Chapter 135: It's all because of your bites!
Chapter 135: It's all because of your bites!
As dawn broke, a bluish-gray light streamed in through the window. She groggily opened her eyes and found herself still nestled in Bai Rongbei's arms.
He was fast asleep, his arm still wrapped around her waist, his breathing even.
Su Wanwan's face flushed again as she recalled what happened last night.
She carefully moved out of his arms, and as soon as she sat up, she heard Lin Weiwei's low-pitched complaint coming from the courtyard.
"Ouch, my back... Bai Si'an, are you a dog?! You've left me covered in bite marks!"
Then came Bai Si'an's sleepy, muffled voice: "You bit it yourself too."
"I was angry because of you!"
Su Wanwan couldn't help but smile.
Looks like the couple next door weren't idle last night either.
She tiptoed out of bed, got dressed, opened the door, and went out.
In the courtyard, Lin Weiwei was supporting her lower back, grimacing as she stretched her muscles.
She was wearing a floral nightgown, her hair was messy, and there were indeed several obvious red marks on her neck.
Bai Si'an stood beside her, already dressed neatly, his military uniform buttoned up perfectly, and his glasses on, looking every bit the serious technician.
There were faint dark circles under his eyes, indicating that he hadn't slept enough.
"Weiwei, you're up so early?" Su Wanwan walked over.
Lin Weiwei's eyes lit up when she saw her, and she immediately gave a sly smile: "Wanwan! You're awake? Did you sleep well last night?"
She emphasized the words "slept well," her eyes full of sarcasm.
Su Wanwan blushed, pretending not to understand: "It's...it's alright. How about you?"
"Me?" Lin Weiwei's face fell, rubbing her lower back. "I feel like I'm falling apart! That beast Bai Si'an, last night..."
"Lin Weiwei." Bai Si'an pushed up his glasses, interrupting her, but his ears were a little red.
"What? You dare to do it but not admit it?" Lin Weiwei glared at him, then turned to Su Wanwan and accused her, "Wanwan, you don't know, last night he took me to that abandoned attic, and then... I looked at the stars there for a long time."
"Lin Weiwei!" Bai Si'an's voice rose a little; this time he was genuinely anxious.
Su Wanwan looked at the two of them and couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Lin Weiwei smiled too, moved closer to Su Wanwan, and lowered her voice: "Let's not talk about him anymore. What about you? How's Commander Bai?"
Su Wanwan's face turned even redder, and she whispered, "I... I slept soundly all night, and I'm not tired at all."
She was telling the truth.
Although I woke up once in the middle of the night, I slept soundly for the rest of the night.
Lin Weiwei looked her up and down and saw that her complexion was rosy and her eyes were clear. She really didn't look like she hadn't slept well, and she immediately felt a little unbalanced.
"Why?!" she wailed. "Looking at Commander Bai's physique and aura, it shouldn't be like this... Could it be that he...?"
Suddenly, something occurred to her, her eyes widened, and she covered her mouth: "Could it be... that his problem isn't fully cured yet?"
Su Wanwan quickly shook her head: "No! Dr. Hu said the recovery is going very well..."
"Then why are you..." Lin Wei blinked, then suddenly understood, "Oh, I see. Commander Bai is just being considerate of you, he's holding back."
Su Wanwan felt embarrassed by what she said and gently pushed her: "Don't talk nonsense."
"I'm not talking nonsense." Lin Wei smiled and took her arm. "But this is good, it's a gradual process. Look at me, I've spoiled Bai Si'an too much, and now my back is almost broken."
Bai Si'an, who was nearby, heard this and coughed, "I'm going to the cafeteria to get breakfast."
After saying that, he turned and left, walking quickly and hurriedly, as if he were fleeing in panic.
Lin Weiwei watched his retreating figure and smiled smugly: "See, he's embarrassed now."
Su Wanwan smiled and pulled her to wash up.
The two squeezed together by the water vat and washed their faces in an enamel basin.
The water was drawn last night and left to sit in the yard overnight. It was just the right temperature this morning, neither too cold nor too hot.
While splashing water on her face, Lin Weiwei said, "By the way, Wanwan, are the performing arts troupe and the propaganda department both off tomorrow?"
Su Wanwan thought for a moment and said, "Yes, Sunday is a day off."
"Let's go to town!" Lin Weiwei exclaimed excitedly. "I've been here for so long and haven't been to town yet! I heard there's a supply and marketing cooperative there, they have everything, and a movie theater that sometimes shows movies!"
Su Wanwan was also somewhat tempted.
After transmigrating, she was either in the military camp or performing in the countryside, and she really didn't get to explore properly.
"Okay," she nodded. "I'll have Bai Rongbei apply for a vehicle then."
Su Wanwan understood what she meant and nodded: "Okay."
As the two were talking, Bai Rongbei and Bai Si'an returned together, carrying breakfast they had brought back from the cafeteria.
Breakfast was simple: millet porridge, multigrain steamed buns, and a small dish of pickled vegetables.
The four of them sat around a small table in the courtyard, eating breakfast in the morning light.
Lin Weiwei was still rubbing her lower back, taking a bite of her steamed bun and sighing.
Bai Si'an picked up a piece of pickled vegetable for her and said in a low voice, "I'll massage it for you tonight."
"You don't need to tell me." Lin Weiwei rolled her eyes at him, but still ate the piece of pickled vegetable.
Bai Rongbei quietly drank his porridge, occasionally picking up some pickled vegetables for Su Wanwan.
Su Wanwan kept her head down, eating in small bites, not daring to look at him.
The events of last night were still lingering in her mind. Now, whenever she saw Bai Rongbei, she couldn't help but recall his silhouette sitting in the moonlight and the sound of his suppressed breathing.
The meal was finished in a subtly awkward atmosphere.
Bai Rongbei and Bai Si'an cleared away the dishes, while Lin Weiwei pulled Su Wanwan inside to change her clothes.
"Wanwan," Lin Weiwei said while changing her clothes, "I heard from the propaganda department yesterday that a new batch of Shanghai face cream and soap has arrived in the city! Let's go check it out tomorrow, and if the price is right, we'll buy some."
"Okay," Su Wanwan replied, feeling a little expectant.
Before she transmigrated, although she wasn't a particularly meticulous person, she still used basic skincare products.
After time travel, they used the most primitive clam oil, which was fine in winter but a bit greasy in summer.
"And some fabric," Lin Weiwei continued. "I think the old fabric Director Zhao gave us is okay for making sanitary napkins, but it's terrible for making clothes. Let's go see if we can find any nice fabric, grab a few yards, and make a new dress."
The two talked as they changed their clothes.
Lin Weiwei wore a light blue polyester shirt with black pants, and her hair was tied into two braids, making her look refreshing and neat.
Su Wanwan wore a floral short-sleeved shirt and a military green skirt. Her hair was also braided, making her look gentle and elegant.
Stepping out of the house, Bai Rongbei and Bai Si'an were already waiting in the courtyard.
Bai Rongbei glanced at Su Wanwan, his gaze lingering on her face for a moment, then nodded: "Let's go."
The four of them went out together and parted ways at the fork in the road.
Bai Rongbei and Bai Si'an headed towards the battalion headquarters, while Su Wanwan and Lin Weiwei headed towards the cultural troupe and the propaganda department, respectively.
Before parting, Lin Weiwei winked at Su Wanwan: "It's a promise, tomorrow!"
