Chapter 19 The Shy Tang Wutong
Chapter 19 The Shy Tang Wutong
The shadows in the forest seemed to be parted by an invisible hand, and a massive black shadow slowly emerged, each step causing the ground to tremble slightly. It was a shadow leopard, entirely black, its size comparable to that of an adult tiger. Its glossy fur, as if soaked in ink, gleamed with a cold light in the dappled shadows. Its limbs were muscular, every line exuding explosive power. Its pair of eerie green eyes, like two will-o'-the-wisps, were fixed on the two children, no more than six years old, before it. Saliva dripped from the corners of its mouth, leaving damp patches on the grass. The low growls rumbled from its throat like muffled thunder, making no attempt to conceal its greed, seeing them as its prey.
Zi Lingtian's brows furrowed instantly.
Something's not right. How could there be such ferocious soul beasts in the God Realm? Although this place is on the outskirts of the core area, it's definitely not a place where wild soul beasts can run rampant. The priests have always maintained order and discipline; such aggressive beings should be kept in designated taming areas.
But he didn't have time to think about it further.
The shadow leopard arched its back suddenly, like a black longbow poised to be drawn, its front paws lightly scratching the ground, stirring up a few crushed pieces of spiritual grass—a signal that it was about to pounce.
Tang Wutong had already gotten up from the ground. Although her large, pinkish-blue eyes were filled with tension, she did not flinch. She stood firmly beside Zi Lingtian, and the wings of the Goddess of Light Butterfly unfolded again. Although the tips of the wings were still trembling slightly, she had already assumed a defensive posture. Pink and blue scales surrounded her, like a fragile yet stubborn halo.
"Lingtian, let's do it together—"
Before she finished speaking, the shadow leopard had already moved.
The speed was beyond imagination; the black figure transformed into a blurry bolt of lightning, tearing through the air and rushing towards them with a stench. Sharp claws reflected a chilling light in the sunlight, their target fixed on Zi Lingtian standing before them.
Zi Lingtian remained completely still.
He suddenly turned to the side, pulled Tang Wutong behind him, and took half a step forward. He raised his right hand, and purple-gold light surged wildly in his palm, as if countless tiny stars were exploding within it.
The phantom of the Scepter of Destruction solidified behind him, and the ancient runes engraved on its shaft lit up one by one, like a colossal beast awakening and opening its eyes. In an instant, the pressure of the Law of Destruction swept over the entire spirit plant forest like a tidal wave. The leaves of the spirit plants that had been shimmering with color just moments before fell in a flurry, the spiritual energy in the air was stirred into a violent and chaotic state, and even the sunlight seemed to be tinged with a sense of murderous intent.
"Destruction God's Thunder".
Zi Lingtian's voice was not loud, and even carried a calmness that was inconsistent with his age, but every word was like ice, exuding an undeniable authority.
A bolt of purplish-gold lightning shot out from his palm. It was no ordinary lightning, but a power that condensed the essence of the law of destruction. The beam of light, as thick as a child's arm, tore through the void and, with a world-destroying momentum, struck the oncoming shadow leopard with perfect accuracy.
boom--
A burst of purplish-gold light exploded through the forest, like a suddenly blooming flower of death. The shadow leopard didn't even have time to utter a scream before its entire body was engulfed by the lightning. Its jet-black fur turned to ashes inch by inch in the light, and its flesh and bones instantly disintegrated under the erosion of the laws of destruction, leaving not a single drop of blood.
When the light faded, all that remained where the Shadow Leopard had stood was a patch of scorched earth, with wisps of smoke rising and dissipating in the wind, as if such a ferocious beast had never existed.
one strike.
At the tender age of six, Zi Lingtian annihilated the adult Shadow Leopard with a single strike of Destruction Divine Lightning from the Destruction Scepter.
Tang Wutong stood behind Zi Lingtian, her large, pinkish-blue eyes wide open, her small mouth slightly agape, looking utterly incredulous. She had long known that Zi Lingtian was strong—the perilous experience in the Forbidden Land of Gods had already made her realize this—but witnessing him reduce such a ferocious soul beast to nothing with a single blow still left her mind blank for a moment.
"Lingtian...you..." she murmured, her voice trembling slightly.
Zi Lingtian withdrew the Scepter of Destruction and turned around.
Then he realized that he was incredibly close to Tang Wutong—just now, in order to protect her, he had pulled her behind him, and now she was standing in front of him, looking up at him, her pink and blue eyes clearly reflecting his figure, and he could even see the purple-gold shimmer at the tips of his hair.
The air seemed to freeze the moment their eyes met.
Then, without warning, an accident occurred.
Tang Wutong's foot had somehow slipped on a loose rock that had been loosened by the destructive lightning, causing her to twist her ankle and fall forward uncontrollably. Zi Lingtian instinctively reached out to steady her, but since the two were already standing very close, before his arm could fully extend, Tang Wutong had already crashed into his arms.
The impact caused Zi Lingtian to lose his balance, and the two of them fell backward together.
The moment he fell, Zi Lingtian instinctively raised his arm and steadily protected Tang Wutong's head, preventing her from hitting the ground—then, his lips touched something soft.
Time stood still at that moment.
Zi Lingtian's mind went blank. He could clearly feel the softness and warmth of Tang Wutong's lips, carrying a faint, childlike milky scent, like holding a melted candy. His eyes widened suddenly, meeting Tang Wutong's equally wide, pinkish-blue eyes, filled with shock, panic, shyness, and an indescribable, heart-pounding emotion.
Tang Wutong's mind went completely blank for a moment.
Her first kiss.
Her first kiss was gone just like that.
It was taken away by Zi Lingtian—her best friend, the notorious little devil in the divine realm, the son of the God of Destruction and the Goddess of Life, that annoying guy with a perpetually stern face and medium-length purple hair.
And in such a disheveled state—fallen to the ground, pinned down by him in a patch of spiritual herbs, her long, light blue hair scattered all over the ground, with even a few bits of grass stuck to her cheeks.
Their lips remained pressed together for a full three seconds.
Three seconds later, Tang Wutong suddenly pushed Zi Lingtian away, and jumped up like a startled rabbit. She staggered back several steps, covered her mouth with both hands, and her big pink-blue eyes quickly filled with tears. The blush on her face spread from her ears all the way to her neck, so red that it looked like it was about to bleed.
"You—you—you—" she pointed at him, her voice trembling uncontrollably, on the verge of tears, "Ling Tian, you bastard!"
Zi Lingtian sat up from the grass, expressionlessly brushing the grass clippings off his body. His expression was remarkably calm—no panic, no embarrassment, and even a hint of helplessness, as if nothing had just happened.
"You turned it upside down first," he stated calmly, though a faint blush crept up his ears.
"Then—then why don't you dodge!" Tang Wutong's voice was high-pitched and thin, completely lacking the domineering nature of a little witch, leaving only helplessness.
"It's too late," he said succinctly.
"you--!"
Tang Wutong stomped her feet in anger, but swallowed her words back. Thinking about it carefully, it seemed that she had indeed lost her balance first, and Zi Lingtian had only instinctively reached out to help her, resulting in them both falling down, and then... kissing.
Who can blame this?
Is it the fault of that blind stone?
Tang Wutong's face burned even hotter. She turned around abruptly, her back to Zi Lingtian, and covered her burning cheeks with both hands. Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of her throat, and even her ears turned bright red.
Zi Lingtian watched her tense back, his lips twitching almost imperceptibly, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end he just silently lowered his eyes, his fingertips unconsciously tracing the spot where he had just touched her, where a trace of soft warmth still lingered.
