, but she dared not provoke Lin Yuan any further, and she forced a smile as well.
This girl!
Lin Yuan sighed inwardly, but dared not stay there any longer, and hurriedly pulled Lin Yue away from the restroom.
When he reached the door, he glanced back and saw that among the scattered shards of glass on the floor, there seemed to be pairs of eerie eyes still staring at him.
Damn it!
Lin Yuan clenched his right fist again, his body tensing up from the extreme force.
"elder brother……"
Lin Yue's soft and concerned voice rang out again, briefly rousing Lin Yuan from his unease. "I'm sorry, I... I'm fine."
"Yeah, I believe you, bro."
Breaking hospital property requires compensation. Even if Lin Yuan's former company was considerate of its employees, it wouldn't compensate for such financial losses.
Fortunately, a piece of glass doesn't cost much, and with Lin Yuan's savings over the years, he wouldn't be bothered by such a small amount of money.
After experiencing such an incident, the nurses looked at him more and more like they were looking at a lunatic, and even the doctors who came to check on him were probing his mental state.
Judging from their expressions, they clearly wanted to send Lin Yuan to a mental hospital.
To deal with these people, Lin Yuan had to suppress the strange opera-like irritability and unease in his mind. With his own strength and the guarantee of his relative Lin Yue, he was finally discharged from the hospital.
"Brother, I'm planning to ask for a few days off from school to come back and take care of you."
Back at the rented apartment, even though Lin Yuan didn't "relapse," Lin Yue was still completely worried.
Lin Yuan quickly refused, "No need, I've just been under too much work pressure lately, plus anxiety about leaving my job. I'll be fine after a period of rest. What, don't you trust your brother?"
"But..." Lin Yue said anxiously.
"There's no 'but' about it, little sister. You're at a crucial stage right now. You can't let something like this interfere with your studies, understand?" Lin Yuan said earnestly.
Lin Yue retorted, "My brother's matter is no small thing!"
"Yes, yes, but your brother is fine, isn't he? The doctor said that my illness is psychological. If you stay, I might worry and my condition might worsen."
After much persuasion, Lin Yue finally relented, but still decided to stay overnight to see how things went.
Lin Yuan knew this was his sister's bottom line, so he agreed. Fortunately, he rented a suite, which was only a one-bedroom apartment. He could still manage to sleep on the sofa while his sister slept in the bedroom.
Lin Yue didn't want to sleep in the bed and wanted Lin Yuan, the patient, to rest more, but Lin Yuan forcefully "suppressed" her.
In the dead of night, Lin Yuan couldn't fall asleep.
The eerie opera in his mind persisted, as did the image of "himself" clearly wearing theatrical makeup in the mirror when he looked in it... All these signs indicated that everything he encountered in his dream had come to reality with him.
But how could that be?
"This is not the Mysterious Resurrection, and I did not time travel. I just have narcolepsy. How could I possibly bring the supernatural curses from the Mysterious Resurrection worldview I constructed in my dream into reality?"
Am I still dreaming, or am I truly ill and unable to distinguish between dreams and reality?
Lin Yuan's mood grew increasingly agitated. He picked up his phone to check related information, but what he found only made him more anxious and uneasy:
Paranoia!
A serious mental illness in which patients hold strong beliefs that are inconsistent with reality. One of the symptoms of the illness is hallucinations, including visual and auditory hallucinations.
The patient may perceive things that are not present!
"So I'm already experiencing visual and auditory hallucinations?"
Lin Yuan felt heavy-hearted, but he was clear about his current symptoms. Even though he didn't know the cause, he breathed a slight sigh of relief and then looked at the treatment plan.
Acute treatment, including medication, psychological, and behavioral therapy, can control hallucinations and delusional symptoms.
There are also physical therapy, surgical treatment, and traditional Chinese medicine treatments, such as electroconvulsive therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, biofeedback therapy, herbal medicine, and acupuncture...
"Try taking some medication first; the same goes for narcolepsy."
Exiting the search page, Lin Yuan was about to open the food delivery app when his phone screen suddenly went black.
Lin Yuan's reflection appeared on the dark screen, and the "Lin Yuan" in the reflection was clearly the one with theatrical makeup on the left half of his face.
On and off the screen, the two Lin Yuans stared at each other.
The next moment, Lin Yuan suddenly felt a strong drowsiness come over him, and his eyelids closed unconsciously.
But he was still somewhat conscious, and quickly reached out and pinched himself.
A sharp, stinging pain shot through his arm. He opened his eyes abruptly, only to find that the phone screen in his hand was still lit up, and there was no "himself" wearing makeup at all.
"Is it still just an illusion?"
Lin Yuan took a deep breath, recalling the names of the medicines he had noted down. Just as he was about to place an order on the online shopping app, he discovered that the address on the app was gone.
This had happened before, so he didn't think much of it and turned on his phone's location services to prepare to re-enter the address.
However, when he saw the location that was automatically located, he froze on the spot:
Dachang City?!
"I...I'm back again?"
In my mind, the opera sounds that had become blurred after waking up became clear again, along with the faint singing.
He touched his left cheek, then looked around.
It was still the same room as his, and there were no signs of decay; everything was as usual.
"Little sister!"
Lin Yuan suddenly stood up and rushed into the bedroom. He saw his younger sister sitting on the bed playing on her phone, but her back was to him because of the angle.
This scene did not relax Lin Yuan; instead, it made his face turn ashen.
This is a fantasy dream he had because of narcolepsy, how could his little sister be dragged into it too?
But given the current situation, he doesn't dare to gamble.
"Little sister? Little sister?"
