Chapter 590: 590: Overbearing Malfoy, The Show Is About To Begin!
Saturday.
The first Quidditch match of the school year had begun.
Slytherin versus Ravenclaw.
The proud eagles had once displayed tremendous determination, nearly catching up to Slytherin.
If Malfoy had not caught the Golden Snitch, Ravenclaw's plan would have succeeded.
Cho Chang had graduated, and their new captain was now a Ravenclaw girl.
After graduation, Cho Chang and Cedric had rekindled their relationship. There was no telling how many bad things they had said about Malfoy.
The Great Hall.
John saw Luna, wearing an eagle hat, happily cheering for the players. The atmosphere among the Ravenclaws was tense.
In contrast, there was a kind of effortless arrogance among the Slytherins.
Malfoy flashed a malicious smile at Ravenclaw's new captain, Sophia Nelson, and threatened, "You'd better not eat too much. Otherwise, you might throw it all up later."
The poor girl was only in her fifth year and already had to endure such a scumbag's threats. She stared at her breakfast in distress, unsure whether she should continue eating.
Astoria turned her face away. Malfoy really knew how to irritate people.
The Ravenclaw boys glared furiously at him, while Luna added fuel to the fire by saying, "Jerk."
All those insults became background music for Malfoy as he enjoyed his breakfast.
When breakfast ended, Malfoy led his team toward the Quidditch pitch.
Sophia Nelson was a petite girl who looked even more delicate than most students her age, yet she was Ravenclaw's Chaser.
As Malfoy passed through the Entrance Hall, he roughly shoved the girl aside when she was in his way.
Ravenclaw's Seeker gritted his teeth and said, "I'm going to kill him. I really am going to kill him!"
"There's no one who wouldn't want to do that," another Beater said.
"Provided we win."
At that moment, Ravenclaw's desire to win was completely ignited.
Even Sophia felt a little confused. Somehow, it seemed that misfortune had turned into a blessing.
They arrived at the changing rooms.
Dressed in Slytherin team uniforms, Malfoy delivered his final pep talk.
"Get out there, take the victory, and crush those damned Ravenclaws!"
Malfoy's speech was simple and direct, but it made the little snakes, who had been hungry for victory for so long, light up with excitement.
Two months of training had built up enough resentment in them to drown Hogwarts.
After changing into their uniforms, the entire team left the changing rooms.
The Quidditch stands were packed with students. The fiery sport always got people's blood pumping.
Especially now that Malfoy was involved, everyone wanted Slytherin to lose as quickly as possible.
John was among the spectators. Sitting in the stands, he listened to the chants coming from the other three Houses.
"Take down Malfoy!"
"Show that little skunk what you're made of!"
"I put all my money on Ravenclaw!"
Once again, John found Malfoy's universally hated reputation difficult to deal with.
He sighed and said, "Draco, how am I supposed to save you?"
It wasn't hatred.
It was simply that Malfoy's arrogant personality had earned him the resentment of countless students.
Malfoy entered the pitch carrying his broomstick, and the boos almost drowned out the entire stadium.
But Malfoy did not care in the slightest. He even said to his teammates, "See that? Those are the powerless boos of the weak."
The team members were terrified.
Captain, please stop drawing aggro. Keep this up and they'll come down here and beat us up.
Even Madam Hooch could not help darkening her expression after hearing that remark. She had graduated from Ravenclaw.
Although Ravenclaw's win rate was not particularly high from a professional standpoint, she still chose to support her own House.
The main reason was that Malfoy's attack had been aimed at far too many people at once.
After the captains shook hands, the match began.
Once airborne, Malfoy leisurely drifted around the edge of the pitch.
The Seeker who had sworn to kill him kept glaring at him viciously.
As soon as the match began, Ravenclaw employed the same tactics that Cho Chang had devised the previous year.
However, the same strategy could not be used successfully against Slytherin twice.
Astoria stole the Quaffle from Ravenclaw and, with a beautiful feint, broke through and scored.
"Only three minutes into the match, and Slytherin have opened the scoring!" Ernie announced excitedly. "Amazing! A beautiful feint! Astoria steals the Quaffle again and scores another goal!"
Astoria moved through the pitch as though no one could stop her, constantly creating points for Slytherin.
Under Astoria's relentless assault, Ravenclaw found itself in constant danger.
Even when they managed to score a goal, Slytherin would quickly answer with one of their own.
Crabbe and Goyle, the two inseparable enforcers, continuously used Bludgers to create danger across the pitch.
The score quickly reached 150–30, with Ravenclaw managing only three successful goals.
Malfoy remained completely relaxed, showing no urgency whatsoever.
He wanted his teammates to build up as large a lead as possible here, so that when they faced the other Houses later, it would place even greater pressure on their opponents.
Ravenclaw's Seeker was becoming increasingly anxious.
He searched desperately, but the Golden Snitch was like a mischievous sprite. The more anxious he became, the harder it was to find.
The score reached 200–50.
A gap of 150 points had already killed the match.
What followed was a complete slaughter of Ravenclaw by Slytherin.
John noticed that even the eagle perched atop Luna's head had stopped moving.
He shook his head.
Ravenclaw was currently in a transitional period.
When Cho Chang had been there, they could still pose a genuine threat to Slytherin. But after that year graduated, the new players lacked experience and adaptability.
They clung to the strategies left behind by their predecessors, yet could not execute them with the same efficiency or teamwork.
In contrast, the Slytherin team could be considered the strongest in its history.
Not only did they possess two top-tier broomsticks, but they also carried the confidence and momentum built from a long winning streak.
The weakest team against the strongest.
The outcome was obvious.
The match ended.
Ravenclaw's eagles failed to create a miracle, losing by a crushing score of 550–100.
Slytherin claimed victory without any suspense. Their cheers stood in stark contrast to Ravenclaw's deathly silence.
The match shocked both Gryffindor and Hufflepuff into increasing their training intensity.
Rumour even had it that Gryffindor had agreed to Ginny's proposal.
That alone showed just how badly they did not want to lose to Slytherin.
Especially losing to a Slytherin team that had Malfoy on it.
"Sigh, I wasn't even trying, and they already collapsed."
In the Great Hall, Malfoy's smug attitude made the Ravenclaws grind their teeth in frustration.
But they could not find any words to refute him, especially after Malfoy had caught the Golden Snitch while their Seeker was still several lengths behind, left breathing in his wake.
Malfoy raised his pumpkin juice and shouted, "A toast to our easy victory!"
The Slytherins raised their cups.
The words easy victory were practically scraping against Ravenclaw's nerves.
John could now confirm that after today, Malfoy's position would be unshakable.
Number one on the list of the most hated students.
...
Grindelwald's wanted posters spread throughout Europe.
As the country where Grindelwald was currently believed to be hiding, Poland intensified its search efforts.
Yet no matter how hard they searched, the Polish wizards could never have imagined that the criminal they were hunting was actually their superior.
Grindelwald had just finished a speech as the Minister for Magic.
During the speech, he promised to capture Grindelwald to ensure that Poland would not repeat the disasters that had struck New York and Paris half a century earlier.
The Polish magical community did not know what had changed, but they felt that their usually stern Minister for Magic had somehow become more charismatic.
He also initiated a series of rapid responses, ordering Aurors and Hit Wizards to search hideouts throughout Poland.
The decisive actions quickly produced results.
One of Grindelwald's Acolytes was captured.
His appearance confirmed that Grindelwald was indeed still hiding somewhere within Poland.
All sides closely watched the developments, waiting for Grindelwald to be brought to justice.
During this period, the International Confederation of Wizards convened once again, and Grindelwald, disguised as the Polish Minister for Magic, attended the meeting.
He assured everyone that Grindelwald would not be able to escape the tightening net.
Even Barty Crouch Sr. was persuaded by his plans, though he found it somewhat strange. The Polish Minister for Magic had never seemed this intelligent before.
Still, he attributed it to the possibility that the Minister had simply never had a chance to demonstrate his abilities.
As for the position of Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards, everyone had their own thoughts.
They all understood how significant Grindelwald's capture would be for the upcoming election.
Some had begun paying attention to the Polish Minister for Magic. If he managed to capture Grindelwald this time, his support would increase dramatically.
Many people hinted to him both openly and subtly, hoping he would seize the opportunity.
There were also people around Barty Crouch Sr. who brought up the matter to him.
After all, Barty Crouch Sr. also possessed a considerable advantage. His country was home to two of the Wizarding World's most powerful wizards.
After the meeting ended, Grindelwald returned to Poland.
A sinister smile appeared on his face.
"The show is about to begin."
