Chapter 544 - 536: Playing Dumb
Sister Ling’s eyes were wide open, tears still streaming down, "Aunt, I know you’re heartbroken, Brother Zong is so young and has been taken away like this. If you need to cry, just cry, but please don’t let it harm your health."
Lin Youning gently patted her head, "When I was young, I was kidnapped, and my mother was heartbroken all the time. In the end, she fell ill and passed away. Even though I’ve found my family now, I don’t have my mother anymore. So now that the same thing has happened, I will stay strong. No matter where Brother Zong is, I will find him and let him know he still has a mother."
Lin Youning’s tears couldn’t help but fall. Since being reborn, she’s always wanted to make up for Brother Zong, but now she hasn’t done anything and has lost Brother Zong. She feels like she’s not a good mother.
Now she finally understands why her mother was always so melancholy and eventually left.
Although after listening to Sister Ling’s words, she kept convincing herself to stay calm and strong, she felt thinking about these things was useless.
She even wanted to rush out at this moment to find Brother Zong herself.
But she couldn’t.
For the sake of her health, and for Sister Ling.
Sister Ling rushed to find her, completely unaware of how the eldest sister-in-law and others might deal with her. She couldn’t let Sister Ling continue to feel guilty; Sister Ling was still so young and inexperienced. If this matter traumatized her, it might leave a shadow on her heart forever.
Now that she’s a mother, Lin Youning understands this point even more, "Sister Ling, listen to Aunt. Wipe your tears, no matter what others ask you later, don’t say anything about Brother Zong being lost, okay?"
Sister Ling was stunned, "Why?"
"Everyone is worried about me, but I can’t let them worry. Since everyone wants to hide it from me, then I’ll pretend I don’t know, okay? Can you help Aunt keep this secret?" Lin Youning used a handkerchief to wipe the corners of her eyes and held back her tears, "Everyone’s already feeling bad, and if they worry about me, I won’t feel at ease."
Sister Ling hadn’t figured it out yet but knew Aunt was right, so she nodded vigorously, "Don’t worry, Aunt. I understand. If my mother asks later, I’ll just say I felt upset and came to find Aunt."
Lin Youning nodded but really couldn’t smile, "That’s good. Aunt is a bit tired now, so you should go back and don’t let your mother and them worry."
Sister Ling obediently nodded, got up, reluctantly and worriedly walked away.
Outside, only Hailan was serving. Shanmoi had been sent by Hailan earlier to find the Marquis; now seeing the cousin coming out, Hailan was both angry and resentful inside, but she was a servant and couldn’t say much, she simply bowed and turned to go back inside.
Feeling snubbed, Sister Ling understood she made a mistake, and at such a time, she couldn’t nitpick, so she walked out quite worried.
At the courtyard door, she ran into the hurried Gu Yifeng and Zhao Housheng. Zhao Housheng’s eyes were about to pop out, "Sister Ling, what did you do?"
Sister Ling shrank her neck in fright, "Father, I didn’t say anything to Aunt."
But seeing her just after a few years of experience, Zhao Housheng could immediately tell she had revealed everything, and Gu Yifeng furrowed his brows, not pausing for a moment, striding inside.
Zhao Housheng raised his hand angrily, "You... you fool."
Shanmoi, who watched Sister Ling grow up, couldn’t help but console, "Sister Ling was just worried about her; Sir, let it go."
Zhao Housheng couldn’t bear to hit his daughter, but thinking about what she did made him furious, "Go back to your mother, and when we return to the mansion, you’re not allowed to go anywhere."
Sister Ling dared not feel aggrieved, ran away with reddened eyes.
Zhao Housheng was too lazy to care about his daughter and walked swiftly to the courtyard; Gu Yifeng had already entered the house, and Hailan had just come out.
Zhao Housheng quickly asked, "How is your cousin?"
Hailan shook her head, "When the servant went in, the lady was okay, she seemed unaware of that matter."
Being outside, Hailan couldn’t break and say it.
Zhao Housheng furrowed his brows deeply, he had just seen his daughter’s expression, it was obvious she had told everything, but Sister Ning looked like she didn’t know, and this situation only made it more worrying.
"Since the Marquis is inside, let’s not go in yet," Zhao Housheng pondered for a moment before speaking, "I’ll go to the front courtyard, notify me immediately if anything happens."
Having encountered such an issue, Zhao Housheng and the others couldn’t go back, nor rest easy about leaving. Grandmother had fainted on the other side, so finally, they simply stayed at the mansion.
Hailan understood, "I know in my heart, don’t worry, sir."
Zhao Housheng then walked away.
Shanmoi bit her lip, "Although Sister Ling was wrong in doing this, we couldn’t stop her; I thought it over, whoever tells the lady about this can’t put it into words, so it’s better to let Sister Ling say it. The lady has always been fond of Sister Ling and is afraid to scare her, so having Sister Ling tell her might keep the emotions in check."
Hailan looked displeased, "You’ve only just realized? I think Sister Ling was too impulsive; the lady just gave birth the second day, and she told her this. If the lady thinks it clearly, it’s fine, but if not? The lady gave birth just like that, and the child gets stolen, even if she loves Sister Ling, she can’t get over it, and in the end, it’s not the lady who suffers? Every day Sister Ling was capricious, I wouldn’t say anything, but today she was too impulsive."
Shanmoi lowered her head, "Sister Hailan, I’m not speaking in favor of Sister Ling."
"I understand your thoughts, I’m not blaming you, just angry at Sister Ling for what she did. When I went in before, the lady was too calm, and that makes it worrisome; who could be so calm knowing their child was lost?" Hailan worried greatly.
Upon hearing this, Shanmoi’s face too showed anxiety.
Inside the room, Lin Youning lay on the bed, her expression calm while looking at the person sitting beside, "Big brother, why are you here? Today I’ve noticed you seem preoccupied; earlier when people from the mansion came, they didn’t inquire, and Sister Ling? She hasn’t returned to the mansion? How is she still here? Are you hiding something from me?"
Gu Yifeng didn’t speak but couldn’t help feeling pained. Sister Ning knew all, yet pretended to be oblivious here; how much agony must she have in her heart?
