Chapter 1461 - 208 - The Merchant (1)
After making all the necessary preparations to travel through the harsh lands of the Demon Continent, I was finally ready to head out and see more of the world that existed beyond the areas I had already explored.
To be honest, I hadn’t actually traveled through that much of the Demon Continent yet. While it felt like I had already experienced quite a bit of it, every time I thought about the sheer size of the continent, I couldn’t help but feel like I had barely scratched the surface. There was simply too much out there. Too many places I hadn’t seen, too many things I didn’t know about, and too many mysteries that still remained hidden from me.
"Good luck, Master. I hope you make a safe return," Mammon said as she looked at me before lowering her head respectfully.
"Master, I’ll be waiting for you to come back," Amon said as well.
I nodded to both of them.
"Yeah. I’ll be back."
With that, I turned around and began my journey into the dead lands of the Demon Continent.
My appearance was quite different compared to before.
I was wearing protective clothing over my head to shield myself from the harsh heat of the environment. To be fair, I could probably survive perfectly fine without it. My body was strong enough that the temperature wasn’t really a threat to me anymore.
Still, there was another reason for wearing it.
If I walked around the Demon Continent without any form of protection from the environment, people would probably find that suspicious. Wearing proper travel gear made me look more like an ordinary traveler instead of someone who stood out immediately.
At least, that was my reasoning.
Honestly, anyone wandering around these lands without even basic protection would probably attract attention for all the wrong reasons.
As I continued moving forward, my objective remained clear.
I planned to search every nook and cranny of the Demon Continent.
The main reason was Elise.
I wanted to know where she had gone.
Lately, I had become increasingly worried about her.
It was possible that the phone I had given her had been destroyed somehow. Maybe it had been damaged during a battle, lost somewhere, or simply broken for reasons I didn’t know.
Even so, knowing those possibilities didn’t make me feel any less concerned.
I needed to know where she was.
More importantly, I needed to know whether she was safe.
That was why I was currently using what I jokingly referred to as my Lilith radar.
Honestly, calling it a Lilith radar sounded ridiculous.
It was probably one of the dumbest names I could have come up with.
Still, it technically made sense.
Both Elise and I had connections to Lilith. Because of that connection, I could vaguely sense her presence from time to time. The sensation wasn’t particularly accurate, and it certainly wasn’t powerful enough to pinpoint her exact location, but it was still useful enough to help guide me in the right direction.
Even a small clue was better than having nothing at all.
As I continued traveling, I encountered various demonic creatures along the way.
There were Demon Tigers and several other dangerous monsters roaming throughout the wastelands.
Most of them were powerful creatures by normal standards.
To me, however, they weren’t much of a threat.
If anything, running into them was actually convenient.
The monsters provided food whenever I needed it, and surprisingly enough, demonic creatures tasted much better than I had initially expected. The first time I had tried eating one, I had assumed it would taste horrible.
Thankfully, I had been wrong.
The meat was actually pretty decent.
As for genuinely dangerous opponents, there was really only one type of enemy I had been warned about.
Succubi.
That was the creature Mammon had specifically cautioned me against.
It wasn’t because they were overwhelmingly powerful fighters.
In fact, their danger came from an entirely different area.
Succubi possessed pheromones capable of seducing those who inhaled them. Men who fell victim to those pheromones would become incredibly horny and lose their ability to think clearly.
And if someone ended up fucking a succubus while under their influence, the succubus would slowly drain away their life force until nothing remained.
Eventually, the victim would become nothing more than a dried-out husk.
When Mammon first warned me about them, I told her they probably wouldn’t be a problem.
After all, I had already encountered Dryads before.
Those Dryads had tried to drain me dry as well, and they had completely failed.
Unfortunately, Mammon didn’t agree with my comparison.
According to her, Dryads weren’t even remotely comparable to succubi.
Succubi were far more dangerous.
Not only that, but the being responsible for creating them was supposedly the most powerful succubus in existence, someone who had once been one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
As I was thinking about all of that, I suddenly noticed movement in the distance.
A carriage.
It was rushing toward me at high speed.
More importantly, it looked like it was desperately trying to escape from something.
I shifted my gaze toward whatever was chasing it.
Even from a considerable distance away, my eyesight allowed me to identify the creature.
"A Demonic Cobra, huh?" I muttered. "Looks like some merchant tried to travel through this area and ended up attracting the attention of a powerful demonic beast."
I watched the situation for a moment.
Should I help them?
The person inside was probably a merchant.
And merchants usually knew a lot about local regions, routes, settlements, and information that could be useful to travelers.
Saving them might end up benefiting me later.
After thinking it over for a few seconds, I made my decision.
I summoned Ayuru into my hand.
The familiar weapon materialized instantly.
"Ayuru, do you think you can fly over there and kill that monster for me?"
"Of course," she replied confidently.
Without wasting any more time, I threw her.
Ayuru shot through the air at incredible speed.
She crossed the distance between us and the Demonic Cobra almost instantly before striking it directly in the head.
The attack was clean.
The cobra died immediately.
A moment later, Ayuru returned to me.
I caught her and smiled.
"Nice work."
I leaned forward and kissed her side, or more accurately, the blade itself, before pulling her back into my possession.
By then, the carriage had finally reached my position.
It slowed to a stop nearby.
"Thank you for saving me," a voice said. "That was a huge help."
A woman stepped out.
The moment I saw her face, my eyes widened.
She looked familiar.
Very familiar.
At almost the same time, her eyes widened as well.
Then a smile spread across her face.
"Oh my," she said. "What a huge coincidence."
It was Foriel.
