Chapter 56 Professor Mavis's Magic
Chapter 56 Professor Mavis's Magic
In Konoha, Mavis was tidying up her residence and packing her luggage, preparing to leave Konoha.
In fact, there wasn't much to tidy up in the house; it was originally just a temporary dwelling, and she and Jelf only added some necessities later.
Looking at the now tidy and empty house, Mavis felt a mix of emotions.
The first thing she saw when she opened her eyes in this world was Zeref and Sasuke cleaning the house.
Now, not only Zeref, but even Sasuke has left Konoha.
Mavis wondered to herself, "The first ninja Zeref encountered was Sasuke. Perhaps there really is a connection of fate."
"Dong dong dong..."
A sudden knock on the door interrupted Mavis's reverie. She turned around and opened the door, where Naruto and Kurama stood.
Several days have passed since Naruto failed to bring Sasuke back, and Shikamaru, Neji, Choji, and others were injured.
Naruto, who had just been discharged from the hospital, heard from Kakashi-sensei that Mavis was about to leave Konoha.
Naruto, who had just experienced Sasuke's defection from Konoha, couldn't understand why everyone was leaving. So, upon hearing the news, he immediately came to find Mavis.
"Mavis, Kakashi-sensei said you're leaving Konoha. Why? Is it because you're from another world? I can go to Tsunade and ask her to let you stay in Konoha..." Naruto said impatiently as the door opened.
Over time, Naruto has genuinely come to regard Mavis as his friend and comrade.
Seeing Naruto's anxious expression, Mavis interrupted with a smile, "No, Naruto, it was my own choice to leave Konoha. In fact, the Fifth Hokage, Tsunade, even tried to persuade me to stay, but I refused."
Naruto's mouth dropped open, his expression full of confusion: "Then why did you leave, Mavis?"
His expression darkened, and his voice lowered: "Sasuke too... He said he chose to go find Orochimaru on his own initiative..."
Mavis's expression softened as she looked at Naruto, who had his head bowed and appeared dejected.
She reached out and took the Nine-Tails from Naruto's head, then used her other hand to rub Naruto's head, a sense of responsibility as an elder welling up within her.
"As long as friends trust each other and care about each other, it doesn't matter if we're not always together. And if I have time, I'll come back to see you all," Mavis said with a smile.
Naruto's expression relaxed at first upon hearing this, but then he suddenly became even more dejected: "But Sasuke said he wants to sever the bond between us so he can become stronger. The Perverted Sage also told me to give up on bringing Sasuke back to Konoha..."
Mavis listened quietly, then asked, "So, have you agreed to give up bringing Sasuke back?"
"Of course not!" Naruto said emotionally. "Sasuke is my comrade, and no matter how hard it takes, I will definitely bring Sasuke back to Konoha!"
"What if Sasuke doesn't want to? Even comrades have the right to choose a different path, don't they?" Mavis pressed.
Naruto was silent for a moment, then raised his head and said firmly, "I won't give up either! Although I'm not smart enough, I understand Sasuke's desire and pain for revenge. I'm willing to help him, and even go with him to avenge his brother, but..."
Naruto's voice grew increasingly resolute: "I cannot accept that he would sever his ties with me and with Konoha for the sake of revenge, so I will definitely bring him back to Konoha!"
"Even if it's tough, even if Sasuke might never turn back?" Mavis continued to press.
Naruto's eyes were incredibly firm at that moment, and as he answered Mavis's question, he also made his determination clear.
He looked directly into Mavis's eyes and said without wavering, "Because Sasuke is my comrade, no..."
Naruto paused, recalling Sasuke's words, "You are my best friend."
Naruto's voice gradually lowered, but his tone became more and more determined: "Sasuke is not only my comrade, he is like my brother, and I will never give up on bringing him back to Konoha!"
Seeing Naruto's unwavering resolve, Mavis's thoughts turned to Precito, who ultimately succumbed to darkness.
If she had had the chance, she would have done everything in her power to bring Precito back.
“Zeref is also in Orochimaru’s Otogakure now,” Mavis suddenly said.
Naruto paused for a moment, then said hesitantly, "Um... I think so. That's what Tsunade and Kakashi-sensei said too."
"That means Sasuke will also be able to see Zeref," Mavis continued.
"That should be right, so what's wrong now?" Naruto asked, somewhat confused.
The Nine-Tails in Mavis's arms rolled its eyes and yelled at Naruto, "Idiot! Mavis means that Sasuke might not only learn ninjutsu from Orochimaru, but also magic from Zeref!"
“In fact, Zeref had already begun teaching Sasuke magic when he was still in Konoha,” Mavis added.
Naruto was stunned for a moment, then his expression changed drastically, and a scream even carried outside the house: "No way! Aaaaaaah—"
Naruto crouched down, his hands covering his head, suddenly becoming very dejected. He muttered to himself, "What am I going to do? What am I going to do? Sasuke was already stronger than me, and now he's learned magic. When will I ever be able to bring him back to Konoha...?"
Kurama (the Nine-Tails) looked down on Naruto's attitude of boosting the Uchiha's morale and destroying the Nine-Tails' Jinchuriki's prestige.
With the Nine-Tails around, how could we possibly lose to that Uchiha kid?
It tugged at Mavis's arm, and after seeing Mavis lower her head, it still asked, "Will that Zeref continue to teach Sasuke magic? He and that kid don't seem to have a very close relationship, do they?"
Mavis, holding Kurama in one arm and resting her chin on her other hand, pondered, "Zelf, although he doesn't seem like it, actually enjoys watching the excitement. He might actually continue teaching Sasuke magic... Besides, Zeref is a very competent teacher, both knowledgeable and meticulous..."
Hearing this, Nine-Tails couldn't help but retort, "Why do you talk as if he taught you magic?"
Mavis blinked and said, "Huh? Didn't I say that my three great fairy magic spells were originally learned from Zeref?"
Kurama and Naruto, who was squatting on the ground, looked over at the same time and exclaimed in surprise.
"Eh!!!"
Mavis handed the Nine-Tails back to Naruto, and, unable to resist covering her ears with her hands, moved slightly away from the man and the fox who were emitting piercing screams.
Once Naruto and Kurama had calmed down, Mavis steered the conversation back on track and asked Naruto seriously, "Naruto, do you want to learn magic?"
Naruto, who was just stunned by the news that Zeref was actually Mavis's teacher, was taken aback and his eyes widened slightly.
He thought of Sasuke's resolute figure as he walked away, his eyes hardened, and he said without hesitation, "Yes!"
……
On the training field, Mavis clasped her hands together in front of her chest, and golden light shone from her hands, just like the light Orochimaru shone on the day he attacked Konoha.
"Fairy Law is one of Fairy Tail's three great spells. It only attacks targets that the caster perceives as enemies. It is a spell with both immense power and great danger," Mavis explained to Naruto.
Naruto's eyes lit up: "Wow, that's amazing! No wonder when you used that magic, Mavis, everyone in Konoha was safe and sound, while all the enemies were defeated."
The light in his hand dissipated, and Mavis said solemnly, "Naruto, this magic is very difficult to learn. It requires a long period of study and gradual mastery before you can cast it. I want you to promise me that no matter what happens before this magic is fully completed, you must never use it. Otherwise, not only you, but even your companions will be in danger!"
Mavis's expression was more serious than ever before, and Naruto's expression gradually calmed down as well. He promised, "I promise you, Mavis! I will never let my comrades be in danger."
Having received Naruto's promise, Mavis's expression relaxed slightly.
She glanced at the Nine-Tails lazily perched on Naruto's head, a glint of light flashing in her eyes, and said with a smile, "Naruto, perhaps you are the most suitable person to learn the Fairy Law magic."
"Huh? Why, Mavis?" Naruto tilted his head, puzzled, then his eyes lit up and his smile widened: "Could it be that I really am a rare genius? Hahahahahaha!"
Seeing Naruto standing with his hands on his hips, grinning smugly, Mavis broke out in a cold sweat, hesitating to speak.
She finally covered her forehead and shattered Naruto's fantasy: "It's because Kurama is there!"
Suddenly hearing her own name, Kurama cast a questioning look at Mavis.
Mavis continued, “Fairy Law has another drawback: the more enemies you fight, the more your own life is reduced. But Kurama’s power is very special. If it is willing to help you, Naruto, perhaps you can borrow Kurama’s power to cast Fairy Law. Kurama’s power is so strong, the power of Fairy Law must be amazing.”
The Nine-Tails, suddenly realizing what was happening, glanced smugly at Naruto, raised its chin, and chuckled, "Did you hear that, brat? Remember to fawn over me, hehehe..."
Seeing the little fox's smug and adorable expression, Mavis couldn't help but smile. Then, she said seriously to Naruto, "So, there's one more thing, Naruto, you can't teach this magic to anyone else!"
Naruto nodded and said, "I know, Mavis, this was originally your magic."
Mavis explained, "It's not just because I'm worried that this magic might be misused by malicious people, but also because learning this magic itself carries enormous risks. I brought about my misfortune because I activated the Fairy Law before the magic was even complete..."
Thinking about what had happened to her, Mebius was still a little uneasy.
She reached out and pressed her hand on Naruto's hand. A Fairy Tail badge flashed across Naruto's hand and then disappeared.
Naruto curiously rubbed the back of his hand. The pattern he had just seen seemed like an illusion, and no matter how much he rubbed the back of his hand, it didn't reappear.
After giving Naruto the restriction that he could not use the Fairy Law until it was fully completed, Mavis was completely relieved. She told Naruto to practice slowly and then turned and left.
……
The familiar dessert shop, the familiar strawberry cake.
Mavis watched Sakura, who seemed to have grown up overnight after Sasuke left, and sighed inwardly.
"Sakura, I'm planning to leave Konoha in the next couple of days, and I came here specifically to say goodbye to you," Mavis said first.
"Ah, Master Tsunade told me, Mavis, are you really going to leave Konoha? It's still very dangerous outside Konoha," Sakura said with some worry.
Mavis laughed and said, "It's alright. Don't let my appearance fool you. I'm a Fairy Tail mage, and I'm never afraid of adventure!"
Sakura, seeing the resolute look in Mavis's eyes, understood Mavis's decision.
"Sakura, do you remember what I told you that day?" Mavis suddenly said, looking at Sakura.
Sakura was taken aback, and instantly remembered what Mavis had said that day. Her expression gradually became complicated.
She took a deep breath, her gaze meeting Mavis's without flinching, and said firmly, "You're right, Mavis! I shouldn't rely solely on Naruto, and that's why I'm determined to become Tsunade's apprentice! Tsunade's medical ninjutsu and superhuman strength are renowned throughout the ninja world! I don't have a bloodline limit or family secret techniques like Sasuke or Ino, but I don't want to just watch anymore..."
Looking at Sakura, who was still a little uneasy but whose expression was becoming increasingly determined, Mavis blinked, and an idea gradually became clear in her mind.
……
At the entrance of Konoha Village, Mavis, carrying her luggage, bid farewell to Kakashi, Naruto, and Sakura.
"I'll come back to see you when I have the chance. Goodbye~" Mavis waved and said.
"Mavis, please be careful on the road! Waaaaah, come back to see me and Kurama as soon as possible, waaaah..." Naruto, with tears welling up in his eyes, was about to wipe his tears with Kurama in his arms.
The Nine-Tails stretched out its sharp claws, but it held back. If it weren't for Mavis's sake, it would have definitely scratched Naruto's face until it was bruised and battered!
Watching Mavis walk further and further away, Naruto sighed dejectedly, then looked at Sakura's arm beside him and asked curiously, "Sakura, I saw this pattern on your arm this morning, what's that all about?"
Kakashi, with his hands in his pockets, seemed nonchalant, but his gaze was actually focused on Sakura's right arm, where there was a distinctive red pattern.
