My God, this is really going to be a disaster.
Chu Hang felt his heart was about to jump out of his throat, but then a cold hand forcefully shoved it back in, making it hard for him to breathe.
On the left is Captain America running for his life, followed by a long line of howling Hydra pursuers. Gunshots, explosions, and roars are mixed together, like a moving rock concert, except the instrument being played is death.
On the right was the "hound" that emerged from the darkness like a ghost. He stood there quietly, without saying a word, but the chilling and murderous aura emanating from his very bones was more frightening than the entire symphony orchestra on the left combined.
What do you call this? It's like being surrounded by wolves in front, tigers behind, and two little white rabbits that are about to freeze to death in the middle.
Chu Hang's brain started working frantically at that moment.
The western ridge is about 800 meters away. Captain America runs extremely fast, and considering the snow and complex terrain, it would probably take him about a minute and a half to get here. His pursuers are about 100 meters behind him and will arrive a dozen seconds later.
The "hounds" downstream were less than fifty meters away! He wasn't walking fast, but that was intentional. With the explosive power of such an elite agent, how long would it take to sprint fifty meters at full speed?
Five seconds? Or three seconds?
Damn it, even if it's just a few seconds, it's still faster than Captain America!
It's over, I've lost this gamble. Chu Hang's heart sank to the bottom. His carefully planned scheme to make the two floods collide and then fish in troubled waters was completely ruined because of those damned few seconds of time difference.
The situation has now become such that the perverted butcher will arrive at the "kitchen" before the reinforcements arrive, and then calmly and methodically clean up these two "main dishes".
"Gabe, prepare to fight to the death." Chu Hang's voice was extremely low, almost squeezed out from between his teeth. He gripped the MP40 submachine gun he had taken from the Hydra soldier tightly in his hand; the cold touch of the steel was his only support at this moment.
Gabu didn't answer, but Chu Hang could feel that his body, which was almost ready to give up, tensed up again. When faced with certain death, people either completely collapse or unleash a final burst of madness.
Downstream, the man known as "the Hound" moved.
He didn't rush over as Chu Hang had expected. Instead, he walked with the elegance of someone attending a banquet, slowly and deliberately, towards the reeds where they had previously hidden. His gaze remained fixed on that area, and a faint, mocking smile even played on his lips.
He was enjoying the process.
He was like a top-notch bomb disposal expert admiring a rookie's flawed bomb.
Closer, closer.
Chu-Hang's palms were sweaty, and his index finger was already on the MP40's trigger. He knew that if the other person took two more steps forward, they would step on the tripwire he had made from shoelaces.
Although that thing definitely won't kill him, it can at least blast him into a mess, giving them a moment's chance!
However, the "hound" stopped less than half a meter away from the thin tripwire.
He stopped there, tilting his head slightly, looking with great interest at the thin rope that was almost invisible in the cold wind, his eyes filled with contempt, as if he were watching a childish prank.
Chu Hang's heart clenched once again. This guy's observational skills were practically abnormally sharp!
The "hound" slowly raised its foot, seemingly wanting to crush the rudimentary device and shatter Chu Hang and his companions' last hope.
But in that very instant he lifted his foot!
"call out--!"
A sharp, piercing sound suddenly came from the direction of the western ridge!
Immediately afterwards, a round shield with red, white and blue stripes, carrying an unparalleled momentum, spun and roared like a cannonball, and smashed down hard!
Its target was not the "hound" or Chu Hang and his group, but a birch tree as thick as a bowl to the side and rear of the "hound"!
A deafening clang of metal clashing!
The shield unleashed tremendous kinetic energy the moment it struck the tree trunk, sending splinters flying as it bounced back at an incredible angle! And the direction of its rebound was precisely towards the "hound's" back!
This turn of events happened too quickly and too suddenly!
Even the "hunting hounds" were completely caught off guard!
His previously relaxed and composed demeanor vanished instantly, replaced by a beast-like, instinctive reaction. Almost instinctively, he abandoned his attempt to step on the tripwire, twisting his body sharply to the side at an angle that defied the laws of physics!
The shield flew past him, barely grazing his back, and slammed into the frozen ground behind him, splashing up a large patch of cold mud.
Although he dodged a fatal blow, the violent force from the shield still caused him to stagger, his body lurching forward uncontrollably.
And the direction he fell was exactly where Chu Hang had set up the tripwire!
The hound's pupils suddenly contracted to the size of pinpoints! He tried to stop himself, but it was too late!
His military boots stomped hard on the thin shoelace.
The shoelace snapped instantly.
The pull ring connected to the fuse was pulled out instantly.
Chu Hang roared in his heart: Now!
"boom--!!!"
An earth-shattering bang!
The immense power of C4 explosives was unleashed in that instant! Orange-red flames, mixed with thick black smoke and shattered ice, snow, and soil, created a terrifying shockwave that swept wildly in all directions!
The entire riverbank seemed to tremble violently!
The arrogant "hound" didn't even have time to groan before the sudden explosion sent him flying. He tumbled twice in the air like a tattered sack before crashing heavily into the nearby icy river with a "plop."
All of this, from the moment the shield flew in to the moment the explosion occurred, may sound slow, but it actually happened within a second or two!
It happened so fast that no one had time to react!
Chu Hang and Gabu stared in disbelief at the dramatic scene unfolding before them, their minds completely blank.
They... succeeded?
No, it wasn't that they succeeded.
It's that man, he's here!
Chu Hang suddenly turned his head and looked to the west.
A tall, imposing figure emerged from the chaotic woods. He wore a tight-fitting blue, white, and red combat suit, a white five-pointed star on his chest gleaming in the firelight. His face was covered in gunpowder and mud, his breathing was rapid, and his eyes were filled with exhaustion, but his straight back was like an unyielding javelin!
Captain America, Steve Rogers!
He is finally here!
He was three seconds later than the "hound," but his shield was three seconds faster!
It was those three extra seconds that saved Chu Hang and Gabu's lives!
Just as Chu Hang was stunned, Captain America's loud and urgent roar came over.
Immediately afterwards, a hail of bullets, like a hailstorm, swept towards their hiding place! It was Hydra soldiers chasing after them!
Chu Hang jolted awake and quickly pulled Gabu, pressing their bodies tightly against the rock.
The bullets struck the rocks, sending sparks flying and shards of rock flying everywhere, stinging my face.
Utter chaos!
Captain America ran ahead, searching for cover, while Hydra soldiers relentlessly pursued and fired upon him. Meanwhile, "Hound," who had been blown into the river, was left to die an unknown fate.
This small riverbank was instantly transformed into a meat grinder!
Chu Hang's eyes shone with an alarming light at that moment!
That's exactly the kind of chaos he wants!
Instead of hiding any longer, he suddenly poked half his body out from behind the rock and raised his MP40 submachine gun.
His target was neither Captain America nor the Hydra soldiers who were pursuing him.
He immediately noticed that there were three Hydra soldiers in the woods on the flank, attempting to outflank Captain America!
"Captain! To your right! Three of them!"
Chu Hang mustered all his strength and roared in English!
Almost at the same time as his roar, the MP40 in his hand also spat out angry flames!
"Da da da da da!"
A burst of bullets was accurately sprayed over!
He wasn't expecting to hit anyone; all he wanted was to use the gunshots and bullet trajectories to mark the enemy's location for Captain America!
Captain America, who was seeking cover in a shell crater, clearly heard his shout. Almost without hesitation, he rolled on the ground, picked up the shield that had just been smashed into the dirt, and without thinking, hurled it in the direction Chu Hang had warned him!
"Clang! Clang! Ah!"
The shield traced a graceful arc through the trees, accompanied by two muffled metallic clangs and a piercing scream, before flying back into Captain America's hand.
The three Hydra soldiers who attempted to flank the enemy were instantly silenced.
Captain America, shield in one hand, crouched in the crater, his eyes sharp as lightning. For the first time, he formally cast a complex look at Chu Hang, a mixture of surprise, wariness, and a hint of gratitude.
The battle has just begun!
Chapter 19 Captain America
A wisp of smoke was still rising from the muzzle of the gun.
Dozens of meters away, the man in the crater was quietly watching Chu Hang.
That gaze was like a knife, slicing through the air and through him as well. Chu Hang felt as if that person had seen right through him, inside and out.
That's Captain America, Steve Rogers.
He was right there, alive and well. Not some moral paragon in a movie, nor an idol in a propaganda poster. He was a soldier who had just fought his way out of a hail of bullets.
His face was covered in gunpowder and mud, his blond hair soaked with sweat and snow, clinging to his forehead. His chest heaved violently, each breath sending up puffs of white mist. His eyes held weariness, vigilance, but above all, an iron will.
This guy is the real deal.
Chu Hang had only one thought in his mind. Before, when he watched him on screen, he only thought he was good at fighting. Now, face to face, he felt the aura that could hold up an entire battle line by himself.
"Hey! Newbie! What are you spacing out for! Want to die?!"
Captain America's roar snapped Chu Hang out of his daze.
A new wave of bullets rained down. More Hydra soldiers charged down the ridge, their firepower even more intense than before.
Chu Hang jolted awake, instantly pulling his head back behind the rock. He cursed under his breath, almost forgetting that this was a battlefield.
"Gabe! Cover me!" Chu Hang shouted behind him, then rolled over and slid across the other side of the rock.
He couldn't hide any longer. Captain America had drawn the enemy's fire, and he had to seize this opportunity. His fighting instincts were urging him to fight, to tear the enemy apart.
