Chapter 281: We Could Have Killed Him
Chapter 281: We Could Have Killed Him
West frowned. "Aria."
She continued speaking rapidly. "I used outside contractors."
"I hid every connection."
"I routed the transport through multiple channels."
"I made sure nothing pointed back to Shadow Reapers."
Her eyes became glossy. "I don’t understand how they found it."
West watched her quietly and placed a hand on her shoulder.
The panic in her expression eased slightly as he spoke. "This isn’t your fault."
"But—"
"It’s not."
She looked down as West gave her shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
"They were watching."
Aria eyebrows furrowed while West continued.
"This wasn’t random."
"They knew exactly what they were looking for."
He looked around the room. "They’ve probably been planning this for a while."
Jax slammed a fist into the table. "So what now?"
West’s expression turned cold... It was often the same expression people saw right before something unfortunate happened to someone else.
"So... what do we do?" Aria questioned as well.
West slowly smiled and leaned back against the table. "What do we do?" He repeated.
"Iron Vultures stole from us."
"They attacked our people."
"They interfered with our business."
West’s smile widened slightly as he continued. "They seem to have forgotten something."
"When you steal from someone..." his eyes gleamed. "...you should make absolutely certain they can’t steal back."
The room suddenly felt colder as West pushed away from the table.
"Get me everything."
"Routes."
"Names."
"Warehouses."
"Supply schedules."
"Assets."
He looked directly at Aria.
"I want every single piece of information we have on Iron Vultures."
Aria nodded immediately. "I’ll have it ready within the hour."
West smiled. "Good."
He then began walking toward the exit.
Jax stared at him suspiciously. "Where are you going?"
Without turning around, West answered. "To collect interest."
The heavy doors closed behind him and for some reason, every person inside the room suddenly felt sorry for Iron Vultures.

About an hour later, West found himself walking through the heavily fortified headquarters of Iron Vultures.
Although the place didn’t have the best looks on the outside, it still have great defenses.
Massive reinforced walls wrapped around the compound with surveillance systems covering nearly every angle. Armed awakened members patrolled constantly and many of them openly displayed their gang insignia on jackets.
The atmosphere was completely different from the newer gangs that were still trying to establish themselves. It was more raw...
Iron Vultures had been around for years so they had territory and had built up quite the influence.
Most importantly, over five hundred awakened members. Their numbers were nothing compared to a gangs like Eagle’s print or Dragon Fang who had over ten thousand members...
Still, Shadow Reapers was leagues behind.
West was escorted through several checkpoints before finally arriving at the private office of Bloodstain himself.
The room was large and intimidating with a massive black desk sat near the center while the walls were decorated with trophies from successful ruin expeditions. Rare monster skulls, expensive weapons, and preserved materials from high-level creatures lined display cases.
Bloodstain sat behind the desk and the dark ink-like markings covering half his face made him look even more imposing in person than in photographs.
For a few moments, neither man spoke.
After scrutinising West, Bloodstain gestured casually toward a chair. "Have a seat."
Bloodstain leaned back as West sat.
"I’ve been curious about you."
West smiled faintly. "And I’ve been curious about you."
The gang leader chuckled and for a brief moment, it almost looked like two businessmen meeting to discuss a contract.
Then West finally got to the point. "A truck belonging to Shadow Reapers was ambushed earlier today."
Bloodstain didn’t even blink. "Was it?"
"It was carrying several million dollars worth of merchandise."
"That’s unfortunate."
West nodded slowly. "Very unfortunate."
Bloodstain folded his hands together. "And what exactly does that have to do with me?"
West simply stared at him while Bloodstain returned the stare.
A brief silence enveloped the surroundings for a couple moments before Bloodstain laughed.
"Come on, kid. Surely you’re not walking into my base and accusing Iron Vultures of highway robbery."
West leaned back slightly. "The truck was intercepted."
"And?"
"The goods ended up here."
Bloodstain spread his hands. "Did the truck have Shadow Reapers written on it?"
"No."
"Did it have your gang logo?"
"No."
"Any official documentation connecting it to your gang?"
"No."
Bloodstain’s smile widened. "Then how exactly am I supposed to know those items belong to you?"
West couldn’t help but laugh. "Hahahahahaha!" The absurdity of it all was honestly impressive.
Bloodstain joined him. "Bwahahahaha!"
And foor a few seconds both men were laughing.
They both understood the game... of course Bloodstain wouldn’t admit to doing it.
Eventually West rose from his seat. "Well then."
Bloodstain simply just watched as West adjusted his jacket.
"Since Iron Vultures have decided to hold onto possessions that aren’t theirs, I hope they can handle the reverse."
The room suddenly became colder as several nearby awakened members stiffened.
A heavy pressure spread from Bloodstain as his eyes narrowed.
West merely glanced over his shoulder unaffecfed while Bloodstain spoke in a colder voice.
"Shadow Reapers have a lot of nerve making threats after everything my gang has suffered recently."
West raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
"The bowel incident."
West looked confused.
"The system bug."
West still looked confused.
"The supply failures."
West blinked in utter confusion as Bloodstain glared at him.
West returned the glare and smiled. "Do you have any proof Shadow Reapers was responsible for any of that?"
~ Silence ~
West nodded. "Thought so. How could a small gang likes our possibly cause any issues for a big gang like yours."
Afterwards, West slowly started walking toward the exit. "This discussion is over."
As he stepped out, the doors closed behind him.
Bloodstain sat in silence for several moments after West left.
Eventually part of the wall rippled and a figure stepped out from it.
This was none other than Bloodstain’s right-hand man.
"You let him leave."
Bloodstain nodded. "Obviously."
The man frowned. "Why?"
Bloodstain looked at him as though he had asked something stupid. "Because I enjoy being alive."
The right-hand man sighed. "He was sitting right here."
"And?"
"We could’ve killed him."
Bloodstain laughed while shooting the man a look like he had just said something ridiculous. "Are you stupid?"
The man looked offended but didn’t say a word.
Bloodstain shook his head. "Do you know why Renzhi can’t touch him?"
