Chapter 206: Alert! Danger!
Chapter 206: Alert! Danger!
The team was assembled and Carl was going to go on his first raid, they were low on bullets so they had to be careful how they used it.
Jason knew that Carl would be a good addition and with him as eager as he was, he had the potential to strengthen his hold on the community.
Jason was glad that things were going the way they were going and he realized that this was the benefit of everyone involved.
Glenn was a bit anxious considering what happened the last time out even though he wasn’t part of the raid due to his injury but the account of what went down terrified him.
Clementine’s absence would be felt, they had to be at the top of their game.
Dimitris was in the car, waiting for them, it was a black SUV and the people that chose to come were Jason, Glenn, Carl, and one other person.
Jason hadn’t disclosed how to camouflage from the zombies yet and he didn’t know if it was a good idea to let that information out even though it would help them.
He couldn’t just tell them or Dimitris would question why he didn’t tell them for so long but he had an idea.
They had to use this method to increase their chances of success, it was the only way to survive,
Their numbers allowed this strategy to be possible and the truck was off.
Rachel wasn’t there to tell him goodbye as she was busy with her job but she was aware that he would be leaving due to Jason taking a detour to tell her.
He couldn’t act on his own anymore as he was now accountable to her due to their relationship.
The silence in the car was loud, Carl could tell that they were about to undergo some really serious shit.
He looked scared but excited at the same time, this was a new adventure and his heart was pumping like crazy.
"Are you okay?" Jason asked and Carl nodded with a smile, he couldn’t believe that this was happening.
This was going to make him a man but only if Carl knew the kind of monster lurked, the only emotion in his heart would be fear.
The car was off and Jason watched the other man there with a suspicious look.
The person that was there was one of Allison’s men and he knew this individual was there to keep an eye on them.
Allison was subtle and she had gained power she shouldn’t have but was it a lucky accident?
The car travelled on the road for quite some time and Dimitris oozed a different kind of energy.
Unlike Franklin, Jason knew he could trust this man to keep them safe even though his judgment hadn’t been right on the money for quite some time.
He, however, had to take this gamble and he hoped that they would run into an evolved so he could consume the fragment it contained.
It has been a while since he encountered any evolved zombie, it was like they suddenly disappeared but maybe this was because they were no longer drawn to him thanks to Chronos absorbing the fragments that leaked from his body.
Dimitris slowed the car down and everyone wondered why before he took a sudden right, jerking everyone in that direction.
"W-What the hell?" Carl muttered but he managed to catch a glimpse of the road that Dimitris had just abandoned, it was crawling with infected.
Dimitris knew that they had to avoid as much scuffle with the undead as possible because they didn’t have the ammunition to take on a horde.
"Dimitris, is it...?" Glenn asked, speaking in code and Dimitris nodded to affirm whatever it was that Glenn asked.
"What is?" Jason asked but both men kept quiet which was strange considering that they were supposed to be transparent with each other to best draw up their strategy.
[[Alert!]]
[[Entering Dangerous Area!]]
[[Threat Level: High!]]
"Well, it has been a while since I have seen that," Jason thought to himself but he wasn’t scared because he knew that he could fuck it up.
He had Nexus, there was no zombie ’alive’ that could compete with Nexus.
"Stop," Jason commanded and Dimitris actually listened to him, he knew that Jason was a capable person considering that he managed to complete two almost impossible tasks.
This was a testament to his skills and Dimitris would be damned if he didn’t listen.
"Do you see something?" Dimitris asked but Jason shook his head.
"I feel it, if we keep going down this world something tells me we won’t leave unscathed," Jason warned.
This was weird, there was nothing ahead and the man with them squinted his eyes in suspicion, there was no way that Jason could know if there was anything here.
"A gut feeling?" Dimitris asked.
"Yes sir, it is a gut feeling," Jason confirmed this.
Dimitris didn’t attempt to start the car and simply placed a finger above his lips to make sure that silence reigned supreme.
He opened the door quietly and stepped out, Jason was confused about what he was doing because if it was as he said then this would mean that Dimitris was putting himself in unnecessary danger.
There was no zombie with a fragment nearby however so they should be fine.
Dimitris should be able to handle any zombie that lurked but come to think of it, this was the first time that Jason was getting such an alert.
Chronos only informed him of the dangers the zombies posed and not the environmental factors.
He thought that Chronos was losing power but he just realized that the way Chronos was keeping the zombies from finding it was by absorbing the energy the fragment leaked.
But if it was absorbing the fragment, didn’t that mean that Chronos had been getting stronger for the past six months?
Jason couldn’t believe he was just noticing this but before he could comprehend what was happening, the radar on his map began to beep aggressive.
Not just one but four fragments were in range and they were heading right at them.
"Where are we?" Jason asked, sounding nervous and Glenn wondered what this had to do with anything.
"Um... I’m not sure but we are headed to the hospital in the east, we haven’t raided there yet because we couldn’t get the door open and we should be arriving there in let’s say... Five minutes," Glenn said but Jason screamed at Dimitris.
"GET IN DIMITRIS! WE NEED TO LEAVE!" Jason panicked, he lost his cool because he knew if whatever was headed their way found them, they would be killed on sight because it was safe to assume that these zombies had been with their fragments for months.
There was no telling just how evolved they were and Jason wasn’t interested in finding out.
